Oh cool, now will it be super easy to use autotuner on everything! We can all sound like robots!

Damn, adding Alchemy for GarageBand is a great move! I don't think there's a free DAW out there that touches GarageBand's features.

Plus Logic Pro X is by far and away the best DAW in my opinion. But even if you disagree with that: no iLok, much cheaper compared to Pro Tools/Cubase, and you're not having to buy a brand-new version every time Apple update their OS. There's enough incentive to give it a reasonable test drive, surely!
Hey, I own both Pro Tools and Cubase and Logic Pro X is by far my favorite.

Does anyone else find it odd that Apple got rid of their pro photo program (Aperture) but continues to develop their pro audio and video tools?

I dunno... I just think photography is important to more people than pro audio.

Or is "Photos" finally a good enough Aperture replacement?
No Photos is not a good alternative, but photographers have many other options, unfortunately all of them aren't as integrated in the Apple system, cost effective or streamlined.

Final Cut, Motion and Logic all fit into the post production model and typically drive sales of hardware within larger organizations as well as solo artists. Aperture was mainly a solo artist thing, didn't mesh with the other three apps and didn't really drive hardware sales in the same way.

Photos with external plugs comes close. I don't know if back and forth with Affinity Photo is working well right now, but this is as good as it comes to aperture workflow.

Really happy about this, and I'm looking forward to seeing how well the GB for iOS and Logic X integration works.

I loved Logic since version 9; certainly a step up from Crashbase Cubase and a far cry from the bottomless well of money that is Pro Tools. But LPX was just another level. Even in the original release with a few hiccups, it was loading projects and plugins much quicker than LP9.

A few years back I bought Logic Studio 8 (with the big black box), I was never able to get into it - so much stuff, steep learning curve etc... I was used to Pro Tools and DP and thought Logic was never going to be for me. Fast forward to oct 2016... I'm so getting tired of Pro Tools bugs (working with video is always a challenge!) and Avid's weird business plan, DP's interface has become a gigantic mess (eventhough I'm using DP since version 2.4), I decided to try Logic again, now at version 10.2.4. It took be about 4 days to get used to its workflow and GUI, solid as a rock, stable, amazing sound palette, ease of use, I am now completely sold to Logic. I still have to work in Pro Tools, but always can't wait to go back to Logic now. I'm in film music, and electronic/EDM, had heard Logic wasn't the best tool for film music, I couldn't disagree more now that I'm comfortable with it. No ilok, no subscription/upgrade/support plan crap, free updates... Apple is doing an amazing job here.

Oh gosh, have they changed the Smart Drums? If so my 3yr old is going to freak out. He loves that, and didn't much care for all the confusion Live Loops brought to the UI.

And yes, you read it right, MacRumors whiners are literally 3yrs old now.

Edit: Unchanged! But the whole thing is much better now. Amazing update actually.

I’m just wondering how much longer Pro Tools can ride the “industry standard” nostalgia. I never hear anything great about it other than you have to use it because, you know, “industry standard”.

And it seems like the long established DAW developers who are seeing their market share slip are reacting by screwing their loyal users with subscription revenue models. Good luck with that. Guess they don't know how competition works.

The best part of Logic X for me is that wonderful HMT tuning setup and the ability to use it as an A/V post machine with FCPX via .XML import/export.

And I'd agree on all that you've written, especially the absurd impossibility of the import/export of .XML import for Pro Tools 12.7. But I have to say that I can edit audio much faster and with more precision using Pro Tools, but I've been using it since v4.3. I encourage everybody to try both and use whatever allows you to create the best music or editing work possible for the short amount of time we are given for production. -If something is working, don't f-up your workflow if you're prolific. I learned that when I stupidly moved away from Opcode's Studio Vision Pro 3.54. That was 20 years ago.

I would like to see Logic (or at least the Alchemy synth) to exist as a generic AU plugin so that I can open it on a remote Mac using Vienna Ensemble Pro. It was a poor choice to discontinue :apple: Logic Node.

PS: Everything on my tagline was composed or cut in Pro Tools.

Only complaint? No reason it can't "work" without the toybar features even in - yes i'm going here - Mountain Lion.
This forced OS update stuff gets really old - esp when everything *works*.

Nice to see them fixing some things instead of just adding more junk, though.

I've literally just switched to Bitwig after growing too frustrated with the bloated Logic interface.. Some much UI lag on the Retina display I felt it was slowing me down... I put up £140 for a BW licence only yesterday, I wish I knew this was coming out I'd have waited to try out the improvements.. I'll grab it anyway I can always sell the BW licence though I don't expect it to be quite as fast...

The Bitwig work flow is rather spectacular allowing you to get ideas down the fastest so fast.

There is no question Logic is a far more mature and stable product.

Agreed every year you have to pay for updates for Cubase pro though is to be expected as they don't have the deep pockets that Apple have and need to sustain their business.

The new Cubase pro is spectacular though. It's stable and smooth. The vstis are so good. Lovely new UI. BUT I am so envious of free updates with logic x and no dongle!

I would have moved to logic ages ago but Cubase always manages to hook me in with new features that make me stay.

If I didn't have to learn from square one how to use logic I may jump ship. But don't think I can be bothered at this point. Though am tempted

Apple today announced major updates for... professional editing software Logic Pro X, introducing a number of new features for its music-related apps.
Logic is not editing software. It is a package of tools which includes MIDI sequencing, multitrack digital audio recording. Effects, software instruments and other components used by musicians and producers to create entire songs. It's akin Pro Tools or Cubase. I think you are confusing this with Final Cut.
Maybe get someone who knows what the heck they are talking about to write your articles?
Apple does not have that many software products in it's portfolio!

It must be a nightmare for Apple developers to maintain both Garageband and Logic. I realise the underlying engines are very similar (the former being a cut down version of Logic), but serious kudos to the team! I'm guessing GarageBand is basically the Logic engine, but with a different UI/Skin, limiting underling features. I get the reason for doing this, but it must slow down development somewhat!

I'll bet the developers are begging the marketing department to allow them merge the applications into a single app (Logic/Logic Pro), which is a single application with the option to add pro features.

I do own both applications - I often prefer knocking things up in Garageband initially and then importing into Logic X when I need to get more control. This could equally be achieved with a single app, but switching into 'Pro' mode.

Anyway, good work Apple. Logic X is looking beautiful and runs great on my MBP Mid-2010! The new flat UI is stunning and the performance seems to have improved from what I can tell do far.

gosh. Need a bit of Love in your life?

Using editor for this software is completely alright. Sound editor is the professional responsible for part of the sound design in a film.

I'm a video editor. So there you go...

That is why I never used ProTools in the first place. Digidesign (Avid) used to force people to buy new hardware with every update by obsoleting the old interfaces. Only recently did they make their hardware "open" and able to work with other software - only because competition was killing them. Now they force a yearly subscription. Screw yourselves, Avid. I don't like the company or the way they do business. I'll write my own software before I ever use one of their products. Logic smokes ProTools anyway in terms of features and stability. It has since 2009.

There is a perpetual license, which doesn't require for you to subscribe to anything.

What do you consider better than ProTools?
