Not really. When you’ve been in Marketing long enough you’ll realised that it’s not jut about the initial income you’ll get from something, you start to see things in a bigger picture, how does the picture look like as it progress further. Similar to this, sure they will earn commission for every apps, initially but without reviewing the app thoroughly and they missed out on something that could affect their brand in the future and could lead to a PR madness, lawsuit, it could cost them more than how much they’ve earning from it. Especially with apps now, you don’t know if information they pull out from you and cross sharing it to other apps for target advertising.

So let's get this straight... The man in charge of deciding whether an app stays or goes, or deciding what changes need to be made to an app, is the VP of marketing. Can anyone say conflict of interest? That makes no sense at all.

Macrumors has reported on how Facebook and Uber got secret api’s that passed the review board in the past, so it is obvious that this Board does give special treatment to certain companies. See https://www.macrumors.com/2017/10/05/uber-removing-apple-granted-api/.

So, this executive review board determines what apps can be downloaded to my phone instead of me. Why can’t I have the decision on what apps to download off the internet? Does Apple think consumers can’t decide for themselves? If there was a completing App Store on the iPhone or the option to download apps off the internet, this Board would have to loosen its grip.

You made that decision to let Apple vet your apps when you got an iphone.

Man that's a lot of apps to review per day. Quality must drop at that review speed?

Maybe on some level, but I think there's a lot of review done automatically either before or after the human reviewer, so I think the scope of what the reviewers need to look for is smaller than might be assumed. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The situation for Apple is much like many other groups that have rules for their constituents. Examples: eBay, the IRS, parents of teenagers, and -- let's face it -- the MacRumors forums.

You have a set of rules. They're fine for almost everyone. But some people are bound to stay just inside whatever line you've drawn, while others will stretch the rules, cross the line, and find weaknesses in the rules as stated.

So you have a team evaluate unusual cases and adjust the rules when appropriate. If you do it fairly, there's nothing inherently improper about it. It's a little more secretive with Apple, but I don't envy the members of the Executive Review Board.

What? It's Apple's App Store. They decide whether an app stays or goes on their platform. It is of the interest to Apple to make sure there are no bad apps on the App Store. App Store was never meant to be completely fair. Just fair enough to attract a lot of developers.

I am NO fan of Phil Schiller. He has ate one (or 100 or so) too many hot dogs. Never been impressed. It's my personal opinion not based on anything or this Apple Review Board ... but I think he and Eddie Cue's time has come and gone and are holding Apple back.

I don’t see why this is any surprise. Phil Schiller has been in charge of the app store since 2015 and I would be more surprised if he wasn’t playing an active role in deciding which apps were approved and which weren’t.

Why is doing the job you were paid to do such a shocker now?

Schill, is an disgusting anti democratic person. As all the apple leadership. App Store is a joke, hopefully gets broken up soon.
Well in fact idc apple has become one of the most disgusting companies for me!

Why not just leave every app in and give a rating? What’s so difficult being a sane human being? People who wanna go with a(pple) rating only get shown this apps, done!

No we need censorship and a process and rules!

That explains how/why Apple crippled the Steam Link app, despite it effectively just being a remote desktop client. The fact that the client I use intentionally disables features on my PC (and that Apple thinks they have any ethical right to dictate that) is outrageous.
No.

Anyone else feel like this story wasn’t really much of a story? I mean it’s nothing like the exposés on Facebook’s content moderators.

If you want to read a real exposé, read this: https://www.theverge.com/2019/6/19/...-interviews-video-trauma-ptsd-cognizant-tampa

It is part of the PR to show Apple's isn't just collecting 15 - 30% out of nothing. There are real work in those margins.

I wonder if they have develop of System Pre Scan and Screen all these Apps, so there is less labour required.

What? So you are suggesting to have two App Store, one Regulated and one not?

One time Apple took 14 days to approve an app, today they take 24-48 hours, they have improved vastly and everyone big or small is treated the same.

At times some rejected apps seem silly as one of my apps was rejected before the name had the word kid in it, I had to change the game name from Pocket Kid to Pocket Boy or state it was made for kids, as they felt that word Kid could be misleading and I can see their point but they just covering themselves from legal stuff and that’s just the world today everyone has to be careful unlike years ago
