The only iPhone case not rumored to be discontinued by Apple.

Methane is a natural gas. The weather is not decided upon the cow population.
I agree with your other comments but this one is factually incorrect. Cattle ranching has a measurable impact on greenhouse emissions, and it’s pretty big.
I replied to another similar point. Your point is well taken. I, personally, have no real qualms either way, but this move will reduce demand for leather products. Drastically? No. Enough to move the needle? Maybe but probably not. Will this appeal to a sizable chunk of the customer base? Sure.

Perhaps Apple is eying its growing business in india where there is a major portion of the population who would be quite opposed to cow byproduct in their accessories.
The problem I have with Apple’s FineWoven material marketing is that it’s greenwashing.

If they had substituted the leather case for ones made out of a renewable product, that would be great and I’d be all on board.

But instead they’re using a product that’s equally bad for the environment and calling it progress. Recycled plastic is still plastic, that will remain in the environment forever and can only be recycled partially… it will eventually end up in a landfill.

The biggest problem is this does nothing to curb new plastic production, but actually incentivizes it.

Leather and plastic are two sides of the same coin.

It’s so much worse than landfills. Microplastics are in our water, oceans, air, the meat, fruit & vegetables we eat, it’s actually in most people’s bloodstream! 😡

I wonder how this fine woven material wears, is this going to create fine microplastics due to friction with fabric in pockets?

The amount of people getting offended because their cases are no longer made from dead animals is absolutely insane.
It was long overdue that Apple makes a change to vegan leather and I'm so glad they finally did. Go Vegan!
(...ready for your downvotes. I hope my comment offends all of you so much who think killing animals for your damn pleasure is the right thing to do).

Leather is a byproduct of the food industry. This will not reduce the killing of bovines by even one.

That is just completely incorrect

Animals are often killed for their skin/fur and then the some of the animal is possible eaten or wasted

You are intentionally conflating bovine hides which are a byproduct of food production with the skins of other animals (snake skins and other animals farmed for their fur).

not at all. calves are slaughtered specifically for leather and veal is the byproduct.

It's willful ignorance to say that the dead animal on your plate was not tortured on its way there. They're raped, mutilated, held against their will in inhumane conditions, pushed through a slaughterhouse, and then electrocuted or gassed and ultimately dismembered... frequently while still alive.

Having watched the operation of a modern slaughter house while beef, pork, and sheep were processed I can personally assure you that no animals were dismembered while still alive.

having watched the operation of one slaughterhouse you can personally assure us of what does or does not happen in all slaughterhouses?!?

that's quite a feat!

The first two steps in modern laughter houses is first stun the animal, usually with an electric shock, then hang them by their hind legs and slit their throat to drain the blood which goes to a separate processing area. At this point they are beyond all doubt dead. If you doubt they are dead with no blood, the third step removes their head.

Cows and steers, unlike chickens have never been known to run around headless.

Not sure what the point is of your description of the modern mass murder of captive tortured animals
