I've been saying this in numerous threads and all I've gotten were votes down. We'd all be excited for a redesigned iPhone 5, but, you know, sorry to be a realist:

- Apple's business model is to discount the prior generation iPhones and make them the low-end offering.

Therefore, they will be offering the iPhone 4 as this year's low-end.

- Apple reserves the "S" suffix for internally IMPROVED devices, not for new low end models.

Meaning, people who suggested that the iPhone 4S would be a new low end offering are completely out of their minds. If anything, Apple would have released a new iPhone 5 along with the current iPhone 4 as a low-end model.

- Apple is not good at keeping new products entirely under wraps.

We are a week away. There has been no valid evidence of an iPhone 5.

Bottom line, stop assuming what Apple is going to do without taking their history and currently reality into account. Thank you.

By your logic, the iPhone 4S/5/whatever should've been released in June or July, not October.
You know, because that's what Apple's always done.

As a 3GS owner who missed the iphone 4 train, I really want there to be a redesigned iphone (the "5").

But lets face it, it aint going to happen. John Gruber made some great points against an iPhone 5 on this week's podcast of "The Talk Show". And even though he has no inside knowledge on this one, he has a good track record of predicting Apple's moves.

Arguments in favor of "just" a 4S: small venue for the announcement, strong sales of the iPhone 4, awkward design of the tear drop shape, size of camera light sensor limiting thinness, and no leaked hardware parts at all.

Come on guys, read the writing on the wall. Gruber nailed it. No iPhone 4, only a spec bump. The main event is iOS5 and Assistant, the iPhone 4S is just the vehicle for that.

Some of you people are ridiculous. You're whinging like spoiled children.

Should the next phone only have a better CPU, more RAM, faster GPU, better battery life, and a better camera, not only will you naysayers buy it, I'll bet you'll all line up on day one.

Yet it's still selling like hot cake in my store even if I tell customers that the new iPhone is just weeks away...

Yes, only because it's an iPhone.

If any other smartphone producer (Samsung, Motorola, HTC etc) made the same device it'd be DOA, and a failed product due to the negativity.

Guys. Just wait 5 more days! Thats it! These rumors for iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 have been going back and forth for a long time and it's annoying! Just stop with the rumors and wait for Tuesday. There will be no iPhone 4S. Apple likes to be competitive so there HAS to be an iPhone 5! 

I'm with you Bro! The iPhone 5 is coming!!! And is going to look just like the 4!

So everyone will be right about their predictions.

You guys are actually debating on whether the iPhone would have 5 or 4S. That is hilarious.

Uh, no I am not.

My point was that there is a pattern and this year's offering is not going to be a redesign, next year will. It's an "argument" over that.

I sure can!

..... You just illustrated the pattern. Next will be the iPhone 4S with iPhone 4 as the low-end offering. Neither will be redesigned- iPhone 4 will remain as is for the most part, if not completely. iPhone 4S will receive the internal boosts, worldwide whatever, etc. Next year we will have a redesigned phone. Whether or not it is named "iPhone 5" is anyone's guess- but I am guessing it will not be (iPhone 9, 10, 11? Really?)
Is this seriously that hard?

I already established that I am not a lady, I am a man. You are being juvenile and you are this upset because I have a different opinion than you on a phone?

lol, you must be missing part of your brain, dude.

that's like saying these numbers follow a pattern...

1 ---> 2 ----> 2 and 1/2 ----> 3

i wish i lived in a world where i could make random patterns out of nothing. that'd be nice.

Um, no. Never once did I mention release dates because those have varied in the past. Refreshes have always been erratic with Apple. Come back to me on Tuesday and let me know who is wrong.

As a disgruntle Android user I welcome the 4s.

Me too. Early summer I tried all the different Android phones that ATT offers, the Atrix, the Samsung Infuse, and even bought an unlocked Nexus S, but it was a very painful experience. I decided to keep the Infuse, when in reality I should have kept the Atrix which is a pretty good phone (crappy camera) now that it has Gingerbread. The Infuse is nice, the 4.5in screen is gorgeous, but the resolution is crap, jaggies everywhere. I'm stuck in Froyo, and no expectation as to when I'll get gingerbread on the phone. And lets not get started on battery life. The battery will not last me half a day and the kicker is that it takes FOR EVER to charge the battery. So I've boxed up the phone to sell on Craigs List and back to my iPhone4. I really wanted Android to work, but the iPhone experience on a daily basis is much better experience over all. I do give google props for their map integration - very good app.
At first, I was worried about going back to a smaller screen, but actually the retina display really makes up for the lack of real estate. And IMO the phone just seems a lot more portable than the larger android screens. I could deal with a 4in screen (Atrix and Nexus S) but 4.5 was too much.

I think I'll try windows Phone 7 now that Mango is out, but Android no thanks.

So the huge delay between iphones is likely a slight hardware upgrade in the existing iphone. lol

Actually I'm kind of into it, I like the iphone 4 I think it's awesome I just think it's hilarious that they have had this build up for like 18 months and it turns out it's just a revamped version of the last one they released.

But, what about all this...?

http://www.cultofmac.com/116347/a-m...adically-thinner-teardrop-iphone-5-is-coming/

A million cases for the iPhone 5. So many case manufacturers, even Case-Mate believe it's legit.
If there isn't an iPhone 5 then everybody will be disappointed and the case manufacturers would have lost so much money.. this makes no sense at all.

It could mean that they like everybody else got caught up in the frenzy. I hear someone paid $3000 for a prototype that may not be the final product but they thought it was a good bet. Once one company made a cover then everybody copied it.
That happens when you try to cheat in business. We shall see Tuesday or perhaps even sooner with a really good leak or two.

I love Apple, I love the iPhone. I will buy the new one no matter what. But with that being said...

If the new phone is called 4S with the same form factor as the 4 and slightly upgraded specs (à la 3GS), then I will be disappointed, period.

Mainly I'm tired of having a case on my phone.

While the upgraded internals are obviously appreciated, the design is utterly pedestrian looking. At least the current iPhone 4 has a glass back and in my humble opinion looks better. If true, a stumble for a company that touts design as one of its cornerstones.

OK Guys where is the Sprint part number ?

We know that's coming but we also know a different chipset is required so another part number is needed.

If that's missing but this 4S one is in plain sight I think Apple are taking the piss and have finally figured out how to surprise us by controlled leaking of disinformation

Too bad, this year was all about Software. Still hope it gets at least 3.7" screen.

apparently someone is angry lol

There's more to life than a phone mate, that's all.

The ramp up in these kind of comments has been ten fold in recent weeks, and to be honest, who gives a **** if people are going to buy another phone because the iPhone is no longer for them? These people are attention seekers, nothing more, hoping someone, somewhere gives enough of a **** to try and convince them to stay "loyal" to Apple.

If you don't like something, buy a different product folks. Simples, but don't bleat on and on and on about it like a larger screen and redesign is a matter of life or death. Some people really need some focus and priorities in life.

I think we are missing the forest for the trees and the iPhone 5 guts are right there next to the iPhone 4S body.

just my opinion..
