the math will only make sense if they charge the notebook 1.409…
Otherwise, is a zero sum game.

Let’s see when they ship it!!!
It's not a zero sum game.

Yesterday you would have paid £1529 for the MBA alone.

Today you paid £1529 for the MBA and a £120 gift card.

Please explain what was lost for you to get the £120 gift card to make it a zero sum game.

In your scenario you are getting a £120 discount that you have just made up as the promotion is clearly stated for a free £120 gift card that you are, by your own admission, getting for no addition cost. You clearly state the price is the same today as yesterday. Plus you'd also be getting the card too, which would be a £240 benefit.

I think there is a misinformation here..

What I meant was, they already charge the card for 120.
Leaving only 1409 to be charged on the card….
But that’s is only be known qhen they ship it… of they charge the full price 1529.. it ends up a zero sum game

This.

What people are missing is that the £120 discount that shows up in the basket is NOT the education discount. It is the gift card discount.

There is not a line in the basket that expressly shows the education discount. The education discount is reflected in the lower MBA price. But to see how much of an education discount you are getting, you need to compare the price to the regular store’s price.

It’s not a bad deal

Don’t order applecare with the order then use the gift card to help fund the applecare afterwards? Won’t fully cover it but helps

The discount's on the MBA, as per your order, so you'll be charged £120 less for this. This is a fairly standard practice across many retailers to charge for individual items separately. I've found with Apple there is often a pending charge that disappears after a day or two before the card finally gets charged at the point of shipping. It may well do this for the £120 pending charge (I can see it on my credit card too).

That savings that you see is just a gimmick, you are paying for it….

To make it easier.. the first pic is the precious order I made, 3 days ago!!!

The second one is today’s order!!!!

If they charged me for the GIFT CARD, as they did..

WHERE IS THE BLODDY DEAL???

It ia just a gimmick!!!! The only thing they managed me to do is to commit spending more than I would have and lose 3 days in delivery time.
The MBA as configured is £1649 without the Edu discount.

You first get a £100 edu discount, then they discount it £120 more and then charge you £120 for the gift card.

The day they'll offer discounts instead of "gift cards" it's the day I'll consider suggesting friends to take advantage of the offer.

Well... there's the educational discount for starters. And then a free gift card.

This thread is peak MacRumors already :D

The gift card is so versatile I don’t really understand the complaints. You can buy hardware, services, apps, media and/or AppleCare+ with it.

Back to School discount offers work in India online store too... I ordered a MacBook Pro last week (free delivery Jul 18th) as an educator using this discount offer. I also did avail the 20% off AppleCare for the MBP but I didn't take the 'free' AirPods -- clicked the No Thanks option! -- as I already have a working AirPodsPro.

my brother look

again, the final price you paid is that of edu is that right ? so you paid full edu price ,which is the price you'd pay during all the year if you were to use your education account

now ,since yesterday ,for the same discounted price ,1529,you also get a gift card .the card doesnt make the price rise to 1649 does it ? hence, for the same discounted price of 1529 you gained a card worth of 120 bucks

So I literally created this dummy account to respond to you.

Many years working for Apple Retail.

You confusion is understandable but you need to pause for a moment.

Your gift card is charged right away.
Your Mac will be charged when prepared for shipping less the 120 you already paid.

100%. No if's or buts, you will not be overcharged.

Furthermore this has always been the case for the endless years I have experience with this.
And yes, it's because if Apple literally gave a free gift card, you could end up spending that card and then returning the Mac within return period and achieving a life time goal of free money :)

With love,

Very bad experience. Not Apple like. I am so disappointed. Cause it is not possible to pay with PayPal. So the only other payment option ist Credit card, but in Germany the most people only have a EC card and no credit card. It is then not possible to buy

Just ordered a 14" MBP and got the student discount and the €150 gift card 😊

Strange that here in the Netherlands they don't check whether you qualify or not.

Pre ordered M2 air with edu discount on 8th, am I able to claim this bonus somehow?
It's worth a shot, have definitely heard of people calling Apple and getting the gift card if they can prove they're a student.

Surprised the M2 Air is eligible, usually brand new products are excluded from this kind of promotion.

Unfortunately you can't buy Applecare with the gift card. If you try to buy Applecare later with the gift card it will use your credit card instead. Americans have already tried that and it won't work. It's unfortunate as it would make the gift card far more useful. I don't understand why Apple won't allow you use them to buy Applecare but that's unfortunately their policy. It's really the only thing that thr new gift card won't work for.
