No matter how personalized the Siri answers were, she was a labotimized offering the last several years.

If only Siri actually worked.

Blathering baloney, Batman. Complete nonsense. I have Siri and Alexa sitting right next to me and they both 'work.' Instead of parroting the talking points try using your own mind for once.

I wonder if this limited data approach is why Siri on Apple TV is still not available in 95% of the countries that Apple TV is being sold in.
Seem like both Google and Amazon have figured that people outside the US and UK can speak English.

Siri works, but not at Alexa or Google Assistant level.

People can't understand what it means Apple's care for privacy. I use Siri every day and it's becoming very useful even tough is not perfect, I'm willing to help make her better and stop complaining about it.

You forgot to mention that NONE of the so-called digital assistants are perfect. Most of the negativity surrounding Siri is just typical Apple hatred. Most of the critics on this site here have never used Siri. They just parrot the talking points given to them by their troll masters.

Have you tested them side by side? If so, did you find things that Siri does better? MKBHD has a video comparing Google Assistant with Siri and they aren't that different (other than the fact that he didn't understand that Siri works differently when you have it in your hand versus using "Hey Siri").

I have three Echo Dots around the house. They can't access reminders in iOS, send a text from Messages, set reminders in the iOS Reminders app. Alexa can't control Apple Music on my iPhone. Alexa can't find dog pictures in Photos or on the web. Alexa does some things that Apple can't do, but they have different approaches to what they are trying to accomplish. The big issue for Alexa is that it isn't built into the OS of my phone and watch. It is great for turning on and off things around the house and a few other things, but it isn't on me all the time, which means it is limited compared to Siri.

Also, as I mentioned, Siri has gotten a lot better with HomeKit stuff with iOS 11. It used to have a long delay, so we always used Alexa for turning on and off lights. However, Siri is just as fast at doing those things now, so I use my phone a lot more for those tasks than I used to. Also, Alexa requires awkward skills to tell lights to change colors, while those features are built right into Homekit/Siri.

The big benefit for Alexa isn't really the Assistant tech they are using, though, some of the skills are cool (Plex, J River, SimpleControl...even if they require cumbersome instructions like "Alexa, tell SimpleControl to launch AppleTV in Living Room." ). It is the fact that it is available in a $50 product.

Also I remember when the whole fiasco came out that Apple is recording every wifi and cell tower hit by your phone and Congress had a hearing. During the hearing, Eric Schmidt said just like Apple, we also capture this data. Later he admitted to use that data to sell it.

I doubt very, very seriously that he said they sell personal location data.

More likely he said it was used to serve up localized ads, the same as Apple did for iAds, and same as Apple does currently with Search Ads.

This is what is meant when Apple or Google says they're using our location to "improve services".

It took till iOS 10 to get developers more access to Siri. Don't care about a MKBHD comparison because Siri doesn't integrate as well for my needs as the Google Assistant and Alexa do. Unless Siri integrates better into my lifestyle, it won't be as much value to me. Plus it's a joke right now. Especially if you check out the Siri Fails subreddit.

Except that I have an iPhone 6s, iPad Pro, Macbook Pro, and a OnePlus 3. The google assistant is way better and correctly transcribes my spoken words more often.

I don't care about subreddit fails. I use it every day and it works fine. I have three Echos and I would give them up before I got rid of Siri. They don't travel with you, so they are useless most of the time..unless you are a hermit. The Google Assistant isn't built into iOS, so it also has major disadvantages on the iPhone/iPad/Mac.

Looks like the "Siri is a goddess" folks have come out. You can tell with the "it always works for me" and the "have you really tried it" while ignoring the many of us who have/do.

Chuckle :D
