SL is a dog...sure wish they'd issue 10.6.2 soon...and hope it works!

SL = worst Apple OS update ever.

I just ordered a new iMac i7 quad core, ships in November. What is flash used for besides youtube? I probably use flash now but unaware when that occurs.

Install Firefox and then the Flashblock add-on. Enable it and see just how prevalent Flash is. There are many web sites you simply can not navigate, much less actually use, without Flash. The buttons and everything are Flash implementations on many of them, not just the grotesquely over-produced Flash videos & such.

Turn up your audio. The audio gets extremely choppy in the video (of the Flash video) and it seems like the video skips at points too.

Apple does an extremely good job of catching problems in testing, especially compared to their competitors. HP and others just get to enjoy the fact that there aren't forums of HP users nitpicking over the tiniest of news stories. Something is always going to slip through, though. If that surprises you, you've seriously underestimated the complexity of software as large as an operating system, especially when you're mixing with third-party plugins, hardware, and firmware.

This is one of the basics which ought to get people fired.

No idea why some of you are confidently proclaiming this to be a SL issue. I'm running SL at work on a 2-year old Mac Pro and Flash runs flawlessly on it. Sounds to me like an isolated thing that should be reasonably easy to address.

I think the problem is with Flash

I've been having Flash problems on my aluminum unibody MacBook (late 2008) long before I upgraded to Snow Leopard. The fans go crazy when watching Flash and sometimes I get message screen indicating there is problem with Flash plug-in. I never had this problem when I first got machine last year so somewhere along the line either a OS or Flash update has caused this problem. I think what people are missing in that video is the FLash in activity monitor is going crazy. On mine it is taking up a lot of processor usage. Never used to have this problem before. It's hard to see but I'm sure that's what they were trying to emphasize in the video.

The solution is NOT to play your .flv files in Safari or FireFox, but download everything to disk and play it locally, using VLC player. This eliminates the problem completely.

VLC for the win.

iMac 27" 'Revision A' FTL.

Issues like this are just making me less and less eager to buy a Mac. People talking about their Mac's breaking down all the time, then everyone saying their Mac's can't even play Flash, that's kind of sad. Worse is the fan boy's saying Flash is crap because their Mac's can't play it.. Noo, I think it's just the Mac's that are crap.

I'm on a PC, and over the years using a PC I've never had an issue with Flash, ever.

Stop spreading FUD...ABSOLUTELY ZERO ISSUES here.

I completely agree. Snow Leopard on a 2008 iMac here, with nothing to complain about. I use many different programs, plugins, virtual machines, etc and have no issues.

Heck, SL on a 2005 iMac and ZERO issues. If anything it was FASTER after the update (especially multitasking in the finder). Certainly no problems playing flash. Whatever the issues are, they aren't SL alone.

Boy, you have absolutely no idea how happy the more-than-10-switchers I've advised are...they tell me they are NEVER returning to a PC.

Rule 1: Flash has ALWAYS been crap on Macs because of Adobe's incompetence;

Rule 2: Those who have a problem, complain...the million others that are completely satisfied with their Macs don't need to do that.

I don't get it... Engadget is just a blog. If we're going to report on blogs, why not report on our very own user forums?

Don't be silly, that's not how the blogosphere works. A Post has to bounce around from one blog to another before it becomes a Story. New Journalism and all, donchaknow?

Otherwise we'd have absolute nonsense stories like that "iPhone discoloration" junk. Oh, wait...

works great on my early 2008 iMac.

Says the flash developer in disguise... :D

No offense intended but how the *$&*%# is it Apples problem when a 3rd party developers Application doesn't work right?! I'm far from a koolaid drinking Apple fan boy and often get beat on when I call Apple out from some of the crap they pull... BUT that being said... if someone could fill in the rest of this sentence with a valid reason I'd love to see it...

Apple needs to address the suckyness of flash on the iMac because _________ ? Try to keep the answer under 20 words if possible... ;)

OK, here is mine:

Apple needs to address the suckyness of flash on the iMac because WE WOULD ALL BE HAPPIER IF ADOBE WERE BOUGHT BY APPLE AND FLASH DISAPPEARED.

Not really...

What does it say when VLC an open source project can play back flash video with greater ease and reliability than the player that was written by THE INVENTOR OF THE TECHNOLOGY.

VLC FTW
Adobe FTL

Seems more accurate to me...

But of course

This is FLASH, which treats Macs like a low class 3rd citizen.... what else is new.
