Buying the keyboard will not install the authentication hardware in your 2017 iMac.
I need to research before I make statements. You sound like you have researched and know that some other hardware other than the keyboard needs to be present in the iMac for Touch ID to work? If so, what is that hardware? Is it not possible that the hardware is in the keyboard and only a software upgrade is needed within the iMac in order for the keyboard Touch ID to work?

The people who want a logo on the front are losers! Who wants to see branding all day? My 27-inch iMac would look much nicer without the logo. Apple makes timeless designs and it’s unnecessary to have two logos on the iMac, like when they had “MacBook” labels under the front bezel.

Do they want it to say iPad Pro around the bezel of their tablets too? Will they forget how affluent they are without the constant in-your-face branding?

So apparently it's considered acceptable on this forum to call people "losers" who disagree with you. Interesting...

She and the other die hard cult followers like Renee Ritchie will probably be dropping their reviews tomorrow or Wednesday. Expect a dramatic clickbaity looking thumbnail from Renee as well. 🤣😀 I still watch their videos from time to time, just not every one.
Well, I watch Luke Miani and EverythingApplePro. EverythingApplePro isn’t that big on unboxing, mainly does rumors, makes his own case, and even tried android before, so he’s not that much of a cult follower. Luke Miami mainly fixes MacBooks.

I just love how people damn near begged Apple to do a redesign of the iMac but then they want it to look like the original design and hate on this one. Some people's lives aren't happy unless they bashing and trashing on Apple. I'm thankful for the video. The new iMac is beautiful.
Agree completely. The only thing that doesn’t feel right to me, silly as it sounds, is the lack of a small Apple logo on the front.

The keyboard is just the reader/scanner.

There used to be a separate T2 chip inside some Macs which were newer than yours, but now its integrated into the M1 processor/SoC. Its not anything you can add to a computer which didn't come with it.

I went on the Apple site to see if they've added the 143W power adapter that comes with this iMac to the accessories section and they have not. I imagine it would eventually be added. I wouldn't mind having one.

It was shorthand but perhaps not appropriate? Trying to describe someone who buys a product because of the brand-name only. Someone who buys because of perceived social cachet and wants to make sure others know. Buy a hat and leave the shiny manufacturer sticker on. Buy a Ferrari and wear the jacket everywhere. The kind of person who lets you know, y’know ‘cause you totally asked, what kind of car they drive.

Philips has a very useful lightswitch product that has their unfortunate branding pasted across the front. It’s gross. I believe in maker’s marks but do you want every piece of furniture and fixture you own to serve as an advertisement for the company and for your own affluence?

That type of design has no class, and that type of purchasing/peacocking attitude is difficult to describe any other way. It’s for losers in my opinion.

Doesn't sound silly at all, although I'm starting to not mind it so much - my reaction isn't nearly as strong now as it was when I first saw it. I'm typing this on my 2015 MBP and there's no branding at all in front of me. No logo. No 'MacBook Pro' like the later models. It never bugged me. Perhaps I'll get used to not seeing a logo on the iMac too.

Horrible analogy. It would be like Ferrari removing the logo from the bonnet. It just doesn't look right. I've seen people do that even with Ford trucks (remove the Ford logo from the grill) - looks strange and incomplete imo. Has NOTHING to do with wanting others to know what I have. It's not like you're going to be taking the iMac on the go - it's just sitting on your desk, so unless you do walking tours of your house, then I don't know what you're on about

I think many manufacturers over-badge their cars. They often looked slapped on, and sometimes basically are. Badges for engine features and trim level and fuel type and so on.

A logo on the hood or grill, and yeah even on the back, is not too much on such a large object. There are better and worse ways to integrate them. Some of the Ford logos have gotten unreasonably large; the Raptor grill is too much for me.

I’ve had a 27-inch iMac for six years, I’m confident it would look better without the front-facing logo. The same way the Philips light switches would look better without theirs. The logo on the back of the iMacs is huge, and is more than enough branding for anyone’s taste.

That's fine, and I don't think you're a "loser" for thinking that way. I'd rather they have kept the small logo on the front and left the back plain.

I've seen the silver version in a few unboxings and it's not nearly as bad as I'd expected. The blue one looks alright too. I think a lot of my dislike for these iMacs comes down to the wallpaper used in most of the promotional material. They actually look somewhat OK with different wallpaper.
