I realise the pun has been made before, but it looks more sophisticated as "Sir iVe". Or is that too close to "Sir-i" now? Dang it...

Long live the Queen and all those that sail upon her.
I rather doubt anyone has sailed upon the Queen in quite some time.
But yes, God bless.

. Just because they were born in a certain family makes them above others is ridiculous..
Coming from someone whose country has graced the world with Kennedys, Bushs, Gettys, Rockefellers and the truly adorable  Hilton sisters , this is actually quite funny....

. I wouldn't slag off traditions/achievement awards that the US hand out....it's plain rude and disrespectful no matter what your opinion
Exactly.

Apple's Jonathan Ive Awarded Knighthood

Very well deserved, and is a fine example of Steve Job's good judgement.

Let us hope that whatever his motivation, he continues and is allowed to express his own individuality in the future without Steve.

Happy New Year to all.

I mean I'm sure there are lots of british designers that have carried out far more work than JI and not been recognised. Maybe architects or car designers, (no right now I can't name any but I bet I'm right).

Couldn't agree with you more. I mean what were they thinking choosing to grace Jony Ive with a knighthood before giving one to somebody like Sir Norman Foster?

Asinine comments aside, this thread has gotten really ridiculous, and is probably pushing too many people's "jingoism" buttons on both sides of the argument.

Let's just wish everybody a Happy New Year instead - it's 2012 already (well, it is in the UK at least - you Americans are so behind the times - JOKES!)

I can guess what the majority of comments on a new article
Like this would be. Glad not to be disappointed.

It is shocking to see so much good will and society be where it is. Maybe it is not authentic as the authors portray themselves to be...

How about being that way all the time?

Congrats

When the zombie apocalypse comes you will be so happy when sir johnny rides in with his war horse.

Anyway, congrats sir johnny. Recognition well deserved.

I think some people are getting too bogged down with the title of this award, and forgetting what this news article is actually trying to convey; a great designer is getting some of the highest recognition for his contribution to product design. That is all. I sometimes wonder what the average age on these forums is.

Contrary to popular belief on this thread, a KBE is NOT the highest honour you can receive in the UK honours...

Excuse me, but a rough calculation shows that Sir Norman Foster was knighted 21 years before Jony Ive, so I haven't got a clue what you are moaning about. The "Sir" in the name could be considered a hint.

I'd save up for one of these if I were you... :D

I think your irony filters may need a quick checkup to make sure they're fully functional for 2012.

Congrats, fully deserved.

Nb, it's not just British subjects who can receive knighthoods, honorary knighthoods can be bestowed on just about anybody - bill gates kbe, for example.

Oh dear, ... There was so much violence, death, injustice etc. in the name of knights - I mean look at the history, not all knights were like in the tales about the knights of the round table - mainly there were violence, rape, robberies and things like that ...

I wouldn't be to proud about a Sir - on the other hand moral and thinks like that are old-fashioned, so who cares about a questionable title?

That's it, everyone of even the slightest note seems to get a knighthood. How about Baronet at least?

Since he works he wouldn't qualify for the peerage. But how come we never hear of anyone of note be granted the ranks of Baron, Viscount, Earl or Marquess or Duke. Though to be fair Duke is reserved for members of the Royal Family.

Ummm...YES they do! ... as I've always wanted to be a member of the 'Kardashians'. :D

I'd rather my member be in one of the Kardashians.
