Longshot, but could the lack of green have to do with green screens, and green not showing in green screen scenarios?

The cheeky use of "peek" instead of "peak" tells me that they're going to preview a future product — a sneak peek of something they're working on. The colorful AR logo Apple created gives that illusion. Perhaps we'll get a preview of the AR glasses? Or perhaps since it's paired with "performance" a look at the future Mac Pro. This would be in addition to the aforementioned products (iPhone SE, iPad Air, 13" MacBook Pro).
Yeah that spelling was jarring when I saw it, it's intentional for sure.

An AR preview would also make sense because they'd need developers onboard to make apps for it so the secret would get out more substantially, they might as well reveal formally a bit of what is to come.

Kinda surprising that in a MacRumors article about an upcoming event, there isn’t even informed speculation about what the title means. Apple always drops subtle (and not so subtle) hints via design and copy about what’s in store. The article plays it so straight, we might as well just read the press release.

Thankfully, Forum users have chimed in with some great theories on what might be revealed. It’s certainly not going to just be run of the mill upgrades, like low-end iPhones and iPads, as the article suggests. An AR/VR preview would be amazing, but that could be reserved for WWDC, so maybe we’ll get a preview of the much anticipated M1Max Mac Pro tower: peek + performance.

Anyway, thanks for the press release, MacRumors.

Apple today announced that its first event of 2022 will take place on Tuesday, March 8. Featuring the tagline "Peek Performance," the event is now featured on Apple's events website, and if you visit the page on an iPhone or iPad, you can see an augmented reality version of the logo Apple created.

Nested Apple icons in shades of yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple are featured in this year's event image, and there is an animated internal effect along with radiating colors along with accompanying music.

Tap on the colorful Apple logo on the page to open Apple's AR viewer, which allows you to scan the area around you and see the animated logo in action. You can also view it in "Object" mode to get a clearer picture of what it looks like.

Apple always creates unique graphics for its events, and each one comes with a morphing augmented reality logo for people to check out.

In addition to adding the Peek Performance event to its webpage, Apple has also uploaded a placeholder video to YouTube, where the event will be livestreamed. People can sign up for reminders to get notified when the event takes place.

Apple's event will kick off at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Tuesday, March 8. In addition to being streamed on YouTube, the event can also be watched through the events webpage and in the Apple TV app. If you're unable to watch, you can tune in to MacRumors on the site or through our MacRumorsLive Twitter account.

Rumors suggest the event will focus on 5G connectivity, with Apple bringing 5G to the iPhone SE and the iPad Air. We're also expecting at least one new Mac, and possibilities include the Mac mini and the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Looks like Apple might revel the AR headset at this event, since "Peek" is in the title

As previously stated, my take was performance refers to “processor”, and peek refers to the m2, in this case, being a preview of the m2 pro, and m2 max, just as the m1 was.

In other words, peek performance refers to a new entry level chip. This is corroborated by rumors of an entry level MacBook Pro.

The a14 was also first released on the iPad Air, and so it would be logical to assume we will also get a “peek” at the future iPhone chip, presumably a15, at this event as well.

How's the koolaid? Apple only allowing this to be viewed on iOS devices will fuel the belief that iOS devices have something special that lets them do AR.
I have an iPad Pro and an iPhone and I couldn't see it on either device. I know for a fact that AR apps work on my iPad Pro (not that I have any use for them), so... WTF ??‍♂️

When AR glasses reaches this level it might be interesting.

When sci-fi shows us dystopian futures loaded with capitalist hellhole holographs jumping and dancing around everywhere, I usually think:

1. Wow, how horrifically overstimulating and obnoxious
and
2. Thank goodness holographs are physically impossible.

And then companies think we're going to CHOOSE to wear displays on our faces so we can be bombarded with MORE crap than we already ARE on a daily basis. In my state (PA), not only are billboards legal along roadways, they also have BRIGHT AND ANIMATED digital billboards along roadways. Forget the future. Laissez-faire capitalism is a NOW dystopia.

