iTunes a 76MB app, that takes almost 100MB just to launch it? For a "Jukebox" app? It's bloatware to people who actually know a bit or two about computers and software. But hey to each their own.

who gives a crap about the 'figures', it opens in a few seconds, works flawlessly and features pretty much everything you need for the target audience. any product or software has a target audience and a brief to please, iTunes seems to know who it's aimed at and does the job as well or better as its target audience would hope it too. maybe your advanced computer knowledge should be directed at cleaning up your mac. If it's having trouble running iTunes, it must be pretty crappy for getting any work done.

I agree that the size isn't really an issue. But the person you are quoting does have relevant claims.

I may only take a few seconds to load, but clicking to and from different sections within iTunes will reveal its tendancy to be a bit sluggish at times. For something that is just a jukebox, iTunes is growing and growing to be something a whole lot more.

I reckon it's the best eCommerce interface for the everyday user in the world. You can buy your songs, movies and apps. But soon you will get to buy your eBooks and iPad specific apps. Maybe they'll split the apps into two seperate tabs, iPhone & iPad specific, and it won't be a hard jump to put the entire apple store in there too.

iTunes is not iTunes anymore. iStore anyone? I wouldn't mind that, making iTunes a subset of the 'iStore', starting up seperately as needed. I don't always use iTunes store when I use iTunes. For just playing songs, iTunes is a bit bloated. I would like it to run as fast as quick-look preview does. (I love the quick-look in OS X. Best feature ever!)

Getting back on track, imagine how slow the iTunes store would be if was in Flash?!?
