We returned it within 6 hours of use, it's terrible, typical Cook era product a complete downgrade.

First, the price is a joke.. but most Apple consumers seem used to that, the rest.. where to start, oh the one positive, they kept the scissors mechanism (imagine how good butterfly must be), in 6 hours dropped connection twice literally next to the mbp, no ports, ergonomics are not just non-existent, it's plain flat uncomfortable to use, height has zero options. Power lasts if lucky a full month, we've got 5 year old logitech and lenovo wireless mouse/keyboard equipment which can last around 8-9 months of full day use on a couple AA batteries (which are replaceable as well..). Last, after decades of feedback, they didn't even bother to place backlit keys on a dedicated "high end" 130 USD keyboard.

Also you might want to check the feedback on Apple's site.

Wow. I got my iMac in mid-August and haven't had to charge the keyboard yet (I do turn my computer off every night). Only the mouse once. I have the numeric keypad and I love it. Mine does sit flat and I much prefer the keys over my older 2012 iMac keyboard.

I'd buy if so. I wonder if they could also just make the touchbar in addition to the top row of keys. So you could get your special functions and analog touch control AND your physical ESC key if your heart requires it.

That's what they should have done with the MBP.

I have the current version and have had to recharge it exactly once in the two-and-a-half months I've had it. Same for the wireless touchpad that I got with it. Love ’em both. The keyboard's feel, to me, is virtually indistinguishable from the excellent 2008-or-so wired model I had at work years ago — which is to say, great. YMMV, of course.

Wow, I had no idea the latest version of the wireless keyboard with numeric keys was so awful and THAT expensive. The wired versions for $50 were too much, but at least they last awhile. Also, the wired version has saved my butt many times this past year when I needed a wired keyboard after wiping my iMac.

At any rate, I do hope Apple went back to the drawing board for this and if you're going to charge that much make it worth the consumer's while -- Oh, wait...Tim Cook's Apple making it worth that price...probably not.

The wired one is great, we use tons of them daily.

If it doesn't, developers should assume the TouchBar is dead.

I would also LOVE to see a solar panel on these things. I really like the minimal design, but I've been using solar-powered Logitech keyboards for years now, as I got sick of buying AAs.
You know, the keyboard with number pad are actually wired, so I am not sure where you put the AA in it.
On the other hand, the newest wireless ones without the number pad are rechargeable with lightning connection.

apple made such a big deal about the touch bar, and its only available with the MBPs. They need a full-size keyboard.

It doesn't need to be wireless i'd accept a USB C keyboard. I doubt that USB 3.0 can handle the power.

I don’t have an Apple Watch. Not paying $10/month for LTE but not getting one without LTE&battery supporting it. I’m content with my phone.

You don't have to activate LTE on the Apple Watch to use it, it's optional.

I have a feeling it will offer a TB option.
Wasn't sure if you meant Thunderbolt or Touch Bar. I'd probably spring for the latter.

What's a touchbar do that a row of programmable F keys doesn't?
I finally saw the Touch Bar in operation with various apps and I was really impressed at how contextually sensitive it was, shifting to appropriate functions as the app was used. The CMD, OPT and CTRL keys each brought up a different set of functions. The Touch Bar basically allows for more intuitive access to the plethora of app hot keys. Plus, I love that fingerprint reader....

Perhaps the refresh is going to address the warpage issue complaint many have on this keyboard. Apple might have made this keyboard too thin for its own good, which would not surprise me knowing Apple's proclivity for thinness above all else.

The day the macs have face Id is the day I spend too much money on a new Mac.

I hadn't really thought of this till now, but there could be some really great functionality in a FaceID technology on a desktop, especially for those with families. When using the Mac at home I often forget to log out and just let it go to sleep/lock. Then my wife and/or kids often complain.

Imagine if you you implement FaceID and fast user switching such that if you walk up to the computer when it is asleep/locked, it does a FaceID auth attempt. If it detects a face for an account that isn't the current one, it could automatically switch user accounts and log in. Then if that person happens to walk away without logging off, the next person just walks up, wakes the computer, and in seconds are at their desktop. I think in my household that would be a pretty popular feature. It would require the FaceID being able to be configured with multiple faces and each face on a separate account, but on a full blown computer that makes a lot more sense than on a mobile device.

To address your snark, I have an Apple Watch, and that feature is pretty great. But not everyone does, and it isn't for everyone. My wife will never have one, she doesn't care about the technology and hates the way it looks, she wears watches more for the jewelry aspect than the functional, and as far as function only cares about the time. There are a lot of others out there like her in the real world away from tech forums.

My reply to macTW was tongue in cheek. I just couldn't resist. In all honesty, the scenario that you describe would be awesome! It's not something that we'd use in my home unless my dog's wanted access to my computer (which isn't a great idea as they'd just bulk order food online), however in a more typical situation such as yours with multiple (human) users it would work a treat.

I was just having fun and you describe a reason why FaceID on a desktop would be quite a special USP for an iMac to have.

USB C is just a different connector shape.

Anyway, I’d rather have it finally be backlit.
A TB keyboard would also be at least $250. It’s essentially an Apple Watch in terms of hardware.

But I’ll buy a space gray Apple Keyboard in a nanosecond no matter what it is.

No worries! I don’t even have a MacBook new enough for Apple Watch unlock.

But you bring up a more important point... can face ID work with a dog?

I was interested in one of these when they first came out as I have the wired version and the wireless without a keypad is not for me. However, most of the reviews on the UK Apple site say that the current version of this keyboard is almost always bent. Perhaps this update is to make it a bit less cr*p for the money?

It would also be nice if they start shipping a dark version (like the one that will come bundled with iMac Pro).
That's been my experience too. Bent. And two Apple support people who wouldn't believe me that it wasn't bent in an accident. I like the keyboard otherwise.

This takes basically no effort to recharge via lightning cable (included), and the charge lasts a LONG time if my smaller model is any indication. There's also a proper on/off switch so you can make sure it's off and not draining power via Bluetooth.

as I got sick of buying AAs.

You gotta get rechargables, my man. I got tired of buying and putting batteries into landfill, invested modestly in some Eneloop AA and AAAs and a charger years ago, and haven't looked back. They're miles ahead of the older generations of rechargables. Pro tip: the Amazon basics versions are supposedly rebranded Eneloops, work just as well, and are even less expensive.

A other reason could be that it bends. Mine rests in the middle on the table.
You can bend it back -- I did. Put it over your thigh and apply gentle but steady pressure, checking often to make sure you're not overdoing it.

Then get some athletic tape and put a strip at the apex of the old bend. That will help.

Theoretically I think it would. They have discernible eyes, nose, and mouth, and should have unique 3D topologies for their faces...

Will it finally include a backlighting feature? :D
At least now it includes the keypad, the FINALLY listened

Bring wired things when wireless is not required. Batteries are a pain in the back and destroy the environment.
