I think it ultimately boils down to one's choice of preferred OS.... and for me it'll never be Windows

Yep, and if I were to stop using macOS (unlikely), it would be Linux.

Windows = a heap of trash thrown together from a mix of DOS 6.22, Win 3.x, Bob, Win 95, XP, Vista, and all the succeeding failures.

FYI, it was the guy before me that woke up this dead thread.

Same here... though if Apple continues on their current path with regard to macOS devices, the 2017 iMac and 2017 MBA that I current have will be my last macOS devices.

Yesterday, I wiped out my Acer Chromebook 14 (all aluminum, w/HD screen) and installed Gallium OS (Linux distro) on it. It works extremely well and could easily be a daily notebook driver.

If you're talking about the out-of-the-box experience, then I agree. But the worse that Microsoft makes Windows 10, the more incentive people have to poke around under the covers and come up with ways to thwart Microsoft's attempt to control everything on the user's system. It is now possible to lock-down and de-bloat Win10 into something that is reminiscent of a more traditional desktop computing experience. And after doing that, Win10 is actually enjoyable to use.

But I agree that isn't something that everyone is able to do and it shouldn't be needed in the first place. But if Linux were not an option for me, I'd have no problem taming Win10 and using that.

True, but your response helps keep it alive so you're not off the hook. :p

If Logic worked on Windows I would switch right away.
Anything to get a laptop without a useless touchbar.
Just make a MBP with 32 Gb ram, the latest processor and the standard ports.
How can it be so hard?

Well, I can't use my MBP without carrying around the USB-hub so.....

Make your Touch Bar a little less useless with this app! I love it! https://pock.pigigaldi.com

I use old and new MacBook Pros at work all the time and my main personal laptop is a Surface Book 2. For me there's no comparison, the Surface Book wins every time. Mac Book Pros have good hardware but OS so does the Surface Book. It's hard to make a direct comparison because the processing intensive software I use (mostly 3d modelling and rendering), has to be done using Windows, and Windows on a Mac is always a dog (even with bootcamp). Even when running apps natively on MacOS (photoshop etc), performance always seems laggy compared to my Surface Book. In terms of usage, the new MacBook Pro keyboard and trackpad in particular feels like a clunky old dinosaur compared to my Surface Book

Maybe you should use the 2018 15" MacBook Pro with 32 gb RAM and Vega 20 GPU.... you'll easily forget about that windows machine..

The fact that this is even being considered is kind of jarring and hilarious at the same time.

More like a kiss on the cheek vs a kick in the groin but I digress.

Full backwards compatibility is why most of the world uses it.

Windows doesn't do anything badly. The last few builds of Windows 10 have been excellent and v1903 (May Update) is brilliant.

It's a little rich for macOS fanatics to criticise Windows when macOS development all but ceased 5 years ago. At most we get a token few features bolted on with each annual refresh but lets not kid ourselves that Apple gives a damn about it. Instead of digging that grave they've realised badly implemented iPad apps will keep it relevant. And it might. Just. Maybe.

Apple, Microsoft and even the extra special Linux; all have their issues.

the thing is Microsoft & Linux environments all cost less... a lot less
and
you can type on the kb

The only ppl I understand less than Apple fanatics are the Windows/Microsoft aficionados.

Lmao right? Other people having different opinions is so, like, ... weird!!!

Agreed, there are important topics about which we can and should discuss, disagree and so forth. What tablet or phone or computer we prefer is hardly one of those. We need to talk about more important things, such as whether to call it "pop" or "soda" or whether or not that ending to Game of Thrones actually deserved the criticism (spoiler: it did).

To all the "pop" people:

Go to the bar and order a "Vodka pop" ... or a "Scotch and pop". See what happens.

Soda... soda soda soda.

Back on topic - I very much look forward to seeing what MS has in store this fall for the next version of the surface book. Tech feels pretty stagnant lately. Love to see some interesting turn of events.

But "soda" soda water. if I asked for a scotch and soda, it would be scotch and soda water, and that's just gross.... well, mixing anything with my scotch is already a crime against humanity :p
