not only apps but anything at the apple store hmm new iMac, macbook. iPad,IPod, may 2 or 3 or even 4. fun to dream :):):):):)

Yeah, that's right, you got it. One post and you can tell the kind of guy I am.

Apple kept nothing here - they did not give away money. This cost them nothing. It's marketing, nothing else.

They could have just let the milestone pass and kept the $10k. You seem like the type of guy who would get a new car for your 18th birthday then complain about the colour.

What? How is that even possible?

Hmm. That's an average of about 80 apps per iOS device ever sold.

Considering that surveys show that many users only ever download a handful of apps, the majority of the count must come from the app-a-holics who constantly download hundreds of them. You know who you are :)

--

Of related interest: there was a study last year that found that 1/4 of downloaded apps are only used once.

Does anybody remember a recent study about how many apps people actually end up using all the time? I recall it was pretty low.

What would you do with $10,000 on iTunes? I guess I would start renting movies and shows. But I can't imagine spending it all ever.

An HD movie is $20. One season of a TV show (HD) is $40. So $10,000 amounts to hundreds of movies and TV series, which doesn't really sound like a lot does it?

Sounds EXACTLY like my pops brother, a sort of nice guy but manages to find something wrong or missing in every thing he comes across. They play poker, drink and go duck hunting with a group and my pops is convinced somebody is gonna mistake him for a duck some day, or that will be their excuse. Not such a bad guy when he's soused, just kind of sits their and mumbles.

I have to point out that the counter on the App Store under the "New" tab claims that there are roughly 700,000 more downloads to go.

What?! How is it even a contest then?

You can't win Lotto without buying a ticket, how can it be OK to win this without downloading an app? Makes no sense.

The lotto is a game of chance you pay for.

A contest is illegal to charge for in the USA. There is always a way to enter a contest without purchasing anything.

That's why you will always see " no purchase necessary" on contest rules in the US.

I'm totally weirded out by that whole notion.

It's strange on that main graphic how many apps can be seen multiple times. You'd think they wouldn't have duplicates. LAAAAZYYYYY!
(and I care too much)

What would you do with $10,000 on iTunes? I guess I would start renting movies and shows. But I can't imagine spending it all ever.

Think of it as “free apps and media for life”... but with a cap in case of some unusual abuse. (Like, I don’t know, someone writing a macro out of spite to buy everything that gets released ever... or to rent movies 24/7 on multiple computers... or to funnel the U.S. GNP to Zynga as IAPs... any of which would lead to Apple to shelling out an unexpected amount to the content creators. Or, Apple could have just put limits on “for life” in the fine print... which the media would doubtless notice and paint in a negative light.)

P.S. I didn’t win. Did I? Lemme check my email...

Darn! Now they're gonna talk about this at the iPad 3 keynote and make us wait even longer for them to reveal it.

Read the T&C and all is revealed
