I purchased two of these monitors. My only (and big) gripe is that you can't rotate them vertically.

Now, when I say that you can't rotate them vertically, I don't mean that the monitor base doesn't support rotation (it doesn't). I mean that in the macOS display settings, you cannot change the rotation/orientation for these external monitors. I have both of mine mounted on VESA arms that support rotation, but the macOS software won't give me the option to rotate, no matter what I do. Yes, I've tried opening settings/Display while holding option + command.

Huge bummer, really wanted a long vertical monitor for code.
I saw in another thread that if you install SwitchResX, it gives you the option to rotate the LG 5K display.

What are you guys writing in? Cobol?

I don't want to see any method that has so many lines that is can fill my monitor flipped vertically. :)

I've seen a few guys who swear by this. I prefer multiple panes on a wide monitor for code, even if 2-3 panes point to the same file. I don't even know how I could use a 27" monitor comfortably while vertical.

With that said, workflows are personal.

This reminds me how Apple does not allow comments on its YouTube videos either.

I guess Timmy is afraid that people might be reviewing it wrong.

Which the OP was clearly unaware of at time of purchase(s).

Yes, but if that was important to me, I'd google a solution BEFORE I buy or try to find out from the product specs.

Still, always amazing that people don't google a solution when something annoys them.
Anyway, I hope the person downloads the app I posted.

I tried it , (don't need it) works.

I really love my LG 5K - The only thing (maybe you guys have the same "problem") - when attached to my MacBook Pro 2016, after a few minutes the fan in the macbook is running all the time. Even if there isn't a lot of CPU load.

Anyone else have this problem with the fan?

Yes, my 2015 MBP hooked up via an OWC Thunderbolt 2 dock with an old HP 2335 monitor (DisplayPort to DVI dongle) does the same.

The fact that an item now accepts reviews is front page news? Seriously?
No. It is news because it was previously fairly widely reported that Apple had removed reviews because they were so negative, and this caused outrage directed at Apple. Then it was discovered you were never able to leave reviews to start with and the original report was incorrect. Now apparently you can leave reviews. Make sense?

The options are definitely there. Try holding Cmd+Option instead of just clicking them when opening the Display settings.

I agree. It's nice to see more lines, but 90% of the time I want to see different functions side-by-side, often in the same file. Especially when refactoring, or seeing the constructor and the variables at the same time. I can easily see 60 lines on a 24" 4K display. But I'm addicted to information overload as well. I often have 15 apps open, 50+ tabs in the browser, editing 30+ source files at the same time, 4 copies of Visual Studio, and I need to see as much as possible.

Man I wish, not really. People doing Cobol can make a fortune as consultants. By some estimates there are a 1 billion line of Cobol running banking and other critical financial systems. I have heard of consultants getting $200/hr to take care of this, because all of the original Cobol codes are retiring.

Back to the original subject. I prefer to see 50-60 lines of code at once in each window. And I am not using some small font that strains my eyes.

Interesting... out of curiosity, based on your signature, do you find your 27" 5K iMac can handle that scenario (performance-wise I mean, not screen-size) better than your 15" rMBP, or they are comparable?
