Anyone notice that the requirements to stream the event now requires iOS 10?
There's absolutely no reason for that except to lay on the pain. On well, that's 30,000,000 iOS devices that have now been blocked. Good job Apple!

There are ways around Apple's artificial restrictions such as watching with VLC app and .m3u8 link. Would be nice though if Apple use universal YouTube, Twitch.tv, etc.

well I doubt it know
@Apple just sent me a reply telling me "thanks for the like" see you tomorrow etc.
But this tweet is not showing on their account neither
It keeps saying Apple no tweets
How do you explain that?

They still have access to the ad and can see who likes or comments on it. It's similar to how Facebook or Instagram so ads.

except that on fb your promoted should be real posts
so the whole thread including the original tweet and its sub replies is hidden?

No. Yearly cycles are just fine. I would imagine folks update their phones on a 2 year cadence so while some may upgrade this year, others will be waiting until next year. They are innovating just fine in my opinion as I don't think folks like you truly understand the term. If you owned your own business, I think you would see how hard it is to innovate every year or so. It's just not realistic and you can't name one company in the world that innovates every other year or every 10 years. Go ahead and try, I'll wait.....

I don’t mind the yearly cycle either. If nothing else, their annual cycle gives their competition a heart attack with all the speculation and rushing things out the door.

The annual cycle makes a lot of sense. It allows for regular iterative improvements and also the occasional major upgrade. If one only wants to upgrade every couple years, just tune out until the next time you are wanting to upgrade. Everyone is on their own timetable, and I bet a huge number of iPhone users don’t upgrade even every two years. On rare occasions, I see folks running around on the old 4/4S!

Apple has confirmed that it will live stream its "Gather Round" event on Twitter, in addition to Apple.com as usual.

Just to be clear, MacRumors has confirmed that Apple's promoted tweet refers to an actual live stream of the entire keynote on Twitter, likely complementing tweets and photos of highlights from the event. Twitter users can "like" the tweet to receive keynote-related updates from Apple on event day.

Wednesday will mark the first time Apple live streams an event on Twitter. Apple has been gradually expanding the ways that people can watch its live streams over the past few years, making them viewable in Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge, in addition to its own Safari browser across Mac, iPad, and iPhone.

The keynote can also be live streamed via the Apple Events app on Apple TV. On the fourth-generation Apple TV and newer, the app is available from the tvOS App Store. On the second- and third-generation Apple TV, the app appears on the home screen automatically within close proximity of events.

Apple's keynote begins Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time at Steve Jobs Theater, situated on its Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, California. MacRumors will be providing live coverage of the event beginning around 8:15 a.m. Pacific Time tomorrow, accompanied by live tweets via @MacRumorsLive.

Wayback Timemachine shows square/rectangle avatars in 2010. :D I just picked a random snapshot and looked.

Nabby

Yeah, I did so too over lunch. Guess Macrumors had to fit in with the other lemmings who follow Apple's design leads, for better or worse. :)

There's about the same chance as a round iMac.

Why the false equivalency? There's a major difference between wearing something on a wrist and using a computer at a desk. The rationale behind one has little or no bearing on the other.

Clever, but they did have touchtone phones in 1985, including pushbutton phones which operated on rotary only systems.

I wish, my Series 3 sits in a dresser draw as I type this. It was my first Apple watch got it at Christmas and I wore is for 6 months straight. That said I think it is fugly and I have moved back to analog watches, all of which are round. I thought I would miss all if stuff the watch did for me. Took maybe 3 days to go back to my old ways and honestly I feel better without that extra layer of non-critical notification constantly on my arm.

If and when they make a round one I will consider it.

With that iPhone interface, it seems like it would fit better with a round watch face. Also, I think a round watch would free up a little more space for sensors.

The Twitter app just updated with "Improvements how relevant events and broadcasts appear on top of timeline" Good timing!

They're really opening it up. Usually they only allow keynotes on apple's safari browser only, and on Apple.com only. The live stream coming to twitter is a big change in opening up.

It was just using an Apple video protocol not supported by other browsers. It's now open source and other browsers have adopted it.

The reason for that adoption is that the MPEG-2 patent expired this year. Before February, every developer that implemented HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) was required to pay $0.25 per end-user application in MPEG-2 licensing fees to MPEG LA.

MPEG-2 and its patent's fee structure were created with DVDs in mind, not Internet streaming, so the costs were outrageous for developers.

I always wondered why Apple never bought Twitter. Shazam was a no brainer and I think Twitter is too. They should’ve bought Twitter a long time ago.

I always wondered why Apple didn't use some of its billions to create a Venture Capital department.
