Users should wait for 10.6.2 updates that should be released soon, the update has been reportedly targeting graphics and video related issues across the system. The new imac may not have a good driver set-up in 10.6.1 which apple could in 10.6.2 or later via a EFI update. I remember when the last set of imacs came out there were some video issues that apple corrected in short order.

This is a good point you are making. 10.6.2 could likely address these bug fixes, among others, although I have heard nothing related to Flash media playback issues being addressed. We will just have to see.

I hope the problem can be fixed. That would really be a huge disappointment for someone that is getting their first Mac.

[Update] Can Adobe send their programmers to training so they can write better Mac apps?

I am sure this has nothing to do with the new iMacs, it has to do with Adobe not doing its job properly. Adobe has been a CRAPPY Mac developer for years now, concentrating efforts only where it thinks it's gonna give them some bottomline (aka traditional photo editing segments). They should remember WHO gave them the opportunity to exist in the first place, with the advent of the desktop publishing revolution on Macs.

As for the rest of their products, Flash is just at the bottom of the barrel, along with the ridiculous Flash-powered Adobe Media Player; Apple is ABSOLUTELY GENIUS in denying Flash on the iPhone.

All in all, a boycott is all this stupid company deserves; I have done my part in installing Click2Flash and living absolutely happy with a crapware/ad-free Mac and browsers. The worst is: even Silverlight manages to be better.

ADOBE IS DEAD. AND SO IS MS.

Flash=I turn down the heating!

All of my macs go nuts when flash plugin is working, especially my macbook air. I avoid sites with flash overload!

From what I can tell, it's actually the latest Flash Player update that is causing the performance issue. Try visiting a Flash site and either view the site or Flash video fullscreen. All performance issues go away. That has been my experience on both my Mac Pro (early 2008) and MacBook Pro (mid 2009).

I ran across this issue working on a recent project (I'm a Flash Developer amongst other things).

well im just glad that the issues are getting more attention. Im still considering getting the 27 i7 within the next month or two (first mac) and some of the issues are somewhat disappointing.

Hopefully apple will resolve them so my first Mac experience will be smooth and uneventful.

also, i hope someone figures out a way to use my ps3 on the beautiful display!

Did not see anything in the video.

Well, after viewing the pointless video I couldn't see anything wrong.

How can you not see anything wrong with those videos? The video playback is very sluggish, it slows down all the time! Maybe your own flash is broken as well so you just don't notice it anymore?
There are definitely some major problems with flash in that video, but this is not something that happens on all Snow Leopard systems. Flash works without problems on my early 08 mbp with Snow Leopard installed.

What I saw was the way that "band" encoded their video. Using t-mpeg. That's a bad start to begin with. A windows app. They were encoding it on Windows. Who knows what version. Then they uploaded it to YouTube in who knows what format. It may be a problem in some cases but in this case I think it's a user problem.

Hey! Any time flakey, fickle Flash on OSX gets media exposure is OK by me.

Maybe a Jr. Assistant to the Executive Assistant in Apple's R&D might look into it.

You can't see a problem with the video arn embedded in this article.

=

You have no rhythm.

It happens on my mac, its just adobe and flash. Nothing to do with apple can do about flash.

Running Safari in 32-bit mode seems to improve things though. I think thats what everyone should do. Its not only on the new iMacs, this happens on all macs running snow leopard

Strange. Flash is totally utterly awful under SL on ALL Macs.

If I can run flash well on a 2002 Power Mac, there is no excuse it on why can't run on a new iMac. There's probably a simple way to deal with the problem, like reinstalling software and OS, etc.

Flash is bad enough under OS X. It's just plain worse under Snow Leopard if you're using Safari. Silverlight is godlike compared to Flash on OS X. That's depressing.

I don't see a reason to blame Apple for this one though.

Aside from my MBP's fans running at like 300,000,000 RPM, Flash plays just fine. :D

Seriously, though, something should be done about it. Flash is the bane of the internet, and Adobesoft doesn't seem to be too in a hurry to fix it because they're far too busy churning out bloatware.

How is it that Apple fails to catch these things in testing? They do test, don't they?

The high gloss screens on the entire lineup suck, big time. They absolutely need a non-glare screen as standard equipment. Ditto for the laptops.

Hello! Apple! Please wake up.

Turn up your audio. The audio gets extremely choppy in the video (of the Flash video) and it seems like the video skips at points too.

Apple does an extremely good job of catching problems in testing, especially compared to their competitors. HP and others just get to enjoy the fact that there aren't forums of HP users nitpicking over the tiniest of news stories. Something is always going to slip through, though. If that surprises you, you've seriously underestimated the complexity of software as large as an operating system, especially when you're mixing with third-party plugins, hardware, and firmware.
