It's always the Friday after Thanksgiving, which is an American thing (Thanksgiving, that is.) It's supposed to be the biggest shopping day of the year on the way to Christmas, so retailers have everything on sale in order to take more money from your wallet. Mo' money, mo' money, mo' money. Gimme gimme gimme.

You could do what I do and just stay home. Wallet intact.

Well this doesn’t entice me to go ahead and buy an air. I’ll wait till closer to graduation next May and get the student discount or wait till July to get a free pair of beats to go along with the student discount.

And if the new watch isn’t included I’ll wait till closer to Christmas to buy so I don’t lose a month of warranty. It won’t get opened and used till Christmas and the warranty would start the day it is bought or shipped, I’d imagine.
You don’t have to wait for the education discount. Apple does nothing to verify your status. Just go to the education store and make your purchase.

Do you really think that Gucci or Louis Vutton or MK will have BF discounts? You should all be happy that Apple does on AW3...

At the very least, I'd expect Apple to fully embrace Black Friday, being an American company.

Technically, Apple is ‘Fully’ embacing Black Friday, and in a completely different manner this year with a four-day Black Friday event. Not everything Apple discounts has to appeal to everyone.

The reality is, Apple doesn’t have to hold a Black Friday event or even offer any discounts with their products. Some may find value in their black Friday sale with discounts and earning a gift card purchase, and others will not. Just because they don’t have something you don’t find appealing, doesn’t mean this is event isn’t worth something to someone else who does.

That’s because you’re getting a surface

That’s true, it may not seem like a big deal but in fact it is a very BIG deal. I have owned a lot of Apple devices over the years, you could say I was a “fanboy” iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad 3, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro 2016, iPad Pro 2017, HomePod and the list goes on and on (iPhones, Apple Watch).

Just lately I’ve gotton dissatisfied with Apple, their price increases are ridiculous (£200 more for a new iPad Pro 2018) not to mention the reliability of the devices has dropped somewhat, my iPad Pro 2017 is 15 months old, it restarts itself and sometimes the screen goes black for a minute before hand. I have contacted Apple no fewer than 4 occasions, every person i have spoke with tells me to restore to factory settings and setup as new, the last person I spoke with told me I need to take it into an Apple store to be looked at by a technician, this will cost around £566.44 if they find a fault or have to replace it with a refurbished one.

Apple’s customer service isn’t what it use to be, their devices are not as reliable as they use to be, Mac’s have had issues just lately with the keyboards, the T2 chip issues and so on. I’m finally at the end of my rope with Apple, that’s coming from an Apple fan, I just wonder how many more like me there are out there, maybe it will eventually give Apple the shake up they need!

Sorry about the long post/rant.

Ah, classic Apple. You can find better discounts on these items throughout the year, and then the saving is in cash instead of a gift card that means you're still spending at least as much.

I'm so looking forward to their next earnings report in 2 months. I hope I can find a BF deal on popcorn tomorrow.

Doesn’t work with education discounts

Sigh; typical Apple. Although the education discount isn't much on Macs anymore. If you're planning on getting an accessory or something you're better off paying full price and getting the gift card if that is the case. Or if you're in the US, buy from one of the many online retailers selling everything for less anyway.

Well, did you follow the instructions and do a factory reset? Performing this task has existed on devices with operating systems since inception. Not sure why you think Apple would be magically immune to it.

Yes I did, I don’t think Apple are immune to it, that’s not the problem. I did what they said, restore to factory settings and set up as new to check if it was a data issue, it wasn’t.

Fair enough. I hear Apple is also immune to defects on the billions of devices they've shipped.

By definition Apple is a luxury brand that makes consumer electronics, Loius Vuitton is a luxury brand that makes bags.

What makes Apple a luxury brand? What is your definition of Luxury brand that includes Apple and Louis Vuitton yet excludes Microsoft and Samsung?

More than 2% of the entire population of Earth buys an iPhone every year. Hardly a luxury product. They are a mass-market consumer electronics company. All their parts are outsourced from third parties, the same third parties that supply components for every other cell phone maker. The parts are assembled at a variety of third party facilities that also make every other cell phone in the world.

Apple is not a luxury brand, they're a mass-market brand.

And as for luxury brands, you bring up Louis Vuitton. As others have said on this thread, when does Louis Vuitton charge for zippers sold separately. A luxury experience means you don't get nickled and dimed on accessories and dongles. I guess you know nothing about the Louis Vuitton experience. They are all about the shopping experience, the champagne product reveal events at their stores, the personalized service. Remember how Apple tried to market the watch when it first came out? They were trying to position it as a luxury product and sell it as a personalized experience. It flopped big time, because Apple and Luxury don't belong in the same book, much less the same sentence. Apple is mass-market. You watch videos for product reveals, you fight your way through a crowded store that is basically self-serve and god help you if you actually want to talk to someone about questions. Apple stores stink to hell from the crowds of unwashed fans. Those are the people buying Apple products. The second you walk into a Louis Vuitton boutique, it screams exclusive luxury experience.

There is nothing at all Luxury about Apple. And that's not a bad thing. There's a lot of money in being a mass market company like Apple. But I don't understand why you want to pretend they're luxury. Why does that make you happy to pretend?

Again totally missing the point. If you’d read my post and undstood it you would know what I was talking about, but hey if you want to be sarcastic that’s you’re business.

It used to be that we'd pay the "Apple tax" (as some call it) but in return we'd get great support and products that last years longer than the competition. I have returned countless new iPads (and one iPhone) over the years because of defective screens. My current iPad (12.9 gen 2) suffers from the unresponsive screen issue and just recently started bleeding light--this after 14 months of gentle use at home. My 12-inch MacBook has that "revolutionary" new keyboard where keys randomly stop working.

Now take all this and throw on another 20%-30% price increase for the same products as last year. @Dave245 has a fair point. Apple today is not the same as Apple from a few years ago. I also have reached my limit. I do not see the value added to their products for the new prices they are charging. When it's time to upgrade if everything stays the way it is I won't be buying from them. Some people will, but for me the value simply isn't there anymore.

Exactly! This is also my point, I don’t expect Apple to be perfect of course they will make mistakes, but what they have been doing isn’t just a mistake, it’s mistake after mistake, my iPad Pro 2017 is 15 months old and in order to fix it they wanted me to pay a ridiculous amount of money! Even Apple’s customer service isn’t what it use to be.

MacBook’s have the keyboard issue, they also have the T2 chip issue, software glitches, random restarts and so on, it’s simply not acceptable on devices that include an “Apple tax” something I use to be ok with paying because I knew I was getting a great, reliable product, that simply isn’t the case anymore. They then also bump the prices of new devices like the iPad Pro 2018 up even more, for me it’s just rubbing salt in an already open wound.

The iPad Pro 2018 prices are ridiculous, for the same price you can get a Surface Pro 6, which are even on offer at the moment with the Black Friday deals.

Don’t worry. It was anticipated somehow.
(Note: in the EU there is a 2-year warrantee that supersedes everything Apple has)

Apple give a 1 year warranty, I don’t know anything about a 2 year one with the EU? They just told me it would cost if the technician found an issue, because it’s out of warranty and I don’t have Apple Care their out of warranty fee is a whooping £566.44, which is around half of what a new device would cost!

It might be a mix of prominency, pricing and pretension from Apple that feeds a natural desire for self-affirmation at potential customers, leading to over-affection.
Just a guess.

Hahah. Dude!!!! This is why I hate visiting Apple stores. They always stink! I was in there the other day and someone around me dropped their guts. Big time! I nearly choked on my own vomit and had to quickly leave to get some fresh air and to basically save my own life.
