Now that I have the Air, I don't need or want a foldable. I need an ultrawide camera and the phone would be perfect. Battery is no issue for me.

“Whether the reduction in hinge price will reduce retail price or simply bolster Apple's margins is an open question.”

I’m gonna take a leap and say… BOLSTER. Just a hunch. lol

I don't get the obsession with folding phones. Why do you want something so inherently mechanical that will surely break? What's wrong with the iPhone's current form factor?

Why not make an iPhone Airs with no bezel on one side as separate devices, and let the user at will connect two of those with something MagSafe-like?

what's "fail" mean in this context for you?

That it won't find satisfied customers or that it won't meet Apple's internal or the market's expectations?

In other words, are you looking at this from a consumer or shareholder perspective?
Honestly both.

iPhone Air failed
Apple Vision Pro failed
Homepods failed

There is no real innovation. Fold does not solve any problem and the specs ain't gonna make people upgrade.

Apple's Foldable iPhone Could Be Cheaper Than Expected

“In a new report, Kuo said that the hinge designed for Apple's foldable iPhone is expected to carry an average selling price (ASP) of approximately $70 to $80 when mass production begins, well below the market expectation of $100 to $120 or higher.”
❗️ 🙈 ❌

Wow! The input costs of materials is “expected” to be $30-$40 less than anticipated!

Looking forward to that HUGE savings!

We plan on saving far more than that. In fact, we're going to save the entire $2,460 expected cost by not buying the darn thing in the first place! 😂

I think that the last time I was genuinely surprised (in a good way) at an Apple price was when the iPad was $499 instead of a grand.

Apple, and all companies not going for commoditzation, will always price it at what they think the customer will pay. The manufacturing cost is just a lower limit for it. And what the customer will pay depends on how good it is compared to the competition and how cheap the competition is.

So if it gets cheaper to produce, it doesn't affect the price the market will bear. Only if it gets cheaper for everyone, competition might start forcing prices down. Look at Apple's storage prices and you know even that isn't always true if there's enough differentiation uoea

A shame the AVP team didn't get the memo about Meta Quest 2 & 3.

A lesser product, yes, but not three THOUSAND dollars less.

What a shock they've struggled with AVP.

How long are you getting out of it? Enough for a full day?
I say yes but that comes with a caveat. I have easy access to charging at my job. I am a heavy user, I am on my phone quite a bit for work and play daily. I also have the battery pack just in case. I haven't had to use it yet. I am going to disney soon so I am going to be able to stress test the phone no doubt. I was able to use my 15 pro last time i went and we carried one portable charger to share among 4 people. We shall see. I'll be carrying an extra battery charger.
