It's always the Friday after Thanksgiving, which is an American thing (Thanksgiving, that is.)

Interestingly if you're in Australia (or presumably just if your phone's region is set to Australia) and you ask Siri "when is thanksgiving?" it will always respond with the current date. Good work, Siri.

So basically they excluded new macs and are using black friday to clear old inventory lol

Yeah, it's the same thing they did last year: https://www.macrumors.com/2017/11/23/apple-black-friday-event-au-nz/

Screw Apple. Micro Center has the new Air on sale for $999 and $1199. Go there and get one.

I’m in the U.K not the US, I’ve been looking at alternatives to Apple anyway, just lately I’ve started to go off Apple.

The crap thing about these 'discounts' are that most other retailers (here in the UK at least) only sell the stock configurations. Because Apple include such paltry memory and storage options as standard, you end up having to purchase direct from Apple anyway, if you want to spec the machine up, and configure it to order. In the past, you could buy the base model from another retailer and then upgrade it yourself. Now you can't even do that (with SSD at least, although thankfully RAM on Mac Mini is upgradeable). Probably another reason why Apple do it, to rake in more $$$$$.

Basically anything new that has been announced in recent months don't get any discount.

These "deals" are more like clearing old stock to me.

Yea I agree, this isn’t a deal it’s clearing stock. Better deals can be had else where.

The Surface Pro 6 (which is new) is available with up to £400 off the price, now that’s a deal.

I still don’t understand what Black Friday is/why our stores have it? It’s an American thing.

Blame the internet for that. Thanksgiving is strictly an American holiday based more on legend than anything. We have traditionally been given a four day weekend (holiday) from work because Thanksgiving is on the 4th Thursday of November and most companies gave us the following Friday off from work too. So over time it became a tradition to start the Christmas holiday shopping in stores on the Friday following Thanksgiving, and eventually it became known as Black Friday. This was long before the internet when people still mostly shopped at brick and mortar stores. These stores competed with each other to get more business by giving discounts on Black Friday. After the internet and internet shopping took off, the Black Friday concept caught on around the world. After all, we have a global internet.

If I buy something and return it then do I keep the gift card?

Every American ‘thing’ becomes a global thing now all use the internet. America sets the standard for most thing and this is another example.

What a cheeky move - you will have to spend something more to make most of the gift card once again!

Assuming you can add gift card balance to your Apple Store account and let Apple Music etc (if you have it) deduct off the balance, so you are saving money monthly.

I’m looking for a deal for an iPhone Xs with no activation required. If anyone finds one please reply. Thank you and happy Thanksgiving!

Seriously? Greedy ****

You want two discounts? Maybe Apple are greedy as they don't offer us 'worker' discounts!

Pretty much the same in most retail, clear out the crap week it should be renamed.

Very are offering £150 cash back on Macs and 12 Months 0% (more like its a deferred payment, but 0% if you pay it back in a year) - ends tonight I believe.

Hmmm, Apple is struggling with iPhone sales so much that they didn’t offer any discount to the Xr, XS, or XS Max?

Remember kids, bad news on iPhone demand is usually fake news.

I’m looking at you Bloomberg, WSJ, Nikkei, and Ming Chi Kuo.

This confirms all the negativity around iPhone demand has been fake news. Apple chose not to discount their new lineup with Black Friday deals. They are doing fine.

That’s because you’re getting a surface

The analysts say that every year and every year they’re wrong

Yeah but this year there has been new iphone stock in the stores. And it's not because Apple supplied more stock. Go to the stores and there is not the usual sales going on. Stores are less crowded, stock is down people are not upgrading to the expensive phones as much. Just what I'm seeing :)

Surface is less bendy too :)

I'm confused... Why on earth would a company incentivize purchasing old products instead of new ones? I don't get it at all.
