Actually, yes it was much better. It was tasteful. The new banners and iOS design make me think of Target, Kmart and Wonder Bread.

This will probably be the first year that I am not tempted to buy the new iPhone and it will be the first year where I actually hate the UI of the latest iOS. I will not be upgrading the firmware of my current devices to iOS 7.

Do you have to tell us everything you ain't doing?

What is with this obsession with live streams? Don't you people have jobs, school, something? Are there really people who are completely free in the middle of september to watch an event for 2 hours as it happens?

As a full time iOS developer I am in the need to know what is going on with my industry. Watching this is a good way to be up to date by the minute, watching live is just that much more fun. I will be watching as part of my job.

 Why would you cover such a beautiful, sexy phone!? I, as well as a few people I know go naked. But I do agree, majority I know put cheap, ugly cases on their iPhone's.

Until they make an iPhone with a giraffe on it, I shall be using a case with a giraffe.

No one wants Google Glass. A watch... slightly more interesting, but most people I know have shunned watches for years and I haven't heard a single person in real life clamoring to get back to wearing watches. It would take something life-changing to make a watch interesting.

Consider me one of those people clamoring to get back to wearing watches. But for me, it's all about the style and simple elegance of a nice analog watch. An iWatch would have to meet several probably unrealistic standards to get me to wear a digital watch again, plus significant style which Apple may in fact be able to pull off (we'll see). Still, if Apple creates a new market for smart watches, and other companies come along to compete, it could actually be interesting.

Wearable computing is the future, because it's the step before implanted computing and eventually full cyborgs. Google Glass is a misstep, I'll agree, due to social discomfort. Something on your wrist is much more comfortable and unobtrusive. I could see "smart clothes" coming along in the next 5-15 years as well. Smart glasses, while potentially very useful, remain icky.

That's interesting. I'm usually busy doing other things in the shower - like showering.

You can't use your ears while you shower? Or spend three seconds to check the morning's weather report? You must really concentrate on rinsing yourself off after soaping up, if you can't multitask.

Cue Apple drinking game. :p

Magical - 1 swig
Amazing - 1 swig
Unbelievable - 1 swig
Just X cm thin - 2 swigs
improved battery - 3 swigs
mention of app sales this year - 4 swigs
introduce phil schiller - 5 swigs
video with Ive looking constipated - 10 swigs

The worst is when Mansfield or someone says "only x mm thin". No, no, no. If you're going to use the word only then you don't say thin, you thick.

----------

Actually yes.

Seems very boring to me.

The more social our apps and devices get, the less actual human interaction we have. When I go out to the bar, you will see more people on their phones then actually interacting with each other.

Social discomfort is only for those on the receiving end. If they get popular enough, you won't have a choice they will be every where.

No to which ?

I just hope the event is more than just iPhone-centric announcements. I would really like to see some Mac announcements too....or some word on Mavericks at least.

No way Apple combines Macs and iPhones at same event. My guess is Macs in October.

There need to be more predictions! Here's mine...

iPhone 5C - 5 colors - 16GB - $99 on contract
iPhone 5S - 4 colors (gold & graphite being the new ones)- 32/64/128 - $199/$299/$399
(It won't be announced, but I'd guess the iPhone 5 will be similarly priced at $99 in a 16GB capacity)

I wonder if the 4S will stick around as the free option? I'm leaning toward no - simply because I think Apple wants to move their product line completely toward the lightning connector.

Also, we will see a collective freakout when the iPhone 5C is not free w/contract.

We'll see demos of the new iPhone 5S-specific features of iOS7.

We'll also see software demos of apple house apps - Pages, Numbers, Keynote, iMovie, etc.

Everything will be coming out on September 20th. The people in line at the Fifth Avenue store in NYC will have to camp out a wee bit longer...

Possibilities:
AppleTV - Opens up and allows apps. Since iOS7 is coming out, the launch of that would be a perfect time to open it up. This could also be held until the media event later in the fall - presumably October when iPads are rumored be announced.

No iWatch.
No Television set.
No significant surprises.

Apples stock will take a good 2-3% hit because media events never live up to investors expectations. The mods on this board will be busy all afternoon combining all of the "Apple is DOOOMED" threads.

I doubt people will even bother creating those DOOOMED threads. That has been a common knowledge for about two years now. it's unlikely that fingerprint scanner will change anything.

Still trying to decide if it's worth it to upgrade from my 4S. Still very excited for this though!

From a person using 5 for a year, it's worth it! And, you can return it within 14 days if it wasn't good enough!

I'm guessing he was talking about product, not banners.

----------

Will iOS 7 be made available pre iPhone launch?

YES!
Just kidding.No one here knows.

----------

I'm not following. So you're gonna be watching this when? Middle of the night? I doubt all the people asking about live streams' time zone falls in the evening or really early in the morning.

Good thing you deleted your comment. You really didn't think it through.

When I go out to the bar, you will see more people on their phones then actually interacting with each other.

This usually means people see no value in what you are saying, or you aren't aesthetically appealing enough to hold their attention, or get "on their radar".

It's not phones that are the problem. It's banality and the reality of never being as good looking as you imagine to be.

I disagree. In fact, I read one account recently from somebody with Google Glass who felt so uncomfortable wearing it in public he only uses it in private now, despite rather liking the device.

at 10am sharp, Tim's going to burst out of here dressed like bozo the clown to a flood of confetti.
