What features don't you like? I mean, they announced so many.

Well, for one, I have NEVER worn a watch in my 55 years on this planet. For another, I can't think of one single feature that this thing might have that wouldn't be a duplicate of a feature that I would have on another device.

Apple will be less cool because of this... embarking on a watch(iWatch) is not a utility market, it's a fashion market... mark my words, this will be a bust.

Steve Jobs would have laughed at this project, and gone straight after an iTV for the next push via Apple.

Only way these things/wearable devices blow up, is if Apple has the software capabilities/limits to make the consumer want it. If A-GPS chips are obsolete and low-powered GPS chips are manufactured by Qualcomm for this, then they have some push... or, if they harness this watch with incredible functionality that some other Apple hardware can't do(even though it assuredly technically can).

And, finally, is if they push this watch towards the health market. Then, there is a chance for this to be a success. But, to the contrary, health market isn't necessarily a cool market, and Apple likes to make cool things. They will really be tip-toeing around the cool factor at Apple for quite some time after this, if it does end up being manufactured.

I think this will be Apple's biggest bust since the last iPod Nano. When touch screens are small... the need for them entirely is not as useful, and just annoying to many as user control is drastically reduced.

If this product does debut in 2014 - it will annoy many early adopters, be cool to some, and dumb to others(aka NOT cool).

Personally, I think it's just rumors... MacRumors.

iHater gonna hate... hahaha

Btw.. that 1m wireless charging gonna blows useless NFC wireless charging. If anyone remember.. Apple patented the 1-3m wireless charging.

To me the Design IS more Important then most of the other features. If it looks great I get one.

Dont worry about design. Ralph Lauren will make it luxurious.

Solar power or kinetic charging, or don't bother. Nobody is going to want to plug in their watch. At the very least, it needs to have a "dock" that looks nice and can sit next to your bed like an alarm clock, charging while you sleep. Battery life needs to be a minimum of 3 days regardless of usage.

That said, unless this watch is incredibly compelling, I probably won't get one. I'm an analog watch kind of guy. Not that I don't support unobtrusive wearable technology, it's just that digital watches, even ones with fancy notifications or what have you, don't compare to a nice classy grand complication.

Now, give me Leela's armband, and then we're talking. I'll still wear an analog watch next to it though :p.

You should have stopped there. This watch is clearly not for you. That's like complaining that a wetsuit is useless, yet you've never swam in the ocean.

Who's complaining? I gave MY opinion. Quit being so damned defensive. If you want to check the time on your watch, iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Mac - Have at it...

MY opinion is that the iWatch will sell because there are enough people like you who will buy anything that Apple makes, like an iWetsuit even if you can't swim and are afraid of the water.

I'm not the one being defensive. I was just saying that your take on a useless device is biased by the fact you would never use it. An opinion should be based on some form of experience.

Oh and complaining was the wrong word to use. I did not mean to say you were complaining about the iWatch. My bad. However, you attempting to personally attack me is very much being defensive.

I agree about a good watch lasting longer than 5 years, but Citizen doesn't fall into the high end category. You can buy a lot of their Eco models on sale for $175 - ~ $500. And I shudder to think what a factory service would be for a Rolex. The iWatch isn't going to be even remotely like a finely crafted watch.

Mine cost around $300.00, by far the most I'd ever spent on a watch (or ever hope to spend). That's a lot considering you can buy a watch that tells perfect time for $20.00, and when the battery goes you can replace the battery for maybe $10.00, or just throw it out and buy another. You could do that a lot of times and still not come close to spending $300.00. People who buy a Rolex do it to impress other people. Cost is no object when that is your goal.

I refuse to even call Apple's forthcoming product the "iWatch." I doubt very much it will be called that, and even if it is, it won't be a just a watch any more than the iPhone is just a phone. I expect the unexpected from Apple. For as long as it has taken for this product to come to market, it sure better be a hell of a lot more than just a watch.

Maybe you need to go back and read my original post. I haven't got a clue what you are talking about.

You should put that on your resume and apply for a job at Apple, but don't quit your current job is my recommendation.

what model do you have?

I wear the Air King which has a 35mm bezel. I didn't realize it when I bought it that it is the smallest Men's watch they made. The newest one, which appears that they changed the name to the Explorer is a 39mm. Still substansially smaller than the 44-46mm Diver watches that people have come to know as Rolex.

For one, it's so cool that you've NEVER worn a watch. For another, I'm sorry you're not creative enough to make a smartwatch.

My kid dropped my Rolex on the ceramic tile and it instantly became a baby rattle. It cost about 250$ to fix it. That one hurt, but it did include a complete interior rebuild.

Side note, I bought my Movado years earlier and that thing is a tank. I have never had a single problem with it, besides replacing the battery.

Why is every picture of a watch set to 10:10

  • Symmetry.
  • It frames the watchmaker's logo.
  • It does not obscure other common items like calendars.

(Timex apparently favors 10:09:36, which puts the second hand out of the way, too.)

Another favorite used to be 8:20 for the same reasons, but supposedly it looked like a frown, so they switched to the upward hands instead.

This. Having something on your wrist can open up a whole world of possibilities. This reminds me of how people claimed that the iPad was simply a larger iPod touch. That notion remains mostly dead.

Please tell me why the iPad is not a larger version of the iPod touch. Besides the larger screen size, what are the other major differences? I have both and am wondering what I am missing. ;)

Apple's 100mAh will last much longer than Samsung's Gear.

I just saw how great my iPhone 5s battery life is...

I charged it on Saturday, then used it like I normally would and I didn't have to charge my 5s again until Thursday night. That's the longest I've ever seen any smartphone lasts. When I used to have a Galaxy S, I had to charge it everyday with the same usage and 4G turned off. With the 5s, my LTE is turned on and I don't need to worry about my phone running out of batteries.

Samsung doesn't do any research. They only push out products just to beat Apple, then once Apple releases a product fully researched and developed, they will simply steal that technology for their own products.

Here is my take on the iWatch:

If Apple releases some form of watch, I believe the watch functionality will be merely to allow people to understand where you wear it. Everyone is familiar with wristwatches. People are not so familiar with wearable computing, however.

So what do you do? Have the device appear as something people understand, while its primary function is carried out.

What is that primary function? I think it will/would be tied to exercise, alerts, and iBeacon. For iBeacon, stores could have displays that adapt to you based on your id. Not everyone carries a phone, not everyone will want intrusions on their phone, but electronic displays that adapt to the viewer would work. Similar types of applications could be found in the home for this, for those seeking a smart home - for example, the watch allows the house to adjust lights and heat based on occupancy.

I like the idea of wireless charging. Hopefully they bring that to the next iPhone, being able to charge it up to a meter away from the "base station" would be very convenient.

Doesn't samsung own the patents to this tech? I might be wrong but I believe they bought the company that invented this last year.

Suppressing involuntary gagging response.

Just so we know, not everyone who lives in Southern California is anywhere close to this pretentious.

He's just being realistic, not pretentious. Clothes do make the man, and many people do choose expensive watches to complete that impression.

Thats probably why you won't see many women wearing the pebble watch either.

You don't want your consumers to have to make the tradeoffs between functions and aesthetics. Apple has traditionally been very good at Nelson the two, so let's hope they can do the same for any future watch product.

You also didn't use an iPhone for your first 50 years on this planet.... & could easily replace its functionality with a laptop, a gps, a dumb phone, & a dslr.

Yet, here you are..... Serving as the perfect example to refute your own point.
