Are you for real? Apple is not doing this to end peoples suffering* (if so, they wouldve cared more for the people that created their fortune). Only reason for Apple to care about robots vs. man is price.

* Also, Apple - the richest company in the world - has donated how much to the millions of starving children on africas horn? Zilch, zip, nada? Yeah, i bet they really care about some chinese workers. I surely do.

I never said that Apple wanted to end their suffering. To Apple the suicides are just bad p.r., another story that their p.r. department has to sweep under the run.

please cite your claim that it was Apple that decided to automate. i didnt read that in the story i read:

you do realize the suicide rate w/i Foxconn is less than the national chinese and US averages, right?

By "requested" I meant that in order for Foxconn to get Apple's future business they must cut costs i.e. robots. They lost the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 bids.

And why do Jobsians insist on comparing the Foxconn suicide rate to the rate of China and U.S. One is a factory that produces electronics and the others are countries. Confusing I know. I live down the road from a BMW factory and it's usually a news worth event if more than one employee gets fired. No suicides though.

Apple is just a computer company. I've had many bad experiences with Apple products in the 20+ years that I have used them. Hens the not so positive comments.

It maybe time to move back to the U.S.A.

Alas, I remember the sad saying about selling 1 thing there only to be cloned many times, oddly with government help so the rumor goes, and the sadder notion that you'd lose money on each item but hope to make it up on volume.

what, you never heard of a place called China ;) Intellectual Property Rights....ha ha ha ha ha....

I lived in Hong Kong and had dealings with China. In one area in CHina 90 % of the goods produced was a straight copy - the Chinese do not have a concept of intellectual property rights. So the west has brought all their know how to China to manufacture there cheaply - they even have happily all their students coming to the west to educate them in how things are being done. China will keep on thumbing their nose at the west and keep on producing goods cheaper than anyone else and the consumer will keep on buying where he can get it the cheapest. (consumer is forced to buy the cheapest since the workforce has been exported to China as well so what is the poor consumer going to do to get something?) Thank the big firm's greed for this mess.

The west has been trying to "correct" China since Victorian times. If copying is in their culture and they see no wrong in it, then the US should just f-ck off.

Good luck with that!

Well then let's just build a bunch of factories in the US and build everything here.

Unless you're willing to get paid for $3 a day for 12 hours and 6 days a week. Let's get real, Apple wouldn't have that 73 billion pocket money if they build those product here in the USA or Mr. Cook would not be awarded a 1million stock either. They're all the same they outsource the manufacturing so the profit margin is bigger.

They shouldn't be surprised at this, it's the price they pay to get "access" to that consumer and cheap labor market.

Don't want it to happen? Then bring that manufacturing back home.

That's right! Why would Chinese people buy an iPhone with the price tag higher than the USA. They have to spend all their savings just to get an original iPhone. These people are already been taken advantage by American companies from cheap labor to overpriced product they made by themselves. This is wrong more wrong than the original article.

Are you willing to get paid as much as the chinese do and work for 12 hours a day? Then welcome back to the U.S.A. Apple!

... revealed in documents from U.S. diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks last week.
Why is Macrumors republishing information from stolen diplomatic cables? Why lower yourself to the same level as these crooked wiki leaks criminals? It's disgusting. Shame on you Macrumors.

Welcome to China. WTF is the surprise here?

Korea would crack down, then copy the product themselves.

Japan is the only nation left with Honor in that region. Period. :apple:

The reason supposedly jobs left was to maximize profit margins; surely that would end once products are cloned and sold cheaper. Then quality would suffer [ask anyone in the dental fabrication business about lead contents] and eventually the business would move back.

Oddly its this longer view of things that's not American, it's typically Asian, and this is a good thing; too bad we haven't learned that lesson yet.

Well.Well, look at all the crooks liars and fools posting how Apple needs to wake up.

Problem is the Genertation today is full of lazy undeserving fools that want hands outs, not willing to fight or to work for anything.

You bunch off fools wouldn't know how to support yourselfs if the economy collapsed with out getting handouts.

All we have here is a bunch of blowhards that think they know how the real world functions but never even left the town they live in let alone leave the country of there origin.

It's funny to see how this site is full of teenybopper idiots that can't wipe there own asses or get out of there parents houses bolstering on how things should work and why everyone else is entitled to free free free everything.

Now it would be very different if you lost everything and had no home, no money, no job, and no one to turn to, but you still keep pointing to your idealist belief that only exist in your own pathetic little minds.

Look at the country involved in this story people, communist that control everything down to government telling you how many children you are allowed to have and where you can work and what type of work you are allowed to perform.

The USA is headed to that now, not because of some person, but because people are lazy and unwilling to fight for the freedoms that so many millions have died for.

Wake up, and learn to live off the land, you might think it sounds funny but in a short time everyone will be thrust in a world they will have no clue on how to survive in. It's coming sooner then you think.

Why blame a single company for protecting their rights, wouldn't you do the same to protect something you worked long and hard for, or would you just give up like cowards and walk away like all these Haters say should happen.

In any case you see some very good posts with logical information and breakdown and then you need to weed through all the regular haters that have a better way of tucking tale and running.

What side are you, a fighter or a coward....

Seems we have a mix of both.

It is disgusting to read your post... You fall into the worse than coward category... no doubt... and learn English...

Information on macrumors are quite good... but a lot of people need to stop posting dumb BS....

The damn cops are probably running the counterfeit stores or taking bribes from store owners. The people that write the laws are buying the counterfeit goods.
Plus Apple is paying these people slave wages and forcing crazy overtime. Ask yourself. Do you want to work in China doing what these people do? I don't blame them for ripping off Apple. If you treat people like crap do you expect Chinese law to give a crap? I bet the Chinese government is laughing at Apple.

Maybe to much of the profit goes into the PA and reverse engineering from all the designs they steal at a break neck pace... { counterfeiting in general I mean.

That's the point. I can see the next war supported by US: the Intelectual Property war (of course, CNN will show that China is producing mass destruction weapons and the usual bsht they use to justify wars).

China is doing what USA always dreamed China did someday: it's being neoliberal, capitalist, free market oriented. I don't love China's social and economic model, I prefer the sustainable growth like in Brazil, Argentina, Chile and so on, but I respect their practices. Maybe there wouldn't be a better economic/social model for a billion people country.

China already is producing weapons of mass destruction, that isn't news at all. They have been making them since they tested their first nuclear weapon in 1964.

They probably got those plans from the Russians and counterfeited them though.

Ok, but that's not an excuse for justifiyng wars. If so, UN should begin a war against US based on what they did with mass destruction weapons in Japan and Vietnam.

And now, not related to weapons, but in the human rights field:
http://healthland.time.com/2011/08/...s-compensation-for-research-related-injuries/

Oh, everything China does is so mild when we rescue ocidental nations' history of atrocities...

The biggest problem is the 'news media' doesn't go back and pull tapes from 10-15 years ago, where all the talking heads were saying "China will have 1 billion consumers" and they will "buy" our high-tech goods, while they make the cheap and easy stuff at good prices.

So much for the 'free-market' approach for the average American worker. Yet, they still shop at Wal-Mart to save a few pennies to keep from paying for another Americans healthcare overhead.

The designs that Apple steals?

No I mean the designs the Chinese government steal from other countries. So why would they care about Apple if they do it themselves at a governmental level.

There is also some evidence { documentary I saw } that the Peoples Army are quite involved in the counterfeit process themselves.
