I believe it is, especially with external optical drives. Prove me wrong with data.

Apple never released an external floppy drive for iMacs. By the time the first iMac came out only with an optical drive, most software was already distributed on optical media. The last external floppy drive that Apple manufactured was for the beige PowerMacs.

Also indicates that Apple is making a lot more money after removing the jack from the phone. The removal of ports from their laptops is not a coincidence. This decisions are mainly about profits.

This is not true.

It's called critical thinking, you should try it.

It doesn't take critical thinking to form a bad conspiracy theory.

apple is the drug dealer and you are the junkies. they know you are hooked and can get away with ripping you off. expect them to keep playing little games like this until it impacts sales rather than boosts them.

to prevent outrage of not allowing battery replacements or sd cards, they spinned it as a benefit: we waterproofed the phone! they also claimed the adapter has better sound quality.

does anyone know what their claimed benefit was of providing only one usbC port?

This is the quintessential person that doesn't get that people can make decisions they don't and some people don't feel ripped off by things they do.

It's amazing to me how easily people are willing to accept convenience over quality. I want quality, and therefore I much prefer a headphone jack because only having BT is inferior. I have some overpriced Beats X and on a scale of one to 10 I give them a 5. They aren't loud enough, and quality over BT is not as good to me. It's a total sacrifice in quality to use them. It is more convenient. Everyone on here acts like you couldn't use wireless headphones when the phone still had a physical jack. It's not one or the other. Apple got rid of it to profiteer due to their acquisition of Beats and because they were releasing Air pods. Totally disgusting and greedy move.

I absolutely hate that ******* dongle. Such a middle finger to their customers. The most innovative tech company couldn't figure out how to keep it, I call BS.

The outcry in this thread is mind numbing. Keep in mind Apple isn't the only phone maker dropping the headphone port, and they won't be the last either.

And last I checked - they seem to still be selling a lot of iPhones huh?

ok smart guy, if you say so. you totally ignored the question there by the way.

They only put one USB C port because they needed it to charge. And so they decided to have the most useful single port. That's it. If they could have designed a wireless charging laptop, they probably would have.

Yes, at least they were replacing something with something better. Not the case losing the headphone jack which provides better sound. People still had the ability to use BT when it did have a jack. They claim it was for waterproofing which was BS. They just wanted to increase wireless headphone sales in this case because they were getting heavily into that business. That's the real reason.

yeah, explain the benefit to users removing all I/O ports? they can do wireless charging. i will tell you why they left one single port though, it's because if they removed all of them, they couldn't sell you the stupid adapter to plug in there to get all your other ports back.

To be fair, with that kind of approach pretty much anything and everything can be dismissed, whether or not there might actually be something to it.

Of course, this is all in the domain of personal, subjective views. With that said, I believe this headphone jack situation is so benign that people are just using it to be negative about change. As I said, that is just my opinion.

I disagree. It has nothing to do with change. Its not like the phone infinitely benefited from the loss of it. My point of contention (like many others) has to do with losing something that was superior. Yes, you can still have wired but now its a further inconvenience due to the dongle.

Any one who says they applaud the removal is a fool. Why? You didn't have to use it if you didn't want to. You always had the ability to use wireless headphones. I would totally concede the point and not complain about the loss of headphone jack if BT was superior, but its not even close. I think BT headphones sound crummy. The reason its all being pushed in that direction is profit. I never complained when they got rid of something to replace it with something better.

In the overall scheme of things something like that is certainly more in the benign territory. However, given the news in the article here it seems like the change was a bit too premature, even if that's where things are ultimately heading down the road.

It's all about making it thinner and lighter ay all costs for the MacBook One. That's it. There's really no deep conspiracy to sell adapters, that's a rounding error to Apple.

True what you say, but i could live the rest of my life off of what they make in adapters in one day

I had bluetooth earphone in the past, but they were messy to setup, they kept disconnecting, had a short range and really bad quality.
I have to say Bluetooth in general, and in particular Apple's version found in W1 has gotten better and better and is now great.
I only seldom listen to music on my iPhone and I prefer my wired headphones for that, but for podcast and phone calls bluetooth is really convenient, good quality, good range and no more cables.
But until Apple can fix their own Bluetooth earpieces' latency, they shall not remove the jack...

Are you suggesting iPhone owners to go and complain in the forums for other smartphones?

Are people buying the adapters just "to be negative about change"?

once upon a time steve jobs tried to prevent people from upgrading their ram to save a few cents on the manufacturing cost of each computer, and it made sure they would become obsolete quicker. one of his engineers went behind his back to make it possible. it's called GREED.
