Our 3 year old iphone SE (originals) have really poor battery life. This is especially true of one of them that goes to work in a cinder block building and has to switch to wifi cell via Verizon. iOS 13 has been a mess for that.

I’m waiting to see if the 5.4” phone works well and is around $400.

It is a great phone, but I think the true key to the SE’s success is the price point. It’s ‘a lot of phone’ for ~$399 and it’s affordable enough Where consumers can pay full cash price versus financing it as well.

the true key to the SE success is TouchID😁

I was planning on upgrading from my 6S to one of the 12 models, but if it turns out in the first few months that there are too many compromises (small battery/5G early adopter issues) I will probably just upgrade to an SE.

I moved from an 11 to an SE (got it for $200 off and sold the 11, so I made some money back). I work in healthcare and have worn a mask all-day for years, so I didn't care for FaceID...and REALLY wanted to move back to TouchID. I like the smaller size, as well.

I don't game or watch much video on my mobile; it's a great phone!

Lol. 6S is on its last legs on updated iOS. Yes, same form factor, display, similar camera. That's why the price is lower. What don't you get?

Last legs would mean no more iOS updates and the device is falling behind in regards to security updates. Until that day comes it's a fully functional device. My air 2 has been on its "last legs" for two years now.

"...after consumers received stimulus checks and retail stores began reopening..."
i thought stimulus checks were for essentials like food, rent, tuition, transportation, etc. - not for new cell phones

Isn't the leftovers? Lmao.... I mean it's basically an iPhone 8.

The guts are more important than the exterior, and those aren't leftovers.

Like any other lump-sum payment, it's for whatever the receiver wants it to be for. Not everyone lost their job, but every tax-payer that makes under $70k got a check.

Do you really need a smartphone if you're stuck inside?
Absolutely. My work is all remote and over video now through at least October. My business line is set up as VOIP and all calls, faxes, texts get routed to my iPhone. I shoot occasional videos for my website and use my iPhone with a tripod and it works perfectly. A landline is utterly useless for me.

My view: Apple has pretty much destroyed the reason for Google Pixel a lineup and companies like Motorola. The SE is so cheap on a two year contract there is virtually no barrier to 80% of the market (except for user preference about screen size or android)

Overall, I am happy with my SE. I have to toggle Airplane mode on and off to get better WiFi/LTE reception when I turn those on in the morning (thinking it might be a bug), but it is a solid phone. Right size, price, and it does everything I need and want.

With faceid you can preauthenticate and you have a fairly good amount of time before the phone times out.

I’m curious how much time to pre authenticate would be allowed in mind:sec? I tried the iPhone X 3 mths after it debuted and after 12 days reverted back to the iPhone 8. After 1 yr I’ve been since then regretting yet happy of my decision (depending on situation/use case/per app).

Not sure exactly, but I think the timeout is in minutes. I've never had Apple Pay timeout when I authenticate as the person in front was leaving.

There is still a pent up demand for an original "SE" size iPhone without a home button and notch.
We're hoping that small iPhone 12 will be it. I've seen the mockups and I'm ready! Also excited to have flat sides again so I can setup a family photo just by putting my phone on a bookshelf.

Is it worth trading in my IPhone xs for the new se? My battery is starting to age a lot. New battery = 200$ (live in scandinavia) i miss a smaler screen, and can count on 1 hand how often i have used the second camera.. 🤔

reset your network settings in device. Heck ensure you have an updated supported SIM card.

I doubt the small battery of the SE will be any improvement to your current situation. You are probably better off waiting for the next iPhone 12 or whatever the next phone model of this size is called.

Why don’t you buy the phone you want? Or are you trying to buy Apples from an empty cart? (pun intended).

In any case, you just bought a phone that’ll last five years. That’s not being a chump lol. That’s less than $7/month. Most pay many multiples of that every month to their carrier.
The phone I want sadly doesn't exist. I'm a fan of smaller phones so my ideal phone would be a 5/SE chassis with full screen display (i.e. similar screen size to current SE in old SE body). I'm also not a big fan of wireless headphones so having a(nother) dongle for an Apple device irks me.

I did the best I could by spending the least money to make it last as long as possible, like you said! In an ideal world I would've voted with my wallet and not bought a phone I didn't want but I caved because my 6S ran like trash.

I’m right there with you... until the end. My 6s is at least as fast as when I bought it. iOS 11 (iirc) gave it a new lease on life, and it’s not slowed down with 12 or 13.

I’m really looking forward to checking out the upcoming 5.4”, since it’ll be physically smaller than the 6s. I think it might be heavier than I’d like though.
