I think people are really blowing this out of proportion.
I got prompted to log in again on settings on my Mac and iPhone. And then it hangs.Apple ID page (in Settings) is also not loading for me, resulting in “error communicating with the server” and family sharing information not being available and greyed out.
I said I was reconsidering switching my email provider, not that the world was ending. Turns you it might be you who's blowing things out of proportion. That's always the case here. Holy smokes... a service provider had a temporary outage!!! The sky is falling!
Expecting 100% perfection 100% of the time... maybe on Planet Ork.

I know, you were responding to the post that was responding to me. Context and all that.I wasn't responding to you.
Still... in general, it's the usual chorus here any time there's a tiny hiccup with respect to Apple. Going back years.
Same here. It shows some weird error message. Either as the dude above or sometimes that I need to update the OS to access to the recovery contactI got prompted to log in again on settings on my Mac and iPhone. And then it hangs.

Email can be pretty important, so I think it's fair to question why a multi-trillion dollar company is having unexpected outages.
You're blowing things out of proportion again.Let me know when you find an internet/email provider that offers 100% perfect service 100% of the time.
I've yet to find that level of perfection. Other than the effects of gravity while on or near Planet Earth.
It’s hard to know for sure what all’s being filtered, but I know they’ve filtered email verification or welcome emails from sites where I use hide my email. It’s happened a few times now across various sites. What sort of emails have you been missing? Is there any discernible pattern that you can see (from a certain provider, from new contacts, attachments, etc)?
You're blowing things out of proportion again.
I never said I expect "100% perfection 100% of the time", that's your own made up bar to clear. I just see frequent reports of Apple service outages so I'm hesitant to make the switch, and when outages happen I'm curious to know why. Is it regularly scheduled maintenance? Is it catastrophic failure of a data centre? Is it something local to my region that I should expect to remain common? These seem like fair things to wonder, but I guess to a true-believer any doubt is seen as heresy.Nope.
I just know to not expect 100% perfection 100% of the time. And make a big deal out of something that doesn’t hit that level.
Stuff happens. Not a biggie. At least for me, anyway.
Had similar on Sunday afternoon, UK time. iCloud logged out and wanted my password but when I entered it got the message "Apple ID is not active". This also took out linked Apps that logged in using Apple ID which was a pain as I was on a long car journey, where I use Tom Tom Go sat Nav via Carplay. It affected Family sharing apps as well. Nothing on the Apple status so I assumed a possible security issue and Apple had locked my ID down so booked a support call (the only option for this issue) for Monday. Overnight the issue resolved itself.so, this happened.
only this past Sunday.
at about 23:50 (pm), Sunday night Japan time (depending on where you are in the USA this is Sunday morning in the USA), iCloud.com accounts that are based in Japan and use *@icloud.,com as the account ID, became unusable for certain services. but not all services.
the way you found out that you were affected was you would get a screen that asked for your account ID password.
after you entered your password a few times, users got a screen that said (translating from Japanese): This account does not exist.
can you imagine what that feels like at 10 minutes to midnight on Sunday, thinking that your account had been hacked? taken over by some criminals?
the first thing i did was check the apple support page, and everything was showing green. hmmm. more panic.
next i checked Macrumors but it happening in Japan made me think that it wouldn't be a big enough issue for USA-centric Macrumors. and there were no posts about.
so i began to check the net for comments.
and one by one, starting with Twitter users i saw this was happening to everyone (?) in Japan who had accounts that used iCloud.com as the main ID.
come Monday morning, still could not use certain services. still got the alarming screen "This account does not exist".
but by this time it was clear that it was widespread. so i breathed a sigh of relief.
but no one was posting anything real concrete about how to get the problem resolved.
until i saw one guy who posted he talked with apple support, and he mentioned that after apple worked with him on the phone so that he could "prove" that he was the account holder (they asked him what devices he had with him; asked him to move to certain screens on his iPhone, etc), they finally told him that apple would reset his account and that it might take up to 24 hours for that to happen.
so i called apple support as well, got the same kind of help, and was told my account would be restored within 24 hours.
it actually was restored within 3 hours of that call.
on my side, when it became usable again, i didn't have to even enter any password again. that prompt just sort of went away by itself.
it was weird because although iCloud.com mail was unusable (send and receive), Messages was still usable.
and Face Time audio was usable. but Find My was not usable.
however, from this thread, its clear that what happened in Japan is different from what just happened in the USA.
users in Japan who were affected by this problem needed to actually call apple support to get the problem resolved.
