You just sound like you hate apple. probably because you just cant get your hands on one... maybe you cant afford it... its like the time kids who cant land a date on prom night keep talking about how stupid prom night is... dude, if you cant be a part of something, its ok to watch from far away. dont spoil it for everyone.

Hate Apple? Can't afford a Nissan?

Are you serious?

As for prom, obscure, but hope you enjoy yours, now that more schools are allowing same-sex couples, you should have a super time...

They don't sell iphone4 here for another three weeks, so how should i know? :)

god... you can turn off data roaming since iOS v2.0 or something... its not a BRAND NEW feature of iphone 4. and for your information, iOS4 is different from iphone 4. iOS is the operating system, can be installed in iPhone 3G, and the 3GS. Please educate yourself.

and really, why would you even click on an ad when you are overseas?? and no one is trying to rip you off here, it wont download the video content until you click on the ad.

I personally think the iAd is way superior. not because steve jobs says so. when was the last time, you actually wanted to click on an ad? out of 10 times you open an app that has an iAd, the ad shows up only once. So you have getting an ad free app 9 times out of 10 times you use it. I would simply call you stupid if you bought the very same app for a dollar just because you cant ignore a small ad in the bottom. I wonder what you do when you watch TV, you are forced to watch 5 mins of ads every half hour.

As soon as an iAd pops up im just going to put my iFinger over the bottom left corner. Hopefully it will stop it from coming through.

yes, i am serious...and obscure? no... its very clear...

and what made you even bring up the same sex couple? you are simply getting personal now coz you know everything i said was true.

I understand the point of these ads and it'll be nice for the developers who want to make some money off the apps without having to make them pay apps... but I pay a lot of money already for my iphone, i don't really want somebody making more money off me in other clever ways, just because I am now part of a giant captive audience.

I personally don't like being people and organizations trying to sell me things all the time, American TV, billboards, internet, radio etc. I'd rather my mind didn't have to go to the extra effort of filering out extra rubbish on my phone too.

I already download most TV programmes to avoid the ads, I pay for satellite radio to avoid ads, do i have to switch phones too to avoid ads (I probably won't, I like my iphone too much, but still, F off with your ads)?

they dont pop up until you click on them. they are very similar to the google ads that are presently used in the apps. have you seen them?

I respect your personal opinion. I dont agree with it though, i like ads when they are done right. Have you seen the Nike ads on TV with all the football (soccer) supergods kicking the ball around? The fifa world cup ad was awesome... some ads really have that emotion. It may change some peoples mind, but the point of the ads are to educate the mass of people about their product. Some ads are pointless though.

And you change your phone, but really, in a year, every phone is gonna have ads in it. Its gonna be the new gold mine. Android already has google ads in it. you really cant get away from them completely, just need to train yourself to ignore them, i guess? :p

um... let me introduce you to iOS 4

Arn, didn't that feature exist in like iPhone OS 2?
I know it was in at least OS 3. Then in iOS 4 y ou could turn off cell data all together.

Blu-ray is bad...Flash is bad...admob ads...those are bad too. All media must come from Apple, because they love you, and have your best interests at heart.

Apple's stance on Blu-ray and flash has absolutely nothing to do with the issue at hand. People on these forums don't hate AdMob. They dislike advertisements in general. See the difference? People like you dislike advertisements, and chose to dislike the entire company (i.e. Apple), despite the fact that developers put ads into applications, not Apple.

I honestly don't give a damn who provides ads to me, as long as they aren't intrusive and don't force me out of my application when I accidentally click on them. That's why I don't dislike iAds, but do dislike ads provided by AdMob.

oo.apple.com (oo = opt out)

you must log on to this website from an iOS device (iPhone/iPod touch/iPad) if you don't want Apple to use data from your phone for dedicated Ads. You will still get ads, they just won't be anything specific to your age or location etc...

just FYi for anyone worried about privacy.

thanks for sharing... useful info!

