what about BLUETOOTH MIGHTY MOUSE? it can't be that hard to pull the wire out of this thing...

I was going to post this, but you beat me to it. They need a nice, sleek, wireless mighty mouse

Nice horse. He doesn't look so well.

Well, we'll see in a few days anyway.

This whole revolutionary "boombox" thingy has my attention. But I must admit, I'm getting into the market for a new mac. It's either operate on my iMac G4 by throwing in a new 200 GB HD or wait for an acceptable release. Ideally, I'd like to jump up to a mid-level Powermac. I don't know if I can wait that long, though...unless they're announced on Tuesday. ;)

The regular bluetooth Apple mouse needed battery change every week and that made me go off the concept. If the wireless mighty mouse would be the same, I'll keep my wired mighty mouse.

Yes, I am interested to see exactly what this "boombox" entails as well. As for a new PowerMac, if you are indeed in the market for one you might as well just wait until Tuesday to see what actually happens. Although if I was a betting man... oh wait, I am.. ;)

Translation: They cost money...and I don't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out right now...and I have a wife managing our family's finances = I can wait 'til Woodcrest or Conroe or whatever the hell it is. ;)

Zero. Without getting permission from the DVD-CCA, it would be a violation of the DMCA. The DVD-CCA has contracts with most DVD producers and DVD player manufacturers that would preclude them from agreeing.

It will never happen unless the DMCA is repealed. Sorry.

Well, probably that's why the DMCA was enacted in the first place...too few REAL lawyers that understood the issue of intellectual property rights. You are right about the supposed "violation" of the DMCA in its current (absurd) form; but already correcting what another post has said, violation of anti-circumvention techniques is not violation of fair use. Besides, protection of IPR as such is independent of the media used; if you buy a license, you should be able to use content in whatever media you feel like, provided you don't make commercial use or spread it to others.

Obviously the U.S. has a penchant for making stupid use of legal systems, so it's no surprise if the RIAA/MPAA lobby so much as to prevent such a legitimate thing...

In fact, fair use has NOTHING to do with a "consortium" of companies, or what they "allow" you to do...fair use is a statutory right that does not differentiate between CDs or DVDs, and is predicted under hard laws, not the private will of a select few...if fair use tells you it's OK to make a private copy, you can do it regardless of being CD, DVD or cassette; and this is where fair use and DRM collide most.

Pixlet

People earlier were talking about compression - i.e. full version of a
movie might be 5-6GB...What ever happened to Pixlet? The Steve rolled
it out at WWDC in 2003, and then I haven't heard anything about it,
unless it was fused with QT to do H.264...Either way, he promised
really high quality, good compression (can't remember most of it, it
was a few years ago). Does anybody see that playing in here at all?

I'm not sure what Apple will release (duh!), but I'm not sold on a few
things:
iPod: in the history of iPod releases, only one was in February: iPod
mini 2G. None were ever released in March. Most releases, obviously,
came during either WWDC, MWSF, or October (Christmas rush). If the iPod
was supposed to come out at MWSF, then this MIGHT be it, but it seems
like Apple has waited a good long while. If anything, it won't be the
main item.

Mini: maybe. Intel chips it would likely use aren't out yet (unless
Apple is trying to make this thing like Rambo-Mac or something). It
would seem that that announcement will come in late March - Apple turns
30, begins its conquest of the video market.

iBook/MBP/etc intel: I think these will be released as they come out.
They might have their own releases, but the point is that Apple needs
to boost its sales big time. It is taking a hit when it has a mixture
of PPC/Intel. In an case, even if they aren't seeing a deficit, just
having the PPC there means they are selling less than they could be
(uncertainty principle [ba5tardized for consumers]). Maybe one of them,
but who knows.

Tablet: just no. I don't see a future in this thing. I do, however, see
a future of taking the on-screen capabilities and putting it on an
iBook, here's why. People that use iBooks are mostly consumers, not
prosumers. They want simplicity, and could (for the most part) care
less about what is under the hood. Apple gives them a pen and a touch
screen, they'll be happy (if I offended iBook users, apologies, I'm
exaggerating a *bit*. Also, if you are reading this, you obviously
aren't the iBook user I am referring to).

iPod touch screen: The Steve has said over and over again, no to PDAs.
Also, what is the functionality of this thing?? After watching a video
on the way to a board meeting, Joe Executive will need to charge it as
he takes notes...means the brick goes with him...means he doesn't like
it...means it's a no go. I think that the best application of the
details listed is up above. Now, this touch circle is interesting. Note
how a lot of companies have the additional function keys on their
laptops and (somewhat) Apple does not (I'm talking about a "take me to
the internet" and "play/pause" button, not volume and such)? Well, what
if Apple incorporated those into the screen? Personally, I would have
liked to see a click wheel built into an iBook, would make a lot of
things really sweet, granted more expensive, but I frankly expect that
from Apple.