People wonder why there's an epidemic of ADHD... couldn't have ANYTHING to do with our toxic culture of DO MORE MORE MORE, NOW NOW NOW, FASTER FASTER FASTER. We can't even have articles that show without a "show more" button on the very article page, and links to other articles in the middle of the article we are trying to read, AND advertising on EVERY GODDAMN part of the page, if we don't have effective content blockers installed.

I totally get that -It's very, very seldom that Apple launches anything truly exciting, in a new product category or a new product altogether that isn't already sold by another brand.

My biggest hope for Apple's 2022 is Apple AR glasses and that it's truly a new, market-leading AR experience.
I don't care that they don't have "truly exciting" products to announce; I'd be happy for them to say "No new features this year. We decided to crack down on performance optimization and bug elimination. See you next time!"

Actually, that WOULD be truly exciting.

But I'm really sick of the million-dollars per minute commercials, and the smarmy self-importance. It's kind of like public masturbation. I know it's always been kinda self-important and smarmy, but it wasn't always laid on so thick; it's gotten worse. I used to enjoy some parts of the events, but now they're sometimes actively uncomfortable to watch. I feel like I'm sitting in the auditorium of a cult.

Also, while they go to great efforts to showcase diversity, they seem to have forgotten that poor people exist and that two entire generations (and many people in mine) will never own their own house. Forget a "smart home" and whatever stupid pipe-dream, pathological-tech automobile they'll eventually try to push on society.

Thank you. No one has been saying apple glass; but I think the ar apple logo makes me think that it will be.

I always looked forward to the Steve Jobs presentations.
I did not like the man as a person, but he definitely had a vision for the computer industry that I could respect, and very good presentation skills. That vision has been subsumed by the very crap he used to rant against. Tonerheads and MBAs.

It's great! That "something special" is the curiosity/imagination/creativity/drive/risk-taking/etc that the other companies, and some people here, don't possess.
At best, this iteration of Apple (the one we've had since 2013) has had about ½ of what the prior iteration demonstrated. It demonstrates 1/16th the effort in refining, optimizing, and testing product before pushing the next buggy revision onto the market.

That this is still quite a bit better than the competition is a depressing fact about the computer industry.

Every event for the past two years has had an AR logo so that’s no indication of an Apple Glass.
“Peek” to me implies “not now”, so it will be a pre-announce of something that will not cannibalize any existing sales.
And since Apple has been pre-announcing most products recently (iPhones, iPads) by several weeks to multiple months (M1 Pro Max or iPad or iPad mini anyone?), I will venture it is a 3-to 6-months peek into a technology that might be delivered to developers at or after WWDC in June but that won’t make it into products for another year after that… so now, yes, we’re back on the Apple Glass trail… though the performance part is leaving me confused!

I think the “peek” has a deeper meaning here, not just giving a sneak peek of the performance of the new iMac or iPad, but more like the device itself being used to “peek”, which means it could be the AR/VR glasses that are being rumored.

The AR logo is not a clue, they’ve been using AR in invites for a couple of years now.

The use of “peek” instead of “peak” implies a preview of something that will be released at a later date. And since the only Macs left to transition are the high end Macs, “performance” would obviously refer to them.

I’m guessing we’ll see new Mac mini and 27” iMac with M1 Pro/Max, and then they’ll talk about the upcoming iMac Pro and Mac Pro with M1 Max Duo/Quad to be released ”later” this year.

Will Apple brand the M1 Pro/Max powered Mac mini & 27" iMac as "Pro"...?

Will there be a larger iMac Pro, a 32" model with dual M1 Max SoCs...?

Will the ASi Mac Pro be a 2019 Mac Pro, just one fan shorter; or will we see the rebirth of the Cube...?

Tune in next Tuesday to find out...!?! ;^p
