Will use iPad 2 parts (cheaper Cameras and A5).

$299 seems too expensive given the Kindle Fire HD and Nook HD coming in at $199...

Remember this is Apple we are talking about. Generally they can charge more and still remain very competitive.

iPad mini still makes no sense

iPod touch: $299
iPad mini: ???
iPad: $499

The idea of a 7-8 inch tablet selling at more then $350 is laughable and apple releasing a non-retina screen product in a brand new device is also absurd.

Different Usages

I am genuinely curious as to how you will make use of the iPad and the iPad Mini?

I have thoughts of having both, with how the regular iPad is more of a "instead of a laptop" replacement for me (because I use a Mac Mini, the iPad is perfect for a bigger than my phone screen outside of my compyer room), and how the iPad Mini could be super casual / ultimate media remote for the couch.

But I am curious what others think they will do.

The larger iPad is a favorite with the children for games and for me as a basic laptop replacement. I don't think the kids would like to play COD Zombies on the smaller screen. I also like the larger iPad for playing videos at home; reading books with illustrations that have a lot of detail. Typing on the iPad is feasible while it is a serious chore on the iPhone.

I think I would like the smaller unit as a real portable that would fit easily into my compact briefcase for on the road email, web browsing, maps etc. As compact as it is, the full size iPad is, to me, a suitcase item and not a briefcase item. Obviously this is a matter of individual taste. For many, the iPhone would be enough for these purposes. Typing on the mini would be feasible but not as easy as on the full size iPad; but vastly easier than on the iPhone.

For my specific purposes I think a device between the iPhone and the iPad is valuable tool. For that reason I will buy one. It may not be so for others.

Others who do not have an iPad may buy the smaller unit as a more capable device than the Kindle or Nook. The price may be a factor for others.

Obviously Apple is gambling that a lot of people will think as I do. It will be interesting to see what happens.

The Yerba Buena Center already has events booked for the week of the 15th so either:
a) Apple will be using an other venue,
b) Apple is departing from their usual invite/event lead-time schedule
or c) this rumor is false.
I know which one I'd bet on.

I'd like an iPad mini, never found the need for the big one but first I want a NEW iMac. If I have enough $$$ left over then I might spoil myself. It's get a wifi only one and link it to my iPhone if I need to when out. But I'd only be interested in something around $250 or less for 32Gb, which might be a step call given the price of the new iPod Touch 32Gb.

so so soooo not gonna happen

But Then its :apple:

Hope they get it right this time with the Right announcements:rolleyes:

There is a huge market for small tablets out there which Apple has been ignoring. They are joining the party pretty late actually.

I'm sure there's also a small market for huge tablets ... that was fun to read :D.

Got my iPhone 5 and ready to enter the iPad market if they go with this more sensible small option - bring it!

As for retina iMac, I very much doubt it, and see limited utility in it at that size - what would interest me is a 13" retina ... or next year's 15" already :D.

they might use their own venue at 1 Infinite Loop

No, they will still sell out first day.

I could see that, apple brand carries a lot of weight and I think the 7-8 in size is great for reading books and for kids. I'd buy it at $299 IF it has a retina screen, but if it doesn't, I think I'd rather get a different brand for a lot less money.

Still not a believer in the iPad mini.

Really? And here I am, not a believer in people uninterestingly expressing lack of want/need of a product which doesn't suit them, and yet those people are here in disgusting abundance. Go figure.

I want a product like the rumoured iPad Mini so badly I'm actually considering seriously the Kindle Fire over a full sized iPad.

Not happening. We would have seen part leaks.

Hey we got Tim Cook on MacRumors. Awesome! Oh wait, you're not Tim Cook

iPod Touch: $199
iPad mini: $249 - 299
iPad: $499 (but with a storage increase for iPad 4 at the same price)

This isn't an thought out price structure but comon people, think outside the box. Prices can change.

Should just come out on stage and apologize for the disaster that is the iPhone 5.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. See next quote.

Um.....They only broke all previous sales records...We really like our iphone 5...Slimmer, way faster loading apps, call quality is outstanding, ear buds finally fit my ears, LTE is extremely fast surfing the net...Picture quality of the screen is stellar....

....I wonder why there is a delay in iPod touch though

Maybe to coincide with the release of iTunes 11?

Apple is working on an iCommunicator, it will clip on your collar and allows you to make phone calls. It will be a shift in voice communication, using siri to voice control it. The iPhone will lose its voice dialing functions transcending into a larger than iPhone device to carry along as your agenda, office, video conferencing , browsing device. The iphone screen is just too small and not very usefull. The device form factor will be extinct shortly. And gaming will shift into occulus rift headset like devices. No one will play games on flat screens 10 years from now (unless you will be playing retro games) It's time to rethink form factors and make specialist devices for specific functions. The generic pc and laptop form factors are dead, you only don't know it yet.

Quite a visionary statement. If you can implement some of these ideas, there may be a job for you at APPLE. You may be on to something, in that some of these ideas may become a reality. Only time will tell.

Multi-touch Retina iMac running iOS.

Yeah, flat on your desk (horizontal) Touchscreen iMac with SIRI integrated to the MAX! That would be great! Maybe in a few years.
