Agreed on the wishes for retirement.
Well, most of us would agree that “Apple is an environmentally-aware, racially-just company” and it can be readily proven. But not that “Apple is the most environmentally-aware, racially-just company in the world “. What data or reviews would support that top ranking?

According to the Forbes 2025 Net Zero Leaders list of the top environmentally conscious US companies, Apple ranks 29, behind Microsoft, Seagate, HP.
The Forbes 2025 Sustainability Leaders List “highlights global leaders including entrepreneurs, investors, activists and scientists who are working to combat the climate crisis.” An Apple representative is not among them.

Make them optional on purchase then. Don't want one? Pay the same money for your shiny new device but don't take one.

Your wish is granted, I presume you’re happy? Stores in the EU are obligated by law to give you the option (as you wished) of buying the product with no charger. Most brands forego the option with a charger, by choice. The prices are not set by the government, that would be socialist/communist.

To those who defend Apple’s removal saying they already have a drawer full of these chargers, how much tech are you buying and how frequently?
If Apple gave people the option to grab a charger (included in the cost of the phone) or not at purchase this would be a simple fix. That’s how we know it was never about being environmentally conscious. They just used that to pander to certain groups.
We all know Apple’s first priority is to make money, and they should because they’re a business. I’m sure they saved a bunch of money removing the chargers but it really is ridiculous that you have to buy a charger to charge your premium phone.

Here's a picture of some of the chargers and cables I have accumulated over the years, next to one of my more recent purchases - a 140w multi-port charger. You will notice that I have not bothered to unwrap my apple cables either.
People are not going to say no to free things. Given the choice between taking a free charger or otherwise, who in their right mind would turn down the option of taking the free charging brick when doing so does not cost them anything? Even if I don't need one, what's stopping me from still taking one anyways, then tossing it into the bin days later when I don't have space in my drawer for it?
The thing is - it is possible for Apple to do something that is environmentally conscious, while also benefiting its bottom line. These two are not mutually exclusive. Given that Apple sells more than 200 million iPhones a year (and I am being conservative here), removing the charger does mean a ton of potential e-waste avoided. At the same time, the packaging is smaller, meaning you can transport more iPhones at a time, meaning fewer trips, resulting in a lower carbon footprint a well.
At the same time, it can be argued that all these monetary savings help to avoid what might otherwise have been a higher price for the iPhone (but we will never know, since it's hard to prove a hypothetical).
I also see it as an opportunity to consolidate my charging setup. For example, instead of using 3 separate chargers for your iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch, you can charge them all using one of those 3-in-1 MagSafe chargers. Power strips come with usb-A or even usb-c ports nowadays, letting you charge smaller devices without needing a dedicated brick. My Anker 67w charger chargers either my MBA, my Nintendo Switch, or my iPad at my desk.
People nowadays own way more electronic gadgets than they did a decade ago and single-port charging solutions just don't cut it any more these days, IMO.

I politely disagree. If I buy an electric device I expect all parts needed to charge it to come with it at no extra cost. This is just about functionality. If Apple intends to avoid chargers they should make them clickable to opt out.

She made everyone’s lives worse by ditching leather cases, removing iPhone chargers, removing EarPods, removing stickers, etc. She’s the one who has been making the customer experience worse every year.

Perhaps they could add a voucher for an apple accessory so you can choose a basic charger if you really need one or a discount on any other accessory for people that don’t need one. Better than just including a charger in every box when the need for that has lowered

Truly, the lack of stickers of a company logo made my life miserable. Same with the lack of EarPods, I wish there was some kind of free market where you could find hundreds of alternatives in any color, quality, price, form…

USB is now a defacto standard domestic power supply. It's almost as ubiquitous as mains power and responsibility is rightly shifting to the consumer to have USB power available in their home. That's just the future, that's what the free market is going to give you, and you'll eventually realise it's what you prefer.

I remain disappointed that she did not ensure Apple’s all-in-one desktop line could be used as monitors once their compute life was over. That seems an obvious environmental win and a pretty low bar.
The charger made the box larger therefore had to use more transport to ship the devices, which makes the removal of chargers less polluting.
Additionally a lot of people already had the chargers which would end up as e-waste anyways same applies for earpods.
People forget that what comes in the box is not free, it is part of the price and forget to consider that the iPhone starting price has only increased by $100 since 2017 alongside an annual average inflation rate of 3.15%.
