Awesome, although the IPhone takes great picture, apple is lagging behind in the camera department. With 3 lenses I hope that they use the same setup as the H. Mate 20 Pro - a wideangle lens will be a fantastic and really usefull add-on.

For me personally, a better camera, is about the only reason to upgrade my phone - everything else works just fine and is plenty fast enough. I just hope that apple offer this setup on all their models, and not just the Plus/Max model as the in old days.

I'm kind of freaking out a little, I could have sworn we've had this exact same discussion with the same posts, especially the ones complaining about current low light camera performance and how ugly this render is. Everything looks so familiar almost word for word.:eek: I've never had deja Vu so bad .

Ok, back on topic I welcome a third lens if it's a good wide angle one. I've been wanting one of those since I saw the kinds of situations the LG phones' wide angle lens could help with.

I just don't want an array that hideous. Samsung is about to release phones with three lenses on back and they're inset into the least conspicuous, flattest and most orderly array possible. It looks like business as usual, and not like the phone was set upon by mosquitoes. I refuse to believe Apple is so far gone that they would design anything as gross as that render. Three lenses is welcome functionality. Make it beautiful.

So... nowadays apple is more about "more core's, more RAM's, more camers, more $$" and less about "hey users, what do you want?".

Well, I will keep my iPhone 7 for another year I guess. Still no point of swiching to.

Uninspired rendering, but if they change up the camera hardware, the software needs to be improved as well. I've personally tested the iPhone XS camera against the Pixel 3, and the Pixel is noticeably better, especially in low light. I'll go back to iPhone full time if the camera improves.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The cameras are amazing already. I’d rather see the phone get a little thicker to eliminate the camera bump and add some extra battery life. Triple lens seems like a gimmick to me.
It’s not a gimmick if the photos keep getting better and better in more situations.

The progression of cameras and the real time photo optimization software have been incredible.

Remember, you don’t speak for all users. It’s clear from the camera progression that people want better photos, period.

People don’t want thicker phones with fatter batteries.

In general, Apple will make what people will buy, but users are terrible at knowing what they want.

i actually think the render’s camera bump looks better than the camera bump we have now...

I'm sure there are many users for whom the quality of the camera is very important, and this upgrade might be a big deal. Personally I'm not one of them either. My iPhone 8 is... really good. Fast, perfect size for me, good screen, good camera. Battery life and (sorry, I have to say this) lack of a headphone port are the only downsides for me.

I think Apple is starting to struggle to come up with 'the next big thing'. The iPhone performance and components have improved rapidly over its lifetime; so now a lot of us really don't NEED an upgrade. And it's too expensive a device to buy just on a whim.. I'm not going to buy a second iPhone (when it requires a new sim/contract) so it's little wonder if sales growth is a bit flat.

(psssst... wouldn't it be nice if Apple gave some of this love to the Mac? I'd love to replace my old, slow, un-upgradable iMac, but can't justify money on a new, overpriced, un-upgradable Mac with mostly low-mid end mobile components and tired old designs... Does Apple even have a plan for the Mac any more?)

Should also add the battery hump as built in default. And move the connector to the back-side as well, makes a cleaner look, and can be used as a stand.

and then they wonder why new phone sales are slow...what's the real percentage of users who this will mean anything to? I'm very fortunate to have a good job that allowed me to afford the XS Max but there's still a part of me that thinks I was crazy for buying it. There is no way in hell that I will ever pay a penny more for a phone than I did for the XS Max so for sure with the impact this will have on the end cost to users, I now own the latest model iPhone I will ever have.

yes and no. If the 3rd lens is a wide angle lens, then I'll take it. I've spent some time with LG phones (G6 and G7) and having a wide angle lens for certain shots is pretty awesome. But yes, thicker + more battery would be welcomed for sure.

People are waiting for better camera performance yet (for the most part) are unwilling to work on their photo-making techniques towards making better photographs.

Want better photos? Then work on making better photographs. Relying on gear to produce better photographs is clearly a fools errand.

I think I’ve used the telephoto lens on my 7/8 Plus phones about 3 or 4 times in the 1.5 years that I’ve had them. I guess it was handy those few times.

The tanking sales and forcing users to upgrade at Apple stores in desperation.
You mean the tanking sales at $84B. The second best quarter ever? Yep, only Apple could say their sales are tanking, when they take in a quarter what many companies take in a year. (and to boot have the second best quarter ever)

That is one ugly design. Hard no for me. Maybe Apple needs to design a digital camera and sell that, just get it out of their system once and for all.

It's only a gimmick now because the iPhone doesn't have it yet. You have a lens for each of your situations. I have been using an LG G7 phone with a second wide-angle camera. It's great for the group shots or large landscape. I used the wide-angle camera probably 30% of the time while taking photos on vacation.
  1. Main shooter = Best quality (your go-to camera)
  2. Telephoto = For the time that you can't get closer
  3. Wide-angle = For the time that you can't go far enough

You're referring to the 20% decline in iPhone sales in China due to its recent economic downturn (and other China-US factors) as broad "tanking sales?"

I can't see the words "Razor Blades" without mouthing "Rise up lights"... which is how you say razor blades with an Australian accent.:D

Ah better cameras, Tim Cook's new method of increasing selling price and margins. More and better cameras equals larger pictures and videos equals people buying phones with more storage. Real life difference to users is zero since a photographer can make anything look good and a normal user takes crap pictures no matter how many cameras you give them

Margins will still be around 38%, like they've been for awhile. And lower than when the previous CEO was in charge.

Instead of more lenses, how about improve the low light picture quality?
Just the other night when I was at the candlelight dinner, the iPhone XS got whipped by the Xperia XZ2 premium in terms of the picture quality.
(Neither activated the flash. It is left at auto.)
