This is exactly what I was thinking and hopefully what they meant by a "touch screen iMac".

Ker-chink - I couldn't figure why make a touch screen iMac but this makes sense. Oh well, just bought a 27" iMac, I suppose I can still plug in and make shapes?

I want to see Apple dethrone Wacom tablets and Cintiq's, I bet they could put the tech together to do it. The prices for quality tablets are outrageous.

why does at lease one person have to mention kool aid anytime anyone is interested in/excited about an apple product?

At least Im not the only one tired of the catch phrase "Kool Aid"? Also, whenever I see "Fail" I want to puke:eek:. Other then that, this sounds like an interesting product! MC

How the hell are there people wondering why this product exists?

Did you guys seriously not see this video yet?

THAT Is why this product exists. And that is why it will revolutionize computers.

I sincerely hope that for the sake of the future of computer interfaces, that this is how the Magic Trackpad will work...

Sorry but I put windows from different applications next to each other all the time. This is an old concept where the document windows for applications in a single windows only it gets fudged a bit.

Likewise this compound finger movements are a much bigger deal coming from 1 (or "zero" ) button mouses and controls than from those which allowed use of more fingers. Some of the "new" stuff occurs because people can step out of rigid User Interface guidelines that lock down changes as much as allowed for expression of actions.

How many of u think it will have a 5 inch screen on it as well?

Not if it is bluetooth only. Not only the increase in the price with the addition of a 5 inch LCD panel, but there is no external power supply either. You need even more batteries to also power a screen. So you would have to tack the battery cost on top too.

Then if needed to often recharge the bigger batter probably going to need put a USB port on it to get recharge power. Since have to plug it up... what is the point of bluetooth. It has a wire and a socket.

The pictures I've seen ( http://www.engadget.com/photos/apple-magic-trackpad-leak/#3049356 ) looks like what you send a Wacom tablet to the Apple redesign bureau. Strip off the buttons (typical Apple design tactic) , strip off the border around active area ( if no buttons then no need for wider bezel around active area... pay homage to minimialist), make it thin ( stufff the battery into the round element that needed for inclined working surface ... pay homage to form-and-function. Round batteries, round holder+prop ), make it bluetooth only (standard Apple "wires" are evil approach), and make it aluminum... because everything else is aluminmum.

The Magic Mouse is $69. So I imagine this will be higher than the Wacom Bamboo Pen+Touch ( which is $99) , but probably not by too much if they are same size active area.

.
OMG! I got the credit card out and ready. I always wanted one of these. So bad! And it's from Apple and the beautiful mind of Jony I've!:eek::eek:

It looks so elegant. It's modern, yet with a neo-classical flair. Unreal.

Do you believe in magic? I do!:eek::D

I won't be able to sleep tonight!!

Read somewhere that Apple's trackpad can determine up to 11 touchpoints at the same time...

Imagine this the size of their non-numeric keyboard...

The keys are lit up with backlight making the surface alternate when it needs to be used as a keyboard otherwise it would function as a two-handed trackpad (or wide/large one-handed of course).

When the computer is turned off you would essentially have a single slate of aluminum on your desktop making it look really minimalistic and sleek.

Next iteration of it could partially wrap the surface on sphere shaped area... Ergonomics-wise, imagine having a small basketball in your lap. ;)

Have one a 17" Intel MacBook Pro

have u even used a multi touch trackpad before? They scroll really smooth, perfect to surf the web.

I wonder what they will name such a device.

Because Steve Jobs will not let an Intel MacBook Pro have a numeric keypad I use Apple's Al keyboard with numeric keypad or a 3rd party or Apple's older bluetooth keyboards with a numeric keypad. This moves me away from my laptop putting the trackpad above my keyboard. For this reason I use a Kensington Expert Mouse with a scroll ring for my pointing device.

I haven't used the trackpad. You make it sound interesting enough to look for some directions on how to make it do the magic things that you talk about.

It was Apple's choppy implementation of bluetooth mice on a busy Snow Leopard that made me go full-time with the trackpad and now I really like it. On a rare occasion I still have an USB mouse (Logitech) around for longer hours of mouse work.

The sharp edges on my Unibody MBP have since started giving me grief however. If anyone has some advice on that, that doesn't involve overworking your wrists from having them "mid-air" while operating... feel free to send me a link or something. So far I haven't found anything useful on the subject, mostly complaints. My palms will thank you for it.

I really hate that every peripheral that Apple makes nowadays (keyboards and mice, etc) are going wireless with no option of a cable. For a desktop, two wires are not going to increase clutter. But having to buy 4 AA batteries every 2 months is a pain and they're pretty expensive. Not to mention how it's very bad for the environment, so much for "green"! I understand that my phone should be wireless, and that my notebook's mouse should not have a wire either. But desktop peripherals? Why? Having to worry about turning your mouse off, and using it too much, etc... just adds annoyance.

The only time I would accept wireless mice is when the battery would last at least a year with normal usage. My Logitech mouse lasts a year on batteries but the power saving functions add a bit of lag to the cursor movement, a compromise that isn't worth it for me. What happened to precise mice? Back in the days of ball mice, precision was a given and your cursor moved at exactly the same moment your hand did.

I just had a flash of inspiration

Ok, so there are all these rumours about the next Apple TV, right.

Well I was was just looking at the iPhone games section and thinking that the next AppleTV will likely run these games so it'll be a bit of a games console, but then obviously your telly doesn't have a touch interface, and I think it would be a bit much to expect people to have to buy an iPod Touch or an iPhone to interface as a controller for the AppleTV.

So, cut this bluetooth trackpad down to the size of an iPod touch, maybe give it a eInk display so it can display controls, add in the gyroscope and accelerometer and you'd have yourself a cheapish touch based controller for the AppleTV and Apple find themselves with a kick ass games console and media hub device. Ker-ching!
