Steve Job's Apple is officially dead...

Yeah it might be a cliche, but apparently nobody gives a **** anymore.. that's true!

What an ugly monstrosity. Like others have said, I had to check the date to be sure it wasn't the first of April.
It's like someone just heat-wrapped a silicon case around some cheap square battery pack.

I guess nobody is responsible for design anymore and the profit margin can justify this business choice.

I bet they won't put "Designed by Apple in California" on the case .... it's sooo sad

This is disgusting...

How can uncle Joni keep up with this crap at Apple. He's one of the most respected designers in the world but what Apple is doing to the iPhone is plain disgusting.
I'll bet you, uncle Joni has probably bitten his desk into two pieces when he saw this case for the first time.

So I guess those protrusions weren't charge and battery level indicators but pass-throughs for the mic and speaker. I guess that makes some sense and explains why it's off center. What's the point of the internal charge indicator? I guess they mean this to be a product that you just take on a business trip or otherwise occasionally use? That back bump is awful. Why not just smooth out the edges more? It also sucks that it can't even recharge the iPhone, even though the article mentioned it having a higher mAh rating than the battery in the 6s. I like that it uses the lightning port to charge, and I like that it shows the battery status (although why not just show it as a percentage above 100% in the status bar?), but that's about all I like. I'm worried that this is a sign that Apple won't be improving battery life any time soon. I mean, why would they when they can just charge people extra for this ugly case?

"it's time Apple acknowledged the lesser battery life of the 4.7 inch iPhone 6s, when in comparison to its 5.5 inch iPhone 6s Plus alternative" what are you talking about - Apple has always clearly stated the battery life of all its products. There is nothing to acknowledge - if you want a phone with longer battery life chose the plus (+) series - if you want a thin and light phone chose the non plus series. I fail to see why this is such an issue??? They are giving us 2 great options.

Why the bump??? Didn't they do super thin battery layers in the new MacBook? Why not do that and make the case thinner and flat?

I just don't get it. This isn't a well thought out product, but the result of the accountants seeing opportunity for quick cash.

Here's one way they could improve upon this design. In the iPhone 7, they could include inductive charging. This would make the battery case shorter, as it wouldn't need to plug into the bottom, and reduce a lot of the ugliness. They could also potentially charge the battery pack in reverse. When the iPhone reaches 100%, it could start charging the case on it. If the iPhone 7 is thin enough with at least the same battery life, a redesigned case like this with smoothed out edges could actually be pretty neat.

"the Smart Battery Case doesn't allow users to choose when the case begins or ends charging, it just starts the moment you plug the iPhone 6s into the case's Lightning adapter"

Apple really believes that we are too dumb to flip a freaking switch.
I for one want to have complete control. I don't want to guess if my battery case still has juice when I truly need it.

It really is nice of Apple to try, but yes, there are better options out there. The title of the thread is the understatement of the century.

Such truth. Steve would've never made a case for a case this . . . . . questionable.

I have a good feeling he would've at the very least, made the case to be one solid battery all around like the Mophie options. The wart in the back is a bit odd and unsettling.
Translation: I don't like this, here's what I would have done instead....just replace "I" with "Steve". The same Steve that approved the hockey puck mouse and an upside down Apple logo when facing outwards (looked really great in all those Sex and the City episodes).

I honestly thought this was an April Fool's joke, only it's not April 1st...

What a ridiculous design... Why not make the battery THINNER and be the whole lenght of the case, giving it the same capacity...

You know, APPLE, you like to make things thin...

I hope at least that the iPhone 7 will have some kind of side pins on the edge or back of the case that can accomodate a battery case without adding extra bulk at the bottom for the connector.

I think I would just pull this off of shelves immediately if I were a higher up at Apple.

If third parties want to make a product like this, they can knock themselves out. This just lowers the value of Apple's brand, to make it an official Apple product.

All those battery cases are retarded. I just have a super ultra mega thin semi transparent case for scratch protection. Thats it. It's 0.2 mm thin.

Form follows function. If there doesn't need to be extra plastic casing, don't include it. The just outlines the shape of the battery, nothing more. I like it.

Yes, because with the iPhone it is: function follows form !

They don't make a very expensive phone 1mm less thin to give us more battery life and instead try to sell us a very ugly and expensive battery case? O MY GOD! Apple is really at the start of the end.
