I ordered mine today with some custom stuff like memory and storage. Pick up date at the local Apple Store is May 5.

lol

A quick channel check is showing that there are no shortages of parts to build a Hackint0sh. :D

LOL..... "April". Who wants to wait until APRIL?
Until Cook shutters that factory and moves production to China, expect more of the same.

Absolutely everything suggests you are a troll:

Do you really think anyone takes you seriously this way?

HAS THE PRICE gone DOWN yet??? That is all I really want to know.
The price isn't going down anytime soon. As intelligent analysis at numerous sites such as Ars Technica and AnandTech has shown, the Mac Pro offers plenty of value for what it is. If you don't need Xeon processors or Pro graphics, buy an iMac. Or a Dell. Whatever.

How old are you?

Two points I'm happy to make:

  1. Without a significant update in years, a wait of 6-8 weeks is pawltry.
  2. I'm happy to wait (and pay a bit more) in exchange creating high paying, technical jobs in America where workers are given solid benefits, a living wage, work reasonable hours and don't live in dormitories lined with suicide nets.

:D

It isn't just high demand... It's also a case of under production. They should have stuck with Foxconn and China instead of playing the "patriotic" card.

As a supply chain engineer, I highly doubt it is some sort of mistaken underproduction. Process issues are obviously responsible to some degree, but clearly there is a large amount of pent up demand here. After satisfying this initial peak demand, Apple will be faced with a much lower equilibrium demand quantity. Usually in these situations, it makes more sense to carry a higher inventory rather than have peak production capacity installed. Thus, you would build up inventory before releasing, and maintain the lower, equilibrium capacity.

However, because of whatever design or manufacturing issues Apple ran into, they were very behind schedule. So, in order to make the 2013 cutoff date, they released it somewhat prematurely (from a supply chain perspective) without much built-up inventory. Hence the extraordinarily long lead times.

I ordered my custom build on Jan 10 and my ship month still says February. So it hasn't *always* been a two month wait (unless my ship date slips to March).

Glad to hear there is high demand. Seems like an amazing machine and this will at least keep apple interested in the professional side of things for the foreseeable future.

I don't think as many are manufactured, I highly doubt the demand is higher than iMacs or MacBooks..

wow..apple is really F-KED up.

I guess i'll wait for the next revision. but please, bring in the updated thunderbolt displays as soon as possible

I guess you'll have to wait 3 years for next version.

we need FOXCONN!!!

Hopefully this is due to overwhelming demand and not manufacturing problems. If it's the latter, it's a bad test for US manufacturing.

This is exactly it. Apple probably predetermined (using historical data) how many units they will likely sell in the first year and based their production numbers on that. If you know that in a year you will sell roughly 1 Million units, it doesn't make sense to build a line that can make 200K units per month just to handle the initial demand and then you are left with an under utilized line (or worse over-inventory) once the initial demand is past. You are better off "weathering" the initial surge knowing in the initial few months there will be a back log and eventually over the year inventory will catch up to the demand as the demand drops.

To your point about building up a backlog of product before releasing, that is definitely not Apple's way. They do it a bit for the iPhones and iPads (even then there is minimal inventory compared to initial demand), but for Macs they really have never done this especially when releasing a completely new form factor (look at the wait times for the redesigned iMac in 2009 and 2012 for evidence of this).

When Cook said the new MP would be released "in the fall" I didn't realise he meant 2014, because at this rate that's when they're finally going to have these to buy in the Apple Store.

I know! Grrrrrr....... I thought Tim was Apple's Supply Chain Master? Are these things really harder to make than a MacBookPro that ships in 24 hours?

LOL. No way is this thing in such high demand that a competent manufacturing process would result in an over 2 month delay, even for the standard models.

It's not even 2 months old. It's a great value.

The two video cards cost more than a Mac Pro!

AMD FirePro W9000 6GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express Video Card - $3,400. x 2 = $6800.

Apple Mac Pro - $5,300. + $1300. (64 GB Apple RAM ) = $6600.
Apple Mac Pro - $5,300. + $900. (64 GB OWC RAM) = $6200.
3.5GHz 6-core with 12MB of L3 cache
12GB (3x4GB) of 1866MHz DDR3 ECC
1TB PCIe-based flash storage
Dual AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM each

When did you order yours?

I ordered my custom build on Jan 10 and my ship month still says February. So it hasn't *always* been a two month wait (unless my ship date slips to March).

I am curious to know when others still waiting ordered theirs?

I ordered my custom build on the first day and my order still says February.

I purchased through the Pro Team in Mission Viejo, CA so I don't know exactly what time it was submitted, but is there anyone else out there still waiting who ordered on the first day like I am?

fustrating

I ordered my 8-core / 32GB / 1TB / D500 the morning of the 20th and got an expected ship date of "February"...still waiting.
