Carol Surface was the #1 chief human resources officer in 2022! You can’t fix culture with Apple employees who think they can walk on water like Gandi.

"I'm sorry Mr Cook, another Apple Store just unionised"

*Tim pulls lever to piranha-filled trap door*
In all honesty, hopefully Apple won’t be hiring a union buster to take her place.

Also, it’s pretty clear the title is called “Chief People Officer” because Human Resources has such a bad connotation (the department is almost always for the company and not for its employees), but I’m sure the position itself is exactly the same, just with a title that winds up coming off more dystopian than anything else.

Good riddance. If you know anyone who works in retail or on the phones you’ll know that especially since Covid management at Apple have basically been chanting, “let them eat cake, let them eat cake!”

Dealing with the public has gotten way worse since Covid and Apple has still been living in a world where they think it’s okay to not protect their employees from harassment from upset or deranged customers.

For many customers the customer experience is innately tied to the employee experience. And the employee experience is often soaking up vitriol caused by executives taking forever to figure out they had a really bad idea.

Now, as the new Chief People Officer is about to come (O'Brien, Surface, and ??) They will be the 3rd CPO or 3CPO if you like. Maybe, the name of the new 3CPO will be Luke, Han or even Leia... Who knows.

Rumors have just surfaced she was hired by the Microsoft Surface department. On the surface, that seems like a logical decision.

Apple's chief people officer Carol Surface is leaving the company, reports Bloomberg. Surface joined Apple in February 2023, so she has been at the company less than two years.

Most senior executives are at Apple for much longer periods of time, and it is not clear why Surface is leaving. She was hired when Apple decided to split its primary human resources role from retail last year, and she reported directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Deirdre O'Brien had been handling both the retail and people (or HR) role, but when Surface took over, O'Brien transitioned to just overseeing retail. With Surface leaving, O'Brien will once again oversee both people and retail.

Surface was previously the chief human resources officer at Medtronic, and the chief people officer title was created when she joined Apple.

No worries. She will be replaced by Surface Pro : ‘powered by AI and our fastest chip yet, 70% faster than the previous model!’

“Chief People Officer” !?!
Just another garbage job title.
🤮

That's probably similar to what people said back in the 1970s when "Personnel Departments" started to become "Human Resources Departments" and “Personnel Manager” titles started to become "Director of Human Resources" titles.

I don't see how it could be that much of a fun job to begin with. It's like the mind reading guy in the Christopher Farnsworth novel, all he wanted to do was spend time on a private island with no one around for miles and miles.