If some of this is redundant, I'm sorry, it was a post that I put up yeterday, and then for some reason, never made it on the site...I think I need a new router.

Thats all for now. Go! lay into it. Now!

Cheers,
Macaddict06

Remember the last invitations? They always were a kind of "riddle" about the presented product. (Theater screen = front row, small jeans pocket = iPod nano) now what does Apple want to say with that iCal symbol. In my opinion it has to be a Product which uses iCal functionality. An iPod with touchscreen would not be far away from a PDA and shurely a great device for using as a Calendar. A stylus and hand writing recognition would be enough to edit your dates. So i'm hoping for a video iPod with some PDA functionality, lets see if i'm right :)

i was looking at Dell PDA things and was like

"I want an Apple on really bad"

however a Core Duo Mac Mini would rock as well

Remote

Could it be a fancy programmable remote?
heh, that would be interesting, but the market is pretty full of those. Keep in mind, Palm already has that, sort of. Anything with a bi-directional IR port can become a programmable remote with proper software. My freind uses his palm all the time to shut off the projector on our unknowing Spanish teacher...with nice results :D.

OK, just a little point about the possibility of a BT Mighty Mouse.

Users that buy,no, use an Apple mouse are taking dedication too far. The mouse requires the user to hold their hand too flat and is damned uncomfortable to use for long periods of time. I seem to remember reading somewhere that some offices weren't allowed to use it because their insurance wouldn't cover them due to the high risk of their employees getting RSI. Can't confirm that is true, but it would fit with my experience of the mouse.

I'd love apple to make a BT mouse and they could easily fit the BT technology into a deeper mouse which would actually be better for all. Fingers crossed.

PS. and please get rid of the stupid name. Mighty Mouse. Not sure if the cartoon Mighty Mouse ever made it to the States, but for a 28+ year old in the UK it is an awful name.

Steve also said that people dont want video on iPod's, but thats what we have now. I think Steve, and Apple generally are very good at doing exactly what they want. And even better at fooling people.

If Steve had said, yeah we think video is where it's at, every cheese brand mp3 player maker in the world would have started pumping out video players. Thats bad. Shock value is everything for Apple marketing, the whole iPod with video thing is a great case in point - "we wont do it, ever, never, forget it, its not what you want...oh by the way: BOOM. here you go!"

Dont think of it as a PDA, think of it as an iPod with extra features. Dont forget its an iPod (that can play video) not an iPod Video.

This device will be an small mac, lets say MacPad for the sake of arugment.
NOT a tablet, an iPod on steroids. iTunes with simlar functionality as it has on the motorola phone (handy that they have already developed a slim version of iTunes isnt it?), a new version of iCal will be the key on this device.

Expansion of iLife, 'Take your iLife with you'. iCal being your organiser, just happens to play music (remember not an ipod). iPhoto, addressbok.

iCal isnt 'new', and its not 'fun'. Put it in a MacPad, all of the sudden, work can buy it for you and its a cool fun gadget that lets you take iLife on road without having to carry an ipod too.

There is more but i think this post this is long enough ;)

There's a lot to offer in those rumors:

- Full length films on iTunes
- Intel Widescreen MacBook (iBook)
- Intel Mac Mini
- iPod Companion Product (iPod Boombox)
- New iPod Video

Well, it's my understanding that Apple holds January/June as their main announcments and everything in between as their smaller announcements. This special event is definitely an iPod event. If Apple does go the direction of films on iTunes then they will most likely split the store up into two. The iTunes Movie store and the iTunes Music store, but then I'm sure people would ask... what about the iTunes TV Store? I don't know... just a thought.

I think it's an iPod event, because there was nothing really of an iPod event in January. Since June is so far away it only makes sense for Jobs to reveal what's new to the iPod community now... So, I don't think were going to see iBook upgrades to be called MacBooks until June and the same thing for the Mac Minis. What do you all think?

Evan

I definitely think we'll hear some Ipod news. There essentially hasn't been anything, since October '05, unless you count the radio remote released at MacWorld. Which I think more of a me too product. I don't understand why Apple released something like that, there are plenty of third party soultions that allow you to listen to FM radio. However I have to admit it is kind of neat how Apple has brought back a wired remote to the Ipod, and as a bonus it does FM radio too. By no means is it worth $49 though. Now give us an Apple-branded 16kHz voice recorder accessory with a quality microphone and price it less than $80 I'd buy it along with a new Ipod.:)

I find mine rather comfortable actually, and no its not because I fooled myself in thinking so, I've thought so from the beginning. But then again, my right hand is shaped rather oddly (my middle 3 fingers are all the same length because my middle knuckle is recessed back from the rest) so it feels rather natural...
