Apple's secret weapon has always been its scale. Able to to bring previously financially unviable products to the masses; then with the infrastructure in place, available to competitors. This is a superpower that has brought us so much innovation to the most out amount of people in record time. It is a super power that sometimes goes uncredited.Their constant assembly-line development of their amazing silicon being the most amazing and most impactful.

I click on these articles just to see how upset half the commenters are. "I don't need it so nobody else should."

I've been saying I'll buy the Apple Fold on day 1, but my Z Fold 7 has been so nice I'm not sure I will go back. I miss iOS, but a Gen 1 Apple product is always dicey.

I love the size of my (now old) iPad Mini. I love the size of my (now old) iPhone SE. Both need replacing. The only way I would consider buying a Fold would be as a decent way to feed two birds with one chunk of suet. But the Fold would still need to be significantly below $2,000 because the cost of convenience does have a limit – even for a fanboy.

Does not matter. I will stick to the non fold version. I know after a few weeks I will not open the phone that often. I don’t see the benefit of having a bigger screen inside. Maybe watching content but its probably the same as watching on the Pro Max but with black bezels on top and bottom. Other than that its a gimmick. For task that need a bigger display I use my Macbook anyway.

Apple wont make its first foldable phone a consumer device, it will place it above pro which will make it above pro prices. How? Because it will have an m5e chip in it. It runs low power when portable and full power when plugged in. When plugged in it will run full mac os apps at computer speeds. What if you already own a mac? It will do a special screen sharing where you can move the app to a mac while still running off the phone but you can now control it from your desktop system. They would do this if they were still an innovative company. If we don't get that then it'll be an expensive underpowered ripoff.

I have a feeling that the Fold will actually feature a dock/dex-like mode, to place it above the Pro line. The A20 Pro chip could definitely handle Mac OS. Imagine the unveiling of the fold like: it’s a iPhone and an iPad mini in one. With a surprise one more thing: it’s also a Mac. lol. One can dream at least.

Just because the parts got cheaper, don’t think for a minute that the product will get cheaper. Tim Cook only sees $.$ and you have a better chance of winning the lottery than Tim passing those savings along to consumers

So it'll be 2000 instead of 2500... don't anyone kid themselves, this phone will NOT be cheap, no foldable phone is really.
Maybe but it’s not in their best interests to price it higher than the competition unless it’s truly better or want to risk another Occurrence of what happened with their VR

I just hope it starts at around pro max cost as it wont have 3 cams, face id, camera button mostly gone. even if it has one cam, i'll still buy it.
iPhone air is the preparation and testing apple is doing before foldable.

You DO know this is Apple right? The company which set the £1000 phone price in the market, the company who sold a watch made from a tiny lump of gold for £12,000 with the exact same mass produced internals as a £400 watch?

Apple does not do price matching with competitors nor are they known to.

Cheaper for Apple to manufacture implies more profit for Apple. Don’t think customers are going to benefit. Starting price will most likely be $1999.

Would be un-Apple to do, but it's also clear the high price of other folding phones is not really due to manufacturing cost, but just novelty/luxury pricing. So, in principle it's possible for them to get much closer to previous iPhone pricing.

All corporations price their products based what consumers are willing to pay, not necessarily what a product cost to produce. It's the: "Charge with the market will bare" concept.

Why would a corporation even make a product if it doesn't have a 'reasonable' profit margin. With 'reasonable profit margin' being decided by the producer, not the consumer. (You don't want to know what a $4.48 box of corn flakes cost to produce. You'd be shocked. ;)

It's half price, because it breaks in two right after the warrenty period.

oops: spoiled the easter egg.
