Yea... wives checking husbands' email and short messages, Ashley Madison being hacked, Find My Friends apps... modern technology has made being a lying and cheating ****** without morals and conscience really really difficult!

Not such a big issue for me, as I actually love my wife, but I am kinda odd, apparently...

Your problem is that you're not an emotional child. Grow down! LOL.

How can I change to km? It is in miles on the website version... Not everybody is American and uses imperial sizes...

Is it possible to use a different Apple ID in the Find my Friends App than in the iCloud settings? Now it's tied together for some reason...

I share location permanently with my 5 closest friends; people I'm not gonna be lying to about my location. If you're worried about sneaky wives/partners, that's no one's problem but your own.

Also is this the first instance of Apple Maps in web form?

I'd actually like to give my location to my friends, but nobody uses this. It's one of those things that some people maybe would want, but they don't bother setting it up, kinda like Apple Pay.

Super useful if you want to know a rough ETA for other people. IE, you're expecting someone at your house and want an ETA. But they're driving, so they shouldn't be using their phone to tell you. But if Find My Friends is set up, you just glance at that and you know where they are, so you know about how long until they reach you.
Yeah, people always text me while I'm driving to ask where I am. Uh, I'm driving, so I can't answer. Problem is they aren't going to open Find My Friends to look for me; I wish they would.

I wonder if this will lead to an eventual online maps. I get that they're pretty much reusing "find your iPhone" but rather than your devices, it's your friends/family devices. I'd like to believe that maps will even find it's way but more importantly, iMessage please!

I use it quite a bit with the family and girlfriend.

"Find My Friends" may be a bit of a misnomer. It's more "notify me when so and so leaves work so I can start dinner". It's certainly not something I use with any acquaintances.

ah cool, i didnt even know it could do that. checked it out...thanks

I want to know where everybody else is...but don't want anyone to know where I am. That would be optimal...

Same thought here. I know exactly 0 people that use of it, even though the majority of people I know have iPhones.
And seems like various others use it, even just going by quite a few replies in this small thread.

Do people use Find My Friends? I find it too creepy that my friends can look me up to see where ever I am!

If you click on "Details" next to a user's name in the iMessage app, you can enable it there -- for 1 hour, until end of day, or indefinitely. So, you have some control over the duration, even if you forget about it.

My wife and I used it yesterday, as I needed to meet her at the airport and she could see when I was about to arrive. And she turned it on for the day, so I could see when she arrived safely at her family's house.

No, we don't leave it enabled all the time But, it's really nice when we want to meet or are traveling alone.

Once you share your location, they can see it by simply tapping the "Details" button in the upper right corner of iMessage screen, next to your contact name.

You can share your location from that screen as well -- either one time, an expiring duration, or indefinitely.

Wife and I use it all the time. I wouldn't be comfortable doing this with friends tho. Wife goes to college 1.2 hours away and this app notifies me when she leaves and allows me to meet her in the driveway every time - great security feature - no more "Where are you? You ok?" Makes for meeting at places at the same time fairly easy to do - esp on her 1.2+ hour drive home from college - say we wanted to meet at Target, I can meet her there within a minute or so of her arriving based on this. Nice to see I can access this on my Macbook now.

Id feel such a creep asking my friends if i could basically track their location...theyll let me know by text or phone if they're on the way...

'Find My Family' I could understand, for kids and such

I also have it set up to always share with and track 3 of my best friends - we do stuff often enough together that it would just be a hassle to have to set this up all the time. Saves having to waste time asking people "Where are you?".
Same here, it is so much better than texting and waiting for a reply for 4 hours only to find that they are at work!

Also, I would REALLY love to see apple add iMessage to the desktop services, several people I know are tied to windows computers at work so they can only respond on iPhone. :(

Because you can already access it via a widget in the Mac OS sidebar or via the messages app if you click contact details on someone you are chatting with.

Thanks for sharing. Didn't know there was a Widget in the sidebar. Just added that. Find it easier to use that than clicking on details in the Messenger App.
