Also, where is that new Thunderbolt display?! (Just gonna keep commenting that till it's here)

Probably waiting for someone to build the 5120x2880 27" panel needed for a full HiDPI TBD replacement and invent an interface to drive it.

...or for 4k to evolve beyond what is obviously a horribly kludge of a interface that relies on the OS to 'support' particular brands of monitor.

...or for OS X to support a '4k' DPI setting - somewhere between regular and Retina/HiDPI that gave sensible-sized system fonts and icons on a ~30" UHD display.

...or for Thunderbolt 3 and enough bandwidth to drive a 4k display and the ethernet, USB3 etc. docking functionality and Thunderbolt-through that is the USP of the Thunderbolt Display.

...or for the ~21" UHD panel that would be sensible for a 'Retina iMac' running in HiDPI mode, and a matching ~21" TBD to fulfil the main purpose of the TBD: a premium-priced 'prosumer' accessory for the MacBook Pro.

Or maybe for the world to realise that the only people who need a 4k desktop display right now* are video pros working on better-than-1080p material and (like 1080p before it) its a godawful antigoldilocks format for general computing.

Then maybe they'll be able to produce a 1440p TBD with USB3 without getting shredded by the 4k wannabes.

(*I'm sure higher resolutions will come in time, but the more I read about 4k, the more obvious it is that its not yet fully baked).

It isn't just high demand... It's also a case of under production. They should have stuck with Foxconn and China instead of playing the "patriotic" card.

Because iphones are known for keeping up with demand at launch....

I have ordered three and I have only received one to date . Based on my experience and a quick calculation, since I ordered the last two together on December 20th and they shipped two days apart, they are manufacturing approximately 1 1/2 Mac Pros a day. Plus or minus 1 Mac Pro of course.

The problem is unlike Foxconn in China, you cannot make people work 18 hour days in prison like factories, and hire and fire hundreds ar Will as demand dictates.

Americans get the hour lunch break and the 4 15 minute smoking breaks, the OSHA mandates for safety which also probably lower productivity. And they get off on the weekends.

Just buy a dell workstation ;)

Wish I'd ordered mine quicker now..... ah well. Good things and those who wait I guess.

I wish Apple/Mr. Cook would share some facts about the MacPro.

How many have been sold?
How many have been shipped?
How many have been ordered?
How many is the factory able to produce per day/week/month?

Anything, really.

FAIL

lol

A quick channel check is showing that there are no shortages of parts to build a Hackint0sh. :D

LOL..... "April". Who wants to wait until APRIL?
Until Cook shutters that factory and moves production to China, expect more of the same.

Thank you for your analyse.
Just an update with USB3 would be worth paying $999.

Yup but keep in mind that Apple didn't bring production back for the American workers. Their end game is fully robotic production- they want to keep said robots away from Foxconn, Samsung, and whoever else could turn around and use them to compete with Apple. Apple doesn't care how many Mac Pros get made this quarter- it's the progress towards their true goal that matters.

Glad to hear there is high demand. Seems like an amazing machine and this will at least keep apple interested in the professional side of things for the foreseeable future.

We don't know if it's truly in high demand. Could be manufacturing issues in the U.S. as well. We simply don't know.

Probably just the spike of initial demand.

Actually I think it's the post initial spike that's doing it. I think there were quite a bunch of people like myself that were waiting for some hands on reviews. Many of the news that were trickling in were mostly stellar and reviewers were impressed making more and more people more comfortable pulling the trigger. And just judging by scissors' google doc, it's more popular that people are getting their orders as CTO, which increases the delay. It's definitely everything the cube should have been. People were probably scared off with the price at first, but now see that it's more than worth it. Source? None. Just why I bought it and I'm sure many others are on the same boat.

But it's really a niche product for Apple. How many will they sell in a year compared to MBP and iMacs? They probably sell more iPhones in a week than they will this in a year. It's a low production product with literally no off the shelf parts. I doubt if there are stockpiles of hundreds of thousands of graphics cards, etc.

^ best analysis I've seen so far. They have a controlled environment in the US to perfect robotic production without the tech being duplicated (yet.....Samsung? Lol).

Its an unnecessarily complicated build, of course its hard to manufacture, especially in a brand new facility in North America where Apple hasn't made anything in probably well over a decade.

Unnecessarily complicated? How so?

And WSJ reporting that Andy Rubin is working with Foxconn on robotics...

IMO this would be a poor way to deliver customer service. If the message from the top is, 'eh, they waited this long, they can wait longer,' that speaks volumes to how the company feels about you, it's loyal customer. If anything, production should have been shifted to meet demand for the people who have clearly been waiting a long time for a product that is far from just a unneeded gadget.

Of course you are right but do you see Apple doing much about it? I don't.

Does anyone really know if Intel is shipping these xeons in any significant quantity?

I wish Apple/Mr. Cook would share some facts about the MacPro.

Apple never breaks out numbers on specific mac models.

A quick channel check is showing that there are no shortages of parts to build a Hackint0sh.

I see some of the xeons at various sources but not at the usual places I buy from like newegg yet. Just because you can find one of the chips to buy doesn't mean that Apple is necessarily getting enough to keep up with demand.

100% agreed. I mean, seriously, how many iPhones can they churn out in a day? and it's probably more difficult to build than a Mac Pro.

I don't see it as that difficult to manufacture, didn't the ifixit teardown say it was an easy repair? The outer case is semi-automated from the pressing through to the anodising. The heatsink is a simple extrusion that has to be cut, finished and anodised. The PCBs are probably made in an automated factory in China. The actual assembly done in USA and that is not as difficult as say an iPhone, iPad or even iMac.
My guess is Apple, once again, underestimated demand and playing major catch up. Imagine they can only produce 100 a day and demand is 10,000 a month.....
What we need is an insider in the factory.
