The problem I think some members on here are not contemplating, is $3000 sounds like a lot for a product that doesn’t interest you. But for those who want to see the potential how this could benefit them professionally and/or through entertainment, that’s probably not a lot of money given the potential behind this product, considering we don’t know all of its capabilities.

I think it’s key to remember, price is only relative to what you’re interested in, so even if this product was $2000, you probably still wouldn’t buy it, because it’s not something that would benefit your lifestyle or ‘Why you would need/want this.’

I kind of look at this like somebody might say ‘Why do I need a $3000 Mac Pro when I can accomplish similar tasks on a $500 Chromebook’. Not every product is geared towards every consumer, and Apple already knows this isn’t something they expect mass adoption, especially if this price point is accurate. It’s for a specific demographic.

Plus, being that this is ‘new tech’ from Apple, it’s to be expected it will come with a hefty price tag.
Here is the quip for me, at $3k, it better make the function it's supposed to cover quite well. As of right now, I fail to comprehend a market that requires a VR/AR system of this caliber; not saying it isn't there.

Price for me factors into wants and for $3k it better have a worthwhile function.

Did you bother reading the rumored specs? Dual 4K microLED, 15 cameras, chip in the M category?
Show me an equivalent headset. Spoiler: it doesn't exist.

The closest thing to Apple's upcoming headset is the Holo Lens 2 at $3500, but specs=wise and probably feature-wise, it doesn't come close to what Apple should offer.
Doesn't matter. Until specs are made public, it is all hearsay and therefor just a rumor.

Wow you really think Mark Z is wasting his time designing all the products himself? Lol
Yes. The way Meta is run, especially in segments that are viewed as strategic, combined with the cult of personality MZ has constructed and maintains around himself means that everything the public sees has indeed been Designed by Meta in Zuckerfornia.

Pricing is definitely off. It's like people forgot that Apple is expensive but Apple isn't that greedy/out of touch with reality.

In January 2010, people were saying iPad was going to be $1,000+ (it debuted at a shocking $500).

If Apple is bringing this to market, I doubt this will be more than $700.
Remember how everybody was saying the Watch would be inexpensive?

How do you have a wide FoV 6K per eye headset? I cannot think of any headset in existence outside those in labs that would achieve this.

It's 4K native per eye (Pimax 8K-X); but VR has to render more pixels than you are actually seeing at any one time. Plus, if at all possible you want to run even higher via. Steam SS or in-game SS (Super Sampling); so it's very common to render games at a much higher resolution than your HMD if you have to power to do so. Clarity continues to increase pretty dramatically all the way up about 150% Steam SS and then trails off above that but is still beneficial. This is similar to what a lot of gamers do on their flat screens to increase clarity and reduce aliasing, but in VR you have to drive a LOT more pixels plus the 3D (hence the pretty extreme requirements for good high-end VR). I've got other titles I drive at even higher resolutions than that, it's truly bizarre once you get into the scene and fully realize how much $ you have to spend if you want a top-tier experience. That said, the lower and mid equipment is also getting a lot better; it's really wide FOV that remains a top-tier only feature at this time.

Apple's HMD; I'm very interested in what the FOV is - it's looks like a potentially wide FOV design, which would be fantastic. One to the major impediments to adoption of VR is that all of the mainstream HMDs currently make it very obvious that you are wearing them due to reducing your peripheral vision so much. The price point we are seeing at this time points to a Wide FOV experience.

With all the specs that’s been shared about this product over the last year or so do you really think the price will be $700 or less. Lol, man you’ve definitely been living under a rock. I can at least see this selling for no less than $1500. 700 is definitely too cheap of a price.

I am curious what the killer app is. What is going to be why people will want it. I agree, just apple vr/ar glasses are not gonna be anything special. So what is that "special apple WOW featureTM?"

My guess is communications. IF apple has successfully found a way to capture a face while communicating online in VR/AR, they basically got real presence while telecommunicating. AND that folks, is skating where the puck will be.

Sure 3000$ for the self-contained unit, market is business and "pro"

Consumer device for 999$ maybe, 499$ if it is just the glasses/sensors and they use an iphone/mac for processing.

Agreed. I understand filtering light out but they need to make these look more like regular sun/glasses unless this is for pure gaming. If there is any element of real-life usage they want it for, this design is absolutely not it. lol.
If you read the end of the article it says they'll f/u with a second gen headset and AR "glasses" which i think is what you were looking for

I remember the people that said that about a touch screen keyboard. What kind of keyboard are you using these days? It’s ok it happens as we get old.
We have had very little choice but to accept touch screen keyboards on smartphones and tablets and while I do think that they are absolutely fine for those devices while on the go, many people tend to buy a smart folio with a traditional keyboard because it is much more efficient and less prone to typing errors. I could not imagine using a touch keyboard for my job OR to type a long document with it. Heck, as soon as I need to do something that needs to look a bit professional and I want to do it in an efficient way, I tend to move away from my table and move to my Mac. It saves me about 50% of the time.

The 1440 panels and optics are not good enough to emulate a traditional display within the VR environment and use it all day long.
I don't personally experience eye fatigue in VR, but that doesn't mean I think it's good enough for reading a lot of text.
One of the biggest causes of eye fatigue in VR is it's fixed focus. So while new displays can provide comfortable reading in the moment, unless you take frequent breaks, your eyes are going to get pretty fatigued. This is not something Apple will be able to address. Meta has been trying to figured this out for like... 7 years now? Multifocal displays will come, but Apple won't be first.

No one wants this AR/VR. It's too gimmicky. It's also too expensive.
You need to be thinking about what is done in military jets. Right now, if I am in a discussion with somebody about the price of Apple stock, I have to pull my phone out and look it up. If I was wearing a much more sophisticated AR set of glasses than the clunky version always shown, I could just ask Siri to give me the APPL quote and see it flashed on my glasses.

Because what the world needs right now are more people interrupting conversations with someone to look at devices...
