Makes sense, he probably wants to go into design other things besides Apple products. He has the reputation for design and plenty of cash in the bank, which is all the ingredients he needs to start his own company.
Meh. Time for some fresh thinking.
His impact on the company cannot be denied, even in spite of recent years where we've questioned his involvement. I wish him the very best.

If designs and functionality like the new Mac Pro 7,1 is what we'll be seeing from Apple without Jony, it might be a good thing.

Wait, he's still going to have a working relationship with Apple. I don't think much will change.
his designs are probably already baked for the next 2-3 years anyway.
There are so many other people involved in the Apple design. I think it might not even impact them at all. On top of that, he'll still provide his services to them.
MacRumors keeps using a photo of a younger Ive, which influences readers' perceptions. He's getting older and clearly wants to make a fresh start, a new mark, before he no longer can. I wonder if the politics have finally gotten to him?
Apple will be a "primary client", so we will still benefit from his skills and talents, indirectly at least.
I'm eager to learn which company he's starting? Industry design something.
What did you expect with an iPhone that keeps growing in size, weight, and number of cameras?
Hopefully the beginning of the end for recent form over function design choices (e.g butterfly keyboard)
I bet he's going to focus on selling his name/branding now....
In my honest opinion he hasn’t designed anything stunning or original since maybe the lampshade iMac. Some of the iPods were nice. Every thing since has been ‘safe’ or evolutionary.

Jobs era really is over.... or did jobs temper Ive and we’ve had all the issues due to Ive....hmmm interesting times
