Like others have mentioned, I'm also hoping to see an updated Cinema Display product line that goes up to 4k resolution.

I'm going to hazard a guess and say the new Mac Pro will come with updated keyboard and mouse, I really cant see Apple selling the current silver/white keyboard with the MP.

This little Mighty Mac will sit nicely on top of a rack full of peripherals.

Are the video cards able to be swapped out? They don't appear to be PCIe cards. Having non-upgradable video cards would be a deal breaker for many who want the latest and most power GPUs for realtime FX.

A fullsize grown up keyboard for adults with bluetooth would be good :D

I don't understand the rationale behind NOT offering a full size wireless keyboard.

I think it's more Apple form-over-function silliness.

I completely agree. It's like they've been trying to outdo themselves ever since the original iMac came out :D

They should introduce a modular keyboard where each key is a separate unit.

You only buy the keys you want, and connect them all via Thunderbolt.

It's the way of the future.

Exactly the response I expected, you've refused to quote someone saying that and when you get called on it, you're too much in a huff to give a quote. Of course if you could actually prove your point, you would. Since you can't, you have no other option but theatrics.

Yep, as I've been saying all along, virtually all pro audio was done with external boxes on the previous MP, and the same will be true with the next MP.

I thought I'd elaborate because you've just come back with tedious conditions to any previous reply...

1) If you look at the photo of the Mac Pro next to a 2013 "They" and "You" (deny that) are referring to, it shows a current Mac Pro (which by default has 1 optical bay occupied by a DVD/RW and 1 of 4 drive bays occupied by a hard drive) and the 2013 Mac Pro shows 1 external Optical Drive, 1 external Bluray and 3 separate external hard drives!

2) It's entirely possible for anyone using Pro Tools 9 or above to run it without any recording hardware AT ALL. Previous versions required hardware and Avid/Digidesign hardware at that, but unlike the LE version (see the Mbox 2 in my sig), Pro Tools 9 and above will run off internal audio (or third party interfaces) and the HD version runs off an internal PCIe expansion card and external recording interface. You can't do much in the way of recording with internal audio and no one would anyway but you could certainly edit existing recordings with any current Mac with only the addition of a second drive for recording to (which doesn't validate your point, see point 1 above). Apple's ridiculous trend of offering no secondary internal drive in their laptops and removing firewire makes the prospect of running ANY multitrack recording software on their laptops specifically a bit remote when you can't even plug in a firewire drive to record to because USB (ANY USB, even 3 has CPU overhead and isn't full duplex like Firewire/SATA) isn't an option and the Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter won't power a firewire drive. A desktop like the iMac or Mac Pro can use a power supply with a Firewire drive to avoid this issue.

3) desperately demanding I quote someone specifically disagreeing with you doesn't change undeniable facts about both the photo even you've referred to and the hardware requirements of Pro Tools (or any other DAW for that matter). It's undeniable that no one records EXTERNAL sources using internal audio but there's a multitude of artists making electronic music with purely software-based instruments who can get away with internal audio, a recording drive (internal or otherwise) and monitors/headphones. Deny that!

Apple take my money already

Dear Apple,

Take my money already. I'm really looking forward to the new MacPro!

Sincerely,
Your long-time customer

You lost the argument with that phrase.

The point of an expandable tower is that it is expandable. The "by default" limit doesn't apply.

If your "never wrong" ego convinces you of that, there's no point in debating it with you. You'll just keep changing what you claim to be referring to in the first instance so it fits any response you get. Call it moving the goal posts, cherry picking... It doesn't matter, you're not even arguing, you're stonewalling anything but your own opinion (which keeps subtly changing to suit).

It's a point that is not worth making though. a) What 100GbE adapters can you buy that have a Mac driver? b) The adapters I have found costs $10k per port, and that's on a 12 port $120k adapter. Clearly something that is aimed squarely at the HPC and large data center market.

Nevermind that there isn't much market for Thunderbolt network switches.

I know the new MP will have some crazy toys, but I am hoping it's faster.

I just used Geekbench3 to get my score, then compared with the new MP tested and I'm not that impressed.. am I missing something?

Yes, you are comparing an 8 core machine(mid level or entry level?) with a 12 core machine(top level), sort of apple vs orange. The top of the line 2013 MP will come with a 12 core cpu, if you want to compare apple with apple you need some updated benchmark of the new 12 core machine.

He has a 2.66 12 core from ~3.5 years ago. Wasn't top level then.

He is also comparing a 32 bit result from the 8 core 2013 model with the 64 bit result for his 12 core, again apple ws orange..

2 boxes (at $650 a pop) for my hard drives. I have 6 hard drives in my mac pro.

I'm not talking about you moving your existing drives to a new enclosure- there's obviously going to be extra boxes for people who want/need to hang onto existing HDs or PCIe peripherals.

But if a new user is putting together a system, they can get a RAID with as much storage as you've got in one box.

Here's a slightly more sane image to counter the previous one. All the same gear, but doesn't look like the systems are owned by 2 completely different people. This assumes the user still needs 2 DVD/Blu-ray burners and has legacy PCIe cards they need to port over.

Wow. $2100 for that Lacie on their website.

Another ~$1k for the Magma

Say a couple hundred for the Blu-Ray burners.

$3500 + Mac Pro cost

I would hope no one who goes to the trouble to buy all that stuff would settle for a cheap power strip.
