Remember what we're told in every other comment on MR: Tim Cook is awful and Apple is doomed. Dooooooooomed!
Exactly. It's not that people are buying Macs; it's that they're available to buy. With the next quarterly report, we'll see if those shipments translated into sales. The fact that it's shipments, not sales is the key
The key to understanding the articleThe key to what? That Apple’s success is an illusion and they are actually failing? That Apple’s success is all smoke and mirrors created by clever marketing?
Can't argue with that. My ninth generation is still doing fine and apparently gets one more update to 26.The base iPad continues to be one of the best values that Apple offers.

It helps that they've made genuinely great computers at somewhat reasonable prices. A $1k windows laptop pales in comparison to an MBA.
Don't forget my beloved M4 Mac Mini!
My favorite Mac since my 2015 15" MBP (also still in use)
Criticizing Apple != Hating AppleExcept John Gruber doesn’t think so anymore.

I was going to say, here's actually why: 16GB base models.Dunno about anyone else but Apple finally bumping base ram to 16 was a big factor for me.

I don't use Windows on a regular basis anymore. What are they (MS) doing to screw it up so badly? I'm not doubting you, simply curious.Once again, Microsoft is Apple's biggest benefactor.
They're screwing up Windows so much that Apple and Linux developers will never cease to thank them enough for it.
Are they? Their Mac contemporaries have been in the trash for a long time. Besides, any x86 machine has many available OSes to install. Also, half a billion Windows machines are about to go in the trash. People are upset.
The computer worlds has moved on from 16GB though. Apple is behind as always. Nowadays, you probably want at least 32GB.Dunno about anyone else but Apple finally bumping base ram to 16 was a big factor for me.
Eh, not really accurate. A 2012 MBP will run macOS 14 without a problem, it's slow with 15. So we're getting close to the point where it's time for Linux on the 2012s.Are they? Their Mac contemporaries have been in the trash for a long time. Besides, any x86 machine has many available OSes to install.
You are incorrect, who ever told you that sold you a bill of goods. The base M4 would struggle to run most modern games unless heavily downgraded and optimized like the ones we have seen. The M4 lacks in the GPU department, something the M5 is rumored to correct.Hardware power is not the problem with gaming on the Mac.
It hasn't been "the issue" for a long long time.
I mean, those are not bad cards. I blame developers and I suspect they have entered the cartel conspiracy with NVIDIA and specifically don’t optimize their games for older hardware. Games have same or worse GFX as the ones released in 2015 but require 10x better CPU and GPU to run, as well as twice more RAM. Doesn’t add upThe M4 is roughly equivalent to an NVIDIA GTX 1650 or RTX 3050 in performance, which is very entry-level for gaming PCs, and it would struggle to even compete with those cards because they have their own dedicated memory, something the M4’s unified memory lacks.
Future looks bright: justAbsolutely. I was so disgusted with Microsoft forcing me to buy a new pc that I instead went out and bought a Mac. No more Windows for me.
I'm sure some of the increase in Mac sales is from current Mac users trying to get ahead of the tariffs, but I'm sure some of the sales are coming from people like me that are abandoning Windows.
