Apple's first-ever store at Tysons Corner Center will soon be relocating within the shopping mall, according to Michael Steeber's weekly Tabletops newsletter. The mall is located in Tysons, Virginia, a Washington, D.C. suburb.

Steeber said the following message was posted on a temporary wall at a new location in the mall:
The first-ever Apple Store opened 22 years ago here at Tysons Corner. Soon we look forward to welcoming you to this newly reimagined space. Thank you for being part of our story. Here's to the next chapter.
Apple has yet to announce a grand opening date for the new location, and the current store remains open for now. On the store's page, Apple teases that "a new chapter is coming soon," without providing any further details. The mall's website says Apple's new store will be located on the upper level between Nespresso and Victoria's Secret.

In what has become an iconic video, Steve Jobs conducted a tour of Apple Tysons Corner, unveiling the Genius Bar and more. The store opened to the public on May 19, 2001, just a few hours before Apple Glendale Galleria opened its doors in Glendale, California. The two locations welcomed over 7,700 people and sold a combined total of $599,000 of merchandise through the first weekend of operations, according to Apple.

Steeber said the new store's opening will be significant:
It goes without saying that this opening will be significant because it's the first time the first Apple Store has ever moved. But this opening will be much more than that — trust me. Tysons Corner is where it all began.
The existing storefront had already received a facelift in the 2000s, losing its iconic black facade with two backlit Apple logos on each side of the entrance.

Apple now operates 525 stores around the world.

Always brings a smile to my face seeing Steve Jobs. I'm sure Apple would be different if he was still around, but I still absolutely love being fully invested into the Apple ecosystem. I think I made the switch to Apple a few years after he passed too :/

Its been a while since I've had a reason to go to Tysons Corner mall, but I may visit after the move. Sometime in the past year or so they moved the store at Reston Town Center, just a few doors up from where it was (I think they took over a larger space). Thats closer to where I live, so its my default whenever I need to go to the store. Wish they would open one up in Ashburn, VA.

I never made the "switch" to Apple.....my first computer ever was the Apple //+ and I've been hooked ever since! 😀 I wonder what Apple does with any of the old, in-store, tables, displays if they don't transition to a new store? I'd love something from an old store!

The first Apple Store I ever went in - I was visiting the US from the UK with work, and my coworker had to grab something for his clunky old iPod. Who'da thunk they would get so prevalent?

The Apple Store in Tysons Corner has already moved locations once since it first opened, if I remember correctly. The Microsoft store took over Apple’s original location in Tysons Corner Center when the Apple Store moved to its current location a few years ago.

i miss seeing the black Apple store exterior, as a kid I always wanted the new iPod or Mac they had at the time, so it was a treat to visit the Apple store to see the latest and greatest, takes me back.

I bet it's moving because the current location is unsafe.
Huh? Really?

I lived in the metro DC area for about 8 years, until moving back to the midwest a few years ago. During that time, I made several trips to Tyson's Corner mall and to this Apple store. It's a pretty amazing shopping mall, especially considering how most malls in America are struggling to remain relevant and stay in business. Tyson's Corner is one of those "mega malls" that serves as a travel destination for people all over the DC metro area and it even has its own stop on the Metrorail system.

It's a VERY crowded area, both speaking of the mall parking garage and lots, and everything in the vicinity. But "high crime / dangerous" isn't a term I would have ever used for it? Overall, it seems like a wealthy area so lots of money gets spent in Tyson's, including many auto dealerships there and nice hotels and restaurants.

I will say, I had pretty good customer service from the Tyson's Apple store. Don't know if it's remained that way? But going back 4-5 years, they were able to do such things as sell me a custom configured Macbook Pro 16" that you'd normally have to mail order (they did enough sales volume so they tended to stock several non-standard configurations of machines to buy upon request), and they replaced a defective keyboard cover on my iPad Pro at no charge when it was failing to detect properly when it was attached.

That original store looks way more interesting than they are now. Nowadays they barely have any product in them, other than the devices themselves.
The original store used to have all kinds of cases, bags, earphones, headphones, computer speakers. Overtime Steve Jobs gotta rid off anything that competed with products they introduced that competed with 3rd party products. Example iFi HiFi. Now when you walk into an Apple Store the diversity is very much lacking. Yes they have their various Apple products and devices, but the magic is gone from this earlier time of celebrating being an Apple Fan. In a way each store was a bit like a smaller MacWorld exhibit to explore and be fascinated by.
