Geez...

Can we just get a touchscreen MacBook instead? Thanks
Mac is not touch first device.
I've had Windows laptops I never touched the screen. It's over rated experience reaching out and not accurate like touch on phone or tablet.

how awkward was the UX with touch and having to resort to a pen and still it was scribbles not straight lines.
try doing that at arms length without software to correct your input...

exactly

Why anyone wants touchscreen computers is beyond me

It’s a necessary accommodation on a pocket device because you can’t fit a keyboard and pointer in your pocket

It’s not an ideal ux

I know it’s not a touch device but sometimes a quick tap is faster. I‘ve also had windows laptops with touch devices and it is practical.

tap is about it. menus are bad.
drawing or signing are awful.
and seriously using a trackpad or mouse that's already there isnt that hard.
let's be real.

and then fingerprints... yuk

Apple has had a reasonably significant number of patents granted on foldable through the years, so you know there’s at least a few folks relatively high up interested in maintaining and funding R&D in that direction even if you ignore the supply chain rumors.

I think it’s likely Apple’s working on a folding phone personally
Well one has a code name and they have signed a contract for foldable displays so looks locked on it’s going to happen in a few years

Well it's a good thing no one is forcing you to buy or use it but the rest of us could enjoy it.

I know quite a few people at work who have the Samsung foldables and really like them. One guy is still on a gen 2 and has had no problems. I like the form factor as it would suit my use case perfectly and would get one if Apple made one in a heartbeat as it would fit in my Apple ecosystem. I don't get all the negativity. Don't like them? Don't buy one. I don't like the mac mini, but if it works for you go ahead and get one!
Just a reminder, you know "quite a few" people what have them. I was talking to people who work in a store and don't care what device a person chooses. None of them had anything nice to say in regards to the durability of them.

I wasn't attacking whether they were cool or not. In fact in one of my posts in this thread I even said how impressed I was with it, which prompted me to ask about the durability. I might even consider one when Apple is ready to release theirs. Can't say for sure only because I haven't see it yet.

Some folks might say that while they’ve got foldable devices, they haven’t quite “done it” yet.

I know about Apple’s quality ups and downs over the years, and I’ve only seen a few Samsung Foldables in person. But I can’t imagine Apple would release the ones I’ve seen.

i can imagine Apple doesnt want a device that looks very similar to the Galaxy ZFold. however, they want access to a new smartphone with a vastly larger screen size. a folding iPhone like the ZFold isn't a bad thing - esp as their product lines have become stale. maybe Apple jump-steps the current bifolding devices & just goes for the trifold device. this will be interesting.

I just think a bi-fold phone is stupid and not worth it. Quality issues, odd open size, thickness....I don't see the real benefit. Carry an iPad Mini separate if you need one. Maybe someday Apple can just add straight up phone capability to an iPad Mini (work arounds available for year, but still not direct like a phone).

Here's an idea once the tech is available and quality is reliable....make a TRI-FOLD iPhone so when folded up (like an S) its still the same normal size footprint as a phone today with the screen still exposed (of course thicker though) but then when opened up it becomes much more comparable to a tablet size ratio. Just a thought.

believe it or not, average iPhone users want a larger screen & a foldable option.

the ZFold eliminates the need to carry a (separate) tablet. which is the point. esp for users that arent concerned with using a large tablet. a bi- or trifold iPad Mini with phone app would be a good alternative to carrying both an iPhone and iPad.

Samsung, Xiaomi, etc have been working on the trifold devices for a couple years now. these companies have already shown physical folding concepts. we'll see Xiaomi's trifold phone this month.

i have a ZFold 2 (rose gold/gold hinge) i purchased in 2020 that i use daily. its very durable. still receiving carrier/manuf updates. luv it! no issues with the outer screen or the main folding screen. i do like the newer ZFold6 bc it closes flat & is a bit thinner. but i haven't had a real need to replace the foldable i current have. i've maintained device cases through the years bc the metal exterior tends be a little slippery at times. i've dropped it dozens of times - no cracked outer screen. wish there more soft silicon cases for it today for better confident grip. otherwise the ZFold experience is solid.
