if its disappointing for you, why not hold on a year and get back onto whatever mythical cycles you think exist? Not like they deliberately gimp every other refresh for fun. Tech only moves so fast.
+1. Just overreactions from people.

There is going to be alot of pissed off people that will state things to either attract attention or try to be funny in a forum that they will regret ever saying it. They will threaten to sell their Apple stock or move onto another platform. When a much worthy update for iPhone comes around next year, many of them will come right back. Like waiting another year will take forever.

I am not fanboy of any brand by any means. I generally like them all. But a fanboy to me are people who become customers for life. Take Star Wars for example. I really didn't like the Episode I or II, but the fanboyism in me kept me from not missing out every midnight showing or getting the home video releases on launch day. I kept going back and back just because it is Star Wars. Even after all the complaints, the Blu-ray boxset sold in record numbers. You would think after seeing The Phantom Menace or the lame retouches in ROTJ that they would stop feeding into Lucas' bank account. But they did. Same thing applies to iPhone. Whatever happens, people's fanboyism and familiarity with iOS will keep them coming back for more.

Is there anything about it at least having HSPA+?? Seems investors are also disappointed, stock ramped up to over 380 heading into announcement, then dropped like 10 bucks and floundering around the low 370-375 range when I guess it was only found out there's an iPhone 4s, no matter if this is the 5th gen as most don't understand how Apples gen system works, majority of people just see "iPhone 5" and expect a new phone both internally and externally.

Do I look impressed?

It's not like anyone was expecting an iPhone 5 anyway.

yeah only everyone.

That said, it is rumored that the CDMA phones actually physically had a GSM antenna or at least chip in them. Suggesting that Apple was going to make a single line up that covers both. So perhaps that is what the 4s is. An 8gb single band version of the 4. no other changes.
And then there's an iPhone 5 that may or may not have the same body but also have the A5, etc. It could actually be a "4s" update in the same ilk as the 3g to the 3gs but it will be called the iPhone 5 in keeping with an apparent desire to switch to flat gen numbering.

LOL It won't even matter if there is a iPhone 5 there will be some of you that come back and say how stupid and lame it is. Happens every year no matter how many updates a device gets.

Well, they seemed to think they impressed with the 3Gs and the numbers kinda back it up.. So why not try again?

Yeah why not try again. why not design a phone that is vastly different than the 2 models ago or older phone that their target audience has. Why not pair it with crazy new and advanced software that is way cooler than anything they have done before.

You aren't impressed because you bought an iPhone 4 and this isn't a big enough change for you. That and perhaps because you think specs are all that matters. Interesting thing, that's how a lot of those iPad killers were designed. and what happened to them. Oh yeah, no one was impressed and instead went and got a iPad

10800 yen = $140

Wow that's pretty cheap with contract of course.

That price is part of why I don't think this is THE iPhone. I can't see Apple changing their pricing since it has worked for 4 year all ready. And it's very rare for overseas to have a lower price. Typically due to import taxes etc the price is higher. Making me think this is a higher priced low end phone not a cheaper new one.

So if they do not update the Verizon CDMA phone, the users still WILL NOT be able to talk on the phone & surf/check email, etc?

that's a restriction of CDMA itself, not the iPhone.

Doesn't matter. They need an iPhone 5.

Do they?

how about we do this.

We wait until the end when they don't announce this fabled super great iPhone 5 but rather a 4s in an iPhone 5 coat. And then we see what the sales look like. And when they are, as you think they will be, in the crapper, then you can come back with your 'they should have made a real iPhone 5'

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

And thats why we know man landed on the. This sh..t always leeks outs...

Well, I was wrong to use the words "need to", but more it would have been nice to see them move forward.

They'll sell loads of 3GS,4 and 4S. But its too bad they clearly didn't feel the need move forward in terms of design.

Which is one of the most important features in a phone; next year when the "big" stuff comes out, and later this year, Apple is going to really have to deliver. Of course, they probably will, with a quad core phone that has a bigger and better screen, but until then, we're stuck with the 4S.

I even missed class for the liveblogging, which made no sense, but I did.

Because its not 2009 anymore.

See this response didn't give any further insight. I certainly understand people wanting more than what was presented, but what is missing from the phone other than a redesign for the sake of it. What about the phone screams 2009? Its not over 4" screen?
