Absolutely. I was so disgusted with Microsoft forcing me to buy a new pc that I instead went out and bought a Mac. No more Windows for me.
I tried going without Windows. It didn't work for me because I enjoy games. I wish Mac managed to get at least 30% market share in the 90s so game developers would make a Mac version of all their games. I think my only hope of breaking free of Windows is Steam OS.

Depends on how much your brother want to spend?
Apple Studio Display are great display but costly, and only in 27" - there's plenty of other displays on the market of many variations. He have to look around.
Regarding the Mac, Apple's choises are wider - from different Mac Mini's to Mac Studio and even more expensive Mac's.
Your brother have to weigh his needs vs. how much he wants to spend.
He doesn't have a problem spending money and he's considered all of those options. Unfortunately, none offers what the iMac does. He used to use separates but moved away from them with the 27" Retina iMac. At some point he'll be forced to buy something along the lines of what you've described but it won't be his preference. It's unfortunate that he has to buy something new (he's current iMac is capable of doing all he needs) but it's annoying that Apple doesn't offer a current, drop in replacement.

How is this any different than Apple dropping support for older Macs?
That was the final straw for me, but not the only reason. It was the reason that finally pushed me over the edge to Mac. Plus, at least with Mac they have some trade in value unlike a windows pc.

I stopped pc gaming about 10 years ago so it wasn’t an issue for me but I totally understand it for you.

Many other better options though - in my opinion - depending on your needs, willingness to spend💰
I wonder how many M3 studio ultras Apple has sold? That is, in terms of "willingness to spend💰"

I use Linux for my server systems but for my desktop it's just not something I can use, primarily due to software application availability. I wish that were not the case. Application availability has improved over the past few decades but it still falls short.

This was me up until a few months ago. When Windows 11 decided I didn't actually need a file manager on my home PC I made the jump to Aurora in a fit of anger.

Turns out software availability isn't all too bad!

Once again, Microsoft is Apple's biggest benefactor.
They're screwing up Windows so much that Apple and Linux developers will never cease to thank them enough for it.

If you want to buy a computer that you use, buy a Mac/linux. If you want to buy a computer that uses you, buy a windows 😂

I recently tried windows after not touching it in 5+ years, I couldn’t believe how bad it was. It seriously felt like it was created to spy on me the entire time. Definitely not the windows I remember from before. Glad to see Mac and Linux getting a lot of love in 2025.

Linux/unbuntu saved my butt a long time ago in university when my computer broke and i couldn’t afford another computer. Someone gave me an OLD laptop. But it didn’t come with an OS on it. I literally couldn’t even afford to buy a copy of windows so I remembered hearing about something called Linux and it was free. Took a USB to someone else’s house that had a working computer, downloaded Ubuntu, installed it at home, and used it for an entire year as my only OS. A small learning curve to understand what does what and what applications mimicked windows/Mac applications, but it was very stable and user friendly. Hope more folks give Linux a try no matter which flavor

They have really done something great since launching M chips for the Mac. I cannot stress this enough, but these machines are genuinely the best Macs I have ever used and owned. They are fantastic.

Really can't agree more ... I've owned about a dozen Macs (and an Apple ][+ before that) and I put my 15" M2 MacBook Air up with the 1GHz TiBook as my two favorite computers of all time.

I know for me and many of my friends we purchased intel Pros and Airs a while ago while still functioning fine the lack of updates is pushing us to update. I am running an Air that is stuck on Big Sur

So I got my use out of it for 27 centsish a day.
