Reminder: Apple selling this does not mean every single iPhone 17 Air user will be needing this. It's there for people who get enough battery life with its built-in battery, but for those occasions where you think it might not be enough and you might need to top up. I own a 15 Pro with 90% attery health and it lasts me through the day, my sister gas a regular 14 and it lasts here all day. So for people like us, this is great because the big win is it's not a brick. Btw Apple likes selling accessories as they have like 600% margins on them.

lol yeah that's why it doesnt work with any other model other than the air

Apple designed a new MagSafe battery to go along with the super thin iPhone Air, and the accessory is available for purchase as of today.

The iPhone Air MagSafe Battery is priced at $99, and it lists compatibility with just the iPhone Air, so it is not clear if it will work with other iPhone 17 models. It's possible the camera plateau on the Pro models is too large to accommodate the battery. The MagSafe Battery provides up to 12W charging over MagSafe, and 20W when it is connected to the iPhone Air and a power adapter at the same time.

Apple says that the battery is thin, lightweight, and designed to slip into a pocket. It adds up to 65 percent charge to the iPhone Air, "extending battery life further than that of any other iPhone."

The iPhone Air lasts for up to 27 hours when watching videos, and up to 22 hours when streaming video. With the MagSafe Battery, it lasts for up to 40 hours when watching videos, and up to 35 hours when streaming video.

You'll be able to pre-order the iPhone Air on Friday, September 12. It is priced starting at $999 for 256GB storage.

Funny how they designed it not work on the other phones.

No thank you. I can recharge the iPhone Air with my 5,000 mAh Anker Nano power bank with built-in USB Type C charging connector pretty quickly. And that only costs around US$29 from Amazon.

Wait for anker etc to do their own way cheaper versions!

I’m sure the battery life of the air will be great.

However, I am slightly suspicious that it’s the only iPhone 17 model with a battery pack.

I feel kind of underwhelmed by the base-level battery life of the Air. The fact they are marketing a new MagSafe battery pack again as a perfect tandem buy worries me a bit.

But I wonder after I see and feel the true thinness of the Air - my mind will be blown and it will all make sense.

But right now, there are a lot of question marks for me.

According to Apple’s tests it has the same battery life as the 16 Pro.

Some of you guys are really dense. The point of this phone is the light weight and thinness in the pocket, we are at the point where the tech is good enough that it doesn’t compromise performance much by making it thin. I for one am tired carrying the iPhone pro in my pocket especially during the summer with lightweight pants, this would be perfect.

The battery pack is for those occasions like on the plane or hiking where you need the extra juice, as it’s removable you can carry just the air during day to day. How is this setup anywhere close to “just get a pro instead”

This is the phone I been looking for.
Exactly! I've returned two pro max because they are MASSIVE. This is a PERFECT phone for me and will sell like hot cakes!

Even if I had an Air I would probably go third party over this because with a kickstand I can use them as a charging stand and they would charge the phone at a faster speed.

I have some confidence with iPhone Air's battery life. Before S25 Edge launched, everyone said the battery life going to be bad because the thin size and smaller mAh number. But the real product performed quite well and can last a day for many people. So I think iPhoen Air smaller battery may have a chance.

Fun fact. The case on my 15 Pro wont work with a 16 Pro Max because they are different sizes; however, because my case sits almost flush with the camerbump the 17 Air's battery pack is compatible with my 15 Pro.

Does anyone know how much the battery pack weighs? It's not written on the store page for me.

I want to know this too!

The Air weighs 165 grams and the Pro Max weighs 233 grams. If the battery pack is close to 68 grams, then even with the pack on, your worst case scenario on days where you need the battery is about the same weight as the Pro Max, which would be great.

Unfortunately, I’m guessing the weight will be around 110 grams (it’s 3149 mAh, and an Otterbox 3000 mAh MagSafe battery is 106 grams), making the overall phone plus pack ~40 grams MORE than a Pro Max, so if you plan to use the pack often, might as well just get the Pro Max and have a lighter overall package.

What the page is saying is to use the iPhone's USB port to charge other devices, not the battery pack itself. It can export the power from the external pack to the iPhone and then to another device.
Actually looks like there's a USB-C port, in MrWhoseTheBoss's video on the 17, he has the pack and there's clearly a port on the bottom. So this one does basically what the original Magsafe battery did, but with USB-C it can also charge other things, while Lightning could not charge other things.