Um...it's called 'selling an app', you know, like actually making money from the sale of a product. If an ap isn't worth buying for $.99, I doubt the value will skyrocket merely by making it free and ad-supported.

Then don't buy any apps. Just use the phone as a phone. Are you even being serious? Ads were always there, they aren't going away and never were. We don't control that sort of thing. You accept these things when you make the purchase or download something. It's not a trick, it's just a new way of looking at ads.

Why don't you go to some of the other mobile phones besides Android and Apple and see what they are charging for apps, it's kind of outrageous. Sorry, I like this model better because I still have the option of NOT CLICKING ON THE AD, and I get to save money.

What I think would be cool if they tried to take ads further, and really gave them that super bowl effect, where you would ask your friends, did you see that ad? or this ad? Like if you clicked a iAd and that dude from the Old Spice commercial popped up and started walking around in your phones home screen zipping in and out of your apps. Something crazy awesome.

Is anyone currently seeing the iAds? I have downloaded 4 iAd supported apps - and not one ad.

developers put ads into applications, not Apple.

Apple doesn't put them in the apps, but they put iAd support in at the system level. And even then, they limit the effectiveness of other ad technologies through the agreements. Apple wants us to watch ads - specifically, their ads - from their approved partners. Ugh.

I think that's why iOS4 was free. So the bitter pill of being exposed to more ads is a little easier to swallow. At least this latest brick in Jobs' walled garden didn't cost me anything.

iAd is the the precursor to "whisper ads." ;)

You aren't being exposed to more ads. I'll say it one more time - you aren't being exposed to more ads. If a formerly free ad-supported (using AdMob) application is now a free ad-supported (using iAds) application, how is that exposing you to more ads?

Of course Apple wants you to watch ads using iAds. So what's new? I'm pretty sure AdMob wanted people to watch ads using their services, too. The fact that it is built into the system is irrelevant when developers still choose to include the ads.

So I want to see the iAds but they aren't working for me. Interestingly I went to that opt-out target iAds site (just to see what it would say) but it keeps telling me that it only works on iOS4 and that my phone wasn't running it.

I have an iPhone 4.

I see both a bad side and good side of this.

the good side

puts quality Apps in the hands of users at less cost or no cost.

makes App development more appealing to the developer

the bad side

constantly annoyed by ads

developers could see it as a way to make more money from making a pay and ad supported app then every developer will jump aboard to get more money flow.

If a formerly free (or pay) app (using no ads) is now a free (or pay) ad-supported app (because because iAd is so easy to implement), then you and I will see more ads.

Apple touts just how easy it is to implement. You'll see it in more and more apps.

Apple has a high cost, high profit device marketed by loss making games and apps. But they don't bear the loss on the apps. Developers do. Hence why iAd is necessary - they are giving them some incentive to try to make money.

I shudder to think about the day that console games and content creation tools become entirely ad driven. We are moving one step closer to Idiocracy.

Ah but that's where the elements of capitalism that have guided the App Store from its inception kick in. Applications that users feel have too many ads will not be downloaded or used as often, and developers will adjust accordingly. Developers are not stupid enough to flood their applications with ads, only to lower the amount of individuals buying/downloading their application. Customers guide developers with their wallets.

I hope you're right, but trends in advertising show it going everywhere. People can only vote with their wallet when there is a choice. There isn't going to be much of a choice if Apple keeps pushing like they do.

There will always be a choice, as long as people aren't forced to buy applications. Developers seeking ads in their applications have not had a hard time doing to in the past years before iAds. Traditionally, paid applications have not included ads like their free counterparts. I don't see this changing because of the introduction of iAds.

SJ has become so disillusioned that he thinks that ads are a feature, well they aren't. They are annoying and you can argue this or that in favor of the ads but at the end of the day YOU have to watch them too. I say "YOU" to all the folks on here that are defending commercials. They should just come out with a device called iPad 2012 that fits in your pocket and shows you ads all day, nothing but ads. That would make the fanboys happy.

That's pretty cool actually. Don't mind it all, just as long as they stay on free or .99 apps.
