The only way to know is to take it in and find out. That scuff shouldn’t be an issue and it probably won’t be but you might get an overzealous genius that thinks it is. From getting express replacements through AC+, via online, what they are looking for is cracked screens and high impact damage to the body that would suggest the device was treated with unusual carelessness.

Express replacements are the best part about AC+. You don’t have to deal with those overzealous genius who can’t reproduce your issue or complain that your battery is at 81% instead of the 80% for replacement. They will give you a new phone and won’t charge you as long as it’s not damaged, even if they can’t reproduce the issue.

Hi,
So I discovered yesterday that the only coverage apple offer needs to be purchased within 60 days after after not up to a year. Do you know if an other coverage exists for macbook? I got mine 11 months ago and my computer is not great. I need to make sure I can extend the warranty for 2 more years. thanks!

I don't think you can get AC 11 months after buying. If there's something wrong with it send it in now while it's under warranty.

I’m curious what ever happened to this “extended AppleCare+ purchase” story. Was it made up?

All the tech sites posted it at the same time but when I tried buying it for a 3mo old AirPod and they said that its only 60 days. Did the big websites get tricked and never bothered correcting the story?

It didnt mention it on the website and I called once asking about buying AC+ on a 3mo old AirPod and they said that its only 60 days.
I heard rumors that they were going to extend it but perhaps the current situation with stores closing changed that. I think the only way Apple could do it was to examine it in the store to test and verify everything was undamaged and working. If not people would get AppleCare after they cracked the screen on their phones or when an issue comes up. AppleCare is sort of like insurance so they don't want to sign you up after the accident :)

It requires in store inspection. It cannot be done remotely. I was able to purchase AC+ 9 months after buying my iPhone.

I can also confirm this. I took my wife’s MacBook Air to my local Apple Store today to get AppleCare+ coverage, and the original warranty literally expires tomorrow. They had no problem selling me a plan after inspecting the laptop.

Also nice to know that the coverage expiration is 3 years from the purchase of the plan rather than the device as it used to be. I was pleasantly surprised when it said the plan end date was in 2023.

Triple-ing down on this. My 1-year warranty ends in 6 days as I bought my macbook pro last year, 12/2019.

I went in today due to recent battery problems and wanted to get it seen before my 1 year. The apple rep handled everything and also told me about this new policy change where that I could add AC+ within the one year of purchase now. It was $379 (+ tax). I've already received the policy email which shows coverage till Dec. 2023. This change took effect just in time! Miles may vary but going to the apple store in person seems to be the best way to get extended coverage.

Why is this being kept so quiet? I just bought a MacBook a month ago and support page still says I only have 14 days left to buy Apple Care. When really I have over 10 months if I decide I want to add it. I was about to buy it today when somehow I saw a news article about it... it's impossible to even find on Apple.com and if you do find it, it's so confusing and misleading you would have no idea it actually applies to the United States. Bad job Apple.. making people rush into spending $349 dollars in a pandemic when I could wait until late next year.... hmmmm.

I can’t speak to Apples reasons, but if you wait the 300 odd days to purchase AC+ you will need to make an appointment at an Apple store. Now that’s assuming Apple is still doing this in one year. If you buy it now, you can do it over the phone or maybe online. Not sure about online.
Whatever Apples reasons, it makes sense not to drive people into their store during a pandemic, so perhaps that is why no publicity or info on the website.

So is there no way to get this done over the phone? My nearest apple store is over two hours away. Wanting to get this added to my m1 MacBook. I have several apple devices so hoping that cut me some slack and just do remote diagnostics or let me send pictures showing everything is running smoothly.

So basically, I can skip AppleCare and buy it up to a year later if I crack my screen, making a screen repair much cheaper?

Cannot be done over the phone.

I was over 60 but within 90 days and I got it done over the phone today without even a diagnostic. They said it went from 60-90 due to covid situation.
The question was referring to the 365 day policy, which requires you to go in.

I don't think so. The first sentence says it all - "These benefits do not apply if Your card privileges have been cancelled". The second sentence is just saying the same thing as the first - your benefits are good prior to your account being suspended or cancelled.

I just read another CC terms and conditions and I think this is a recurring theme with 'new' cards. If you don't have the card anymore, you lose all your extended warranties etc. Maybe the insurance companies were losing $$$?
I agree. I would read the second clause to mean if the Incident occurred while you were in good standing, then your card was cancelled (which could happen just because the bank decided you didn’t use your card enough and therefore weren’t profitable) before the repair was completed or filing was completed, you’d still be covered. It doesn’t mean if the coverage period started while you were in good standing, just the triggering incident.

September 2022 - It still works! This afternoon I was able to purchase AppleCare+ for the MacBook Pro I bought 7 months ago.

The trickiest part was booking a Genius Bar appointment. I couldn’t schedule online - the automated system said my MacBook Pro was “ineligible” because it was beyond the 60 day mark. I called my local Apple Store phone number. Initially I was referred to online booking, but eventually I spoke to an actual AppleCare representative. She wasn't local, but I told her why I wanted my MacBook Pro inspected and she set up an appointment at the closest Genius Bar without any questions.

From there, it couldn’t have been any easier. The Genius Bar did the inspection, ran diagnostics and processed my AppleCare+ purchase within 15 minutes!

I'm so grateful to MacRumors for helping me protect my investment!!

Is this still the current policy? Looking at a machine still in its original year. No problem with them inspecting etc. Would love the Monthly but would also do the Full if needed.
