I think there are better games on iPhone OS than other portable consoles! And sure your "delivers close to the experience on the other gaming platforms" are pure crap.
As a gaming platform, and it isn't one, iPhone OS is cool!

And I think you don't have a f***ing clue on games. Sorry for the rude statement, but saying my argument was crap isn't sophisticated either.

Not only, that you have 30 million Nintendo DS sold in Japan alone, there are several multi-million selling gaming titles there.

If Apple should ever offer real download statistics on REAL GAMES, like the CoD franchise, Need for Speed franchise or Metal Gear Solid franchise, we may start talking again.

Up until then I guess that the billions of downloaded apps consist of mainly pure and utter convenience stuff. But maybe Arn and the guys from TouchArcade can enlighten us, which is the best selling REAL GAME on iPhone OS and how many copies it sold.

But, yeah, drink some of that "iPhone OS is the biggest mobile gaming platform in the world"-Kool Aid, Phil and Steve started to offer last year!

So, I am to take by Steve's comment "that if you see task manager, you blew it" that he blew it with OSX because there is a task manager.

I would not be surprised to see a few 3rd party Task Manager apps in the app store; since by default Android doesn't include it and more advance users like the fact they can shut a program down when needed, instead of having the OS close the app when needed.

No. You're to take from it that an embedded OS running on a smart phone showing a Task Manager means your UI paradigm is blown. Your smart phone isn't your Hub.

Your laptop, desktop, workstation, server and more are your Hub where the bulk of your resources should reside and your thin client no matter how rich and functional it can become is still a thin client next to the thick client being your Hub.

The alternative you propose is the following: You don't want to view ads, and you don't want to pay the asking price for an app. It's not even feasible because a developer isn't going to work for free (unless they are awesome like that).

That's not the alternative I proposed.

Darn, no multitasking on my 2nd gen Touch...

Oh well. Hopefully we'll see a Verizon iPhone this summer and I'll get all the new features that way.

After sifting through 37 pages of this thread, I am seeing a few things. There are some people here who say "My Droid is better", "My Pre is better", "My Nexus One is better". These people clearly do not own an iPhone and are looking for justification in a Mac forum about their choice of phone. Or they are former iPhone owners regretting they moved once 4.0 was previewed today. Go back to enjoying your non-iPhone product and leave the people who own one to discuss the upcoming 4.0 software.

Funny stuff.

Haha! Jeeps!! Brilliant!
Dude, if you wanna obsess about a friggin jeep in your spare time then knock yourself out. Just don't on here thinking that it means you lead an interesting life.
Haha! Keep up the good work there lil jeep-freak

this is the exact type of mature response that one would expect from someone who attempts to use the term "fanboy" as an insult. you are an embarrassment - i feel sorry for you. find somewhere else to troll...

I don't get it. If I had a Droid, Pre or Nexus One and was in love with it I wouldn't care what Apple released in its 4.0 OS. If someone is working for you, why look elsewhere? It's usually only when you are unhappy with what you have that you start looking at what else there is to offer.

Or is it just pointless trolling?

You are simply not getting it at all. If an app has a need to call the API to allow backgrounding and is approved to background because notification does not fulfill that need, it will keep on running until such time that the OS either needs to free up resources or it no longer is required to run. It can close when the user signs out of the service so that app can be closed by the OS automatically when you go back to the home screen because the need to keep it open is now gone.

Have you never heard of the KISS principle? What is so damn difficult about this concept that you cannot understand? Apple does not want to saddle users of a "Phone" with the responsibility for task management. It is such an elegant solution to the problem.

People are idiots. For one you can quit apps, just click and hold till it jiggles in the multi-task window, then click the red X.

Second:
Don't like the iPhone, don't use it
Don't like 4.0 don't download it
Don't like adds, don't be so damn cheap.
Don't like apple, don't buy their stuff
Don't like the iPad, don't use one
Don't know WTF your talking about, don't open your mouth.

It's amazing how apple delivers what users want and they bitch. Just because the damn thing doesn't make breakfast or cure cancer doesn't mean it's so bad.

Edit: nothing against aristotle, just the idiot he responded too.

I don't use ad-supported apps, so I guess I'm free to complain.

Sure.. and when those free and .99 cent apps start costing more, I am sure you will complain some more ;) Developers need to make a profit, and this is an innovative way of doing it.

Trolls that own Apple products are not just trolls, they're *confused* trolls.

Yo Apple, I'm really happy for you, I own lotsa Apple products and Imma let you finish, but Windows/Android/Zune/Windows 7 Phone Series/Dell/Droid/Courier/Blackberry/Kindle/Slate/Nexus One are the best products of all time! OF ALL TIME!

(Sums up much of the "commentary" these days on the MacRumors Forums.)

Why did Steve stop in the middle of demoing folders to show how to change wallpapers when you can already change wallpapers in the current iphone OS?

When I am using RunKeeper or Nike+ and the phone rings, can I answer it, talk and have the application still run?

It is so annoying how it stops. I mean, what if you are walking and want to talk while having the app keep track of your distance???

You will be able to keep RunKeeper and Nike+ running in the background, while answering or making a call with iPhone OS 4, with the additional benefit of not running down your battery, or bogging down your system. :)

Sorry Droid, but does is rapidly becoming the new doesn't.

Jason Chen:
Q: Are there any plans for you to run unsigned applications, like on Android?
A: There is a porn store for Android to go to. You can download them, your kids can download them. That’s a place we don’t want to go. We’re not going to go there.

no iPornstore? :(

We already have this via iDisk. Or did you mean something different?

I was thinking cloud storage for iTunes music/movies. This would solve any capacity issues. But it doesn't look like it's in 4.0. Since apple bought lala online streaming service it'll probably happen in the futture.

search

so in the presentation unfortunately there was no mention of a better search
damn

this sucks

i have +1000 contact in my address book
i need to be able to search store, people by any field (job , note, department, phone number, etc)
how in the hell apple still doesnt get it that this is a critical feature for people that work?

i am so angry
and no i dont want to do it with a different app

damn i m gonna drop my iphone and buy a droid tomorrow

lol
never
still angry though

1. How am I going to sell my iPod touch 1st gen now? Knowing it can't upgrade to 4.0, nobody will buy it.

2. Why must we wait so long for the iPad version?

1. How am I going to sell my iPod touch 1st gen now? Knowing it can't upgrade to 4.0, nobody will buy it.

Ummm...sell it right now? Only people who closely follow the tech industry and Apple products are going to know. The 13 year-old girl you sell it to won't know and besides, she likely won't even care.

Don't like adds, don't be so damn cheap.

That's perfectly fine. But, I just don't want these fancy adds showing up in an app I paid $5.99 for 'cause the developer is feeling greedy. Anyways, if I am going to pick an add, I'd rather have a banner instead of a add that you click on and it plays a movie. That's going to use up too many resources.
