I usually don't defend Apple and Timmy's way of taking out money in every da#n way he can.

But 128GB belongs to the past - and I'm not a heavy phone user, but I need to erase and make space to live with my beloved mini that have 128GB, once in awhile. Next phone will have 500GB, but it will not be anywhere soon.

Long live the mini 🎉♥️

I have an iPhone SE 3 with 64-GB memory. In other words, Apple's cheapest iPhone offering. I almost never take photos or videos, and stick with first-party apps (the only third-party app I have is WhatsApp to keep up with the family, at their insistence). I'm currently using 29 out of 64 GB, and would have no need for 128 GB. I'm also fine with iCloud's 5 GB back up.
So Apple's basic package is enough for users like me, and I disagree with this post about the need for 256 GB. People who need this can just pay extra for it. I do understand that 64 will become unrealistic with Apple Intelligence, so there should be a bump to 128 minimum on the SE 4, but that's it.

They're not ripping anyone off. People buy their products and services, repeatedly, of their own free will.

If people think the Apple ecosystem is too expensive, just change to the Google ecosystem which would be overall much cheaper and probably better if you're dissatisfied with Apple.
No it’s actually a fact that Apple actually rip you off in terms of price.
But you are actually correct that people don’t have to pay it because they have a choice

And there is nothing wrong with that. It always seems you're against companies making a lot of money of their customers.

Also about 25% of Apple's profit is paid by Google and not its customers.
Nobody thinks that companies shouldn’t make a profit but when your making practically massive profits on practically every product because you squeeze your customers for every penny you can get

Nah, I'm good... I'm clearly not a heavy photo user, but seriously, I do zero storage management, install what I like, use the phone as I like, have never had to delete anything or run through optimising storage...

64 GB is probably way too tight, but if you use the device mostly as a phone, occasional camera and productivity device, 128 is HEAPS.

The company could easily start every iPhone going forward at 256gb & the reason why they don’t is mainly to upsell you in the future.

Why should I pay for 256 when I use about 1/4 of it? iPhones are already expensive, you are NOT going to get more base storage for less money than less base storage.
nobody is forcing you to buy a 256gb iPhone but the reason they don’t it as base tier is because they want to be able to upsell people in the future hence the price structure. Furthermore if the 256gb was the only base option available you would pay it because you would compare it to the price of the 512gb

If we're going to be adding trash tier storage, why not a USB-C connected floppy drive as well?
Well, I'd hope that if you connected a floppy drive to an iPhone through the USB port, it'd work fine.

But seriously: Why do you call microSD cards "trash tier storage"? My own microSD card, which I use in my laptop, is 1 TB (1000 GB)! The speed is enough that I can run applanations off of the card, and I don't mean notepad, but video-games like Fallout 4.

Sure, 128GB should only be there on budget phones & tablets. Even some of those those come with 256GB nowadays. So that should be the bare minimum (If not 512GB). Adding SD card slot would actually be awesome. Just call it "The Magic Store" or something, and it will become the next big thing.

They probably never tried it. Or they think of the early Android days, where phones had low storage, and had to rely on the slow SD card for most things, which resulted in a poor experience.

For stuff that takes a lot of storage, like videos & music, SD cards can be god-sent. You definitely don't need PCIe 5.0 speeds to play these kinds of files.

Because some people think just because Apple doesn’t offer it then that’s the right approach

When Apple every now and then finally ups the base storage or RAM, the price is unaffected.

So I don't believe what you're saying is true.

I'd rather the price drop for the base level. Because as per my posts above - I am nowhere near hitting 128 despite doing zero storage management or caring about storage. I'm not alone.

If you want to pay same price today for more in next model - fine. But I feel that 128 is enough for the ENTRY spec, and a price drop would be beneficial.

I am sure there are many people like you, but it’s almost always the case for companies to give you more for the same price, even if you don’t need it. Lowering the price is not an option.

They are not going to lower the price on the base model because how are they going to get extra money out of customers that use very little of the services

FWIW, 128gb is more than enough for me. Why should I have to pay more because YOU want more storage. Just by what you want/need.

Summa summarum: I want to spend less money
Yes and no.

Some things are currently completely overpriced or they under-deliver.

Also, it's fine for me if they increase the baseline prices, but they need to include more.

Right now you have to pay an extra $250 CAD (and soon $300 CAD thanks to CAD/USD being miserable, but let's stay out of politics for this one) to add 256 GB of storage, when for this price you can buy a whopping 4 TB of Samsung 990 Pro.

Apple may just be wary of making another physical opening in the phone that water can get into.
